Be warned. I’m super simple. The only thing that’s essential to my rig is an ND filter and extra battery. I also have a Tilta cage with handle strap on my FX30 just for the handle alone. I have a gimbal but I don’t use it. Too heavy and cumbersome. Aside from that I like to pair the camera with a 15mm Sony and/or sigma 18-50mm. Super basic. You really don’t need much with this camera IMO. If you are shooting professional weddings or short films I would suggest the gimbal though.

Nice. I think this is your best work yet! Doesn't it suck that we have to think about what others think so much that we might not use the best possible gear out in the field? I'm going to force myself to start taking my gimbal or whatever I need (camera bag, fanny pack, etc.) out so I can get over that so I can just make cool videos. I do agree that the tripods and selfie sticks do sometimes introduce more shake though. I lOVED the slow-mo b-roll with music in the middle of the vlog. I like the black pro mist for certain scenes like the b-roll but not so much for the entire vlog which you alluded to so I'm with you on that. I think people are just "haters" when it comes to people vlogging. Keep doing what you're doing. I always look forward to watching your content.
I appreciate it, man. It is sad that at times we make concessions because of fear of what people think. I've gotten much better about it TBH, and some days I really don't care what people think. Where the bulky gear becomes a problem is shooting in private places like a store or in indoor malls and such. For some reason, security freaks out when they see it and I'm always telling them that the phones that people are filming on are more powerful than what I have. I mean, I get it, but it's annoying.

I took it out to the park and people were like, cool...are you vlogging? They weren't being sarcastic either. I think it also can have the opposite effect. If you look PRO, they treat you like a PRO so as long as there's no permit required it could be an advantage.
Do you typically rock prime lenses for your vlogs? I tend to find them too limiting but maybe I should give it a try since my two zoom lenses arent the best haha.

Thank you! I'm using the K&F 1-5 stop ND filter with a mist 1/4 built in. If you do a google search of that you will see it pop up. The rest is color grading :)

Nice! It’s really a professional level camera that happens to be a great vlogging camera. I’m pretty sure it’s overkill for how I’m using it :p If you’re asking about vlogging lenses I would go for either the Sony 11mm F1.8 or even the Sony 15mm F1.4. The 15mm might be a little too zoomed in to the face for some but I don’t it’s more versatile over all but the 11mm is so wide that it’s perfect for vlogging. Hope this helps. If budget is an issue I can recommend a couple more Lenses that are great but these are the two best lenses I feel

Beautiful my friend! You nailed the title with cinematic vlog! Last of Us was one of my favorite games of all time!!!! The series was phenomenal also. Did you use flexible ISO in this or Cine EI? I'm doing a wedding in WV next week and I'm a little worried about using Cine EI just because I don't know how the lighting will be.

Flex iso is way more forgiving and if I had to shoot a gig I might go with flex iso? I actually don't know TBH. It apparently isn't as clean as dual base. I'm pretty confident with Cine EI though. I've used it in pretty low light and it seems to do fine. It's grainy before the color correction but once that's applied everything seems clean. 120 FPS is trash though. I would stick with 60 FPS for slow mo if you could. Or you know what? Get another FX30 and shoot using both cine EI and flex lol. All the best on the wedding gig sir :)

I'm honestly testing out right now running my exposure Auto between 800 and 6400 and seeing how that looks. Have you ever tried the auto exposure?
@@jakenotfromstatefarm Good call! I find the base iso of 6400 pretty decent for low light when paired with an f1.4 lens. Never tried auto exposure before. I like to have full control. Let me know how you find it though. To be honest I've never used auto anything except autofocus. This is how much of a noob i am. I never even knew any of that was an option. I just learned to manually do everything and I thought that was the only choice haha. It worked out in the end because I think it made me more capable :P
@@noisackda2564 I'm a total noob! This is my first camera 😂 you're an expert status compared to me I'm sure. I do understand the principles of filming just because of all the drones. But depending on going in and out of shadows during the ceremony on a gimbal I'm thinking I'm just going to set the exposure valve to 1.3 and that the camera use the iso values 800-6400 maybe (400-6400) to maintain constant+1.3 exposure. That sounds good in my head anyways but I've never tried it I got to test it out because next week is the wedding. That's just something I don't want to mess up you only get one chance.

what frame rate and shutter speed? just got my fx30 and my vids look look kinda choppy when im moving around too fast trying to vlog at 24p 1/48, thanks
Hey, congrats and welcome to the FX30 family. I don't stick to the doubling shutter speed to frame rate rule and I don't recommend it for anyone else. I would say adjust your shutter speed to anywhere around 60-200 depending on how bright it is outside. Also, invest in an ND filter to control exposure.
@@hervains2869 Hahahaha! I get ya man. Everyone is just repeating the same rules, but the camera is a tool. Use it in a way that you feel yields the best result for you. I can't tell you how many times people have told me that I'm not a movie so why do I color-correct like I'm in a movie. Now everyone is color-correcting like they are in a movie haha. They are also on my case for letterboxing my footage. At the end of the day, I do it because I like it. It's whatever works for you. I actually stopped watching big channels because it sounds like a huge echo chamber.

Ya I pretty much only use primes and rely on clear image zoom for versatility.
