I had to sell my Eurorack Modular Synth...Life comes at you fast and hard, and sometimes you have to make a tough call. I'm finding myself at a spot in life where I don't want to do a lot of things, one of which is selling my modular, but here we are......stuck between a rock and a hard place...hopefully things won't stay like this for long....thanks for watching
Edit: I’m also aware that on many levels this is very much a first world problem. The things going on in my life make this feel significant, but I’m aware that others are struggling as well and in many cases much worse. This is just my experience.

Here is an article about eurorack to help people find this video.
    What is Eurorack Modular Synthesis?
Eurorack modular synthesizers are modular synthesizer systems built to the Eurorack standard, allowing for the interchangeability of modules from various manufacturers. Each module serves a specific function, such as generating sound (oscillators), shaping sound (filters and envelopes), or manipulating sound (effects and sequencers). The real magic of Eurorack lies in the flexibility and customization it offers. With a vast array of modules available, users can build unique setups tailored to their preferences and creative visions.
    Why Choose Eurorack?
The allure of Eurorack modular synthesizers lies in their unparalleled flexibility and sonic potential. Unlike traditional synthesizers with fixed signal paths, Eurorack systems empower users to design their own signal flow, allowing for infinite sonic experimentation. Whether you're crafting lush ambient textures, pounding techno rhythms, or otherworldly soundscapes, Eurorack provides the tools to bring your sonic visions to life.

    Building Your Modular System
Building a Eurorack system is akin to assembling a puzzle, with each module serving as a unique piece that contributes to the overall sonic tapestry. Beginners may opt for pre-configured starter systems to ease into modular synthesis, while more experienced users may prefer hand-selecting modules to tailor their setup precisely.
    Key Modules to Consider:
Oscillators: These generate the fundamental sound waveforms and are the building blocks of your sounds.
Filters: Essential for sculpting the timbre and character of your sound by removing or emphasizing specific frequencies.
Envelopes: Shape the amplitude and dynamics of your sounds over time, crucial for creating evolving textures and rhythmic patterns.
Effects: From delays and reverbs to distortion and modulation, effects modules add depth, movement, and character to your sounds.
Sequencers: Drive the rhythmic and melodic elements of your compositions, allowing for precise control and automation.
Keywords: Building a Eurorack system, modular synthesis setup, starter systems, hand-selecting modules, oscillators, filters, envelopes, effects modules, sequencers, sound manipulation.
    Tips for Eurorack Beginners
For newcomers to Eurorack modular synthesis, diving in can feel daunting. However, with the right approach, the learning curve can be rewarding and enjoyable.
Start Small: Begin with a few essential modules to grasp the fundamentals of modular synthesis before expanding your setup.
Experiment Freely: Embrace experimentation and exploration, as there are no rules in Eurorack. Trust your ears and follow your intuition.
Learn Modular Patching: Understand the basics of patching cables to connect modules and create unique signal paths. Experimentation is key to discovering new sounds.
Seek Community and Resources: Join online forums, attend workshops, and watch tutorials to learn from the vast Eurorack community and expand your knowledge.
Keywords: Eurorack beginners, learning curve, essential modules, experimentation, modular patching, cable connections, online forums, workshops, tutorials, community resources.
    The Future of Eurorack
As technology advances and the Eurorack community continues to grow, the future of modular synthesis looks promising. Manufacturers are constantly innovating, releasing new modules that push the boundaries of sound design and performance. With the rise of digital modules and integration with computer software, Eurorack systems offer even greater versatility and sonic potential.

The outpouring of support that you guys have shown me from this video is really special and humbling. Thank you all so much! You have no idea how hard I was going through some emotions when I made this video, more so around my personal life, and less so about the gear...maybe most of you could sense it wasn't entirely about the gear... And your support really got me through some very difficult days. Hearing about your stories really helped, so thank you all again so much.

Happy to sub I'm trying to help folks who are doing this get up and running cause everyone's up to something. Cheers!

I sold 10k of euro … best thing I ever did … was just feeding an addiction just to hear repetitive bleeps and bloops … fkn awful bought old 80s samplers instead so much for freedom and enjoyment

      @DomiFotaro  7 месяцев назад +1

Yeah I def think that my system was to big beyond everything else happening, I found my better patches were with more limitations. I can agree it becomes an addiction.

Haha I was just thinking the same thing. I sold about $30k worth of eurorack gear this past summer. It was a huge waste of time and productivity for me. I replaced it with a prophet-5, ob-6, pro-3, 3rd wave, Juno-x, moog one, among other things. Then I started making music again

Being forced to sell gear you really like and use is a pain. Had to sell some gear when I was still studying and it really pains me to think about the gear that since has gone up in price so much that I will probably just never replace it... on the other hand... It was a luxury to be able to just sell some gear to stay afloat and soften the rough patch... so keep it up.... sub.

    • @DomiFotaro
      @DomiFotaro  7 месяцев назад

Thank you so much, yeah that feeling of not having control and then the resulting loss just makes things harder. Especially when the bigger situation you’re in already involves so much loss. But it’s true that even being able to have this kind of gear makes us very fortunate. Thank you for your thoughtful comment, I appreciate it🖤🙏

relatable. I consider selling all modules from time to time, and that would've been very reasonable in the context of my life, but every now and then it just clicks, and I discover a new angle or technique, and that makes me happy so I keep holding on to it.

Having a modular re-think myself. Getting rid of all the modules I just don't get on with and maybe boight because I was WOWED with demos. Beads was first out. Great module? In the right hands. Didn't work for me at all. Pissing in the wind with that one. Also getting rid of modules that have menus, bottom combos, limitations in terms of control. Just taking a BIG step back and keeping my feet on the ground. Have a Kilpatrick Phenol as well. Love it, but thinking it will have to go in the name of reduction. Keeping things to my Mantis case, removing the Phenol and adding a Happy Ending in my half empty rack with more focus on what I'm doing. Amen. Good luck and well wishes with your own journey.

It's cool that you're so open about you're love for eurorack but that you are struggeling how to sell them. I actually did a collab recently where I talk about my first synth over at @mwmusic29 channel. Thank you so much for the sub! And enjoy the modularity journey friend! 🙏🙂

I know your pain mate, about a decade or so ago I had to sell all of my home studio and dj equipment, amazing mics, focusrite saffire pro 26 sound card, my monitors, pair of CDJ 1000s, Allen & Heath mixer and so much more. Other half and I had both lost jobs due to health problems and it was a hell of a rough patch. Won't lie it still hurts when I think back to the setup I had, but I also recognise it kept a roof over our heads and our health recovered and we've been slowly getting back on our feet. Have recently started making music again, simple setup of computer & ableton, but the desire to make music has been coming back. Hope you manage to get through your rough patch as best as possible, take care.

    It will come back around.
In the mean time, VCV Rack is a great substitute.
In 2011, I liquidated my studio to just travel essentials after doing an album. I repurchased key pieces in 2017, and have been strategically adding since. My eurorack started as matriarch, then Sound Studio, and now I watch channels like yours to learn which module would work for my creative needs.
Make a song about it 😅

It’s amazing how it adds up, death by 1000 cuts. The situation that caused me to sell is really the painful part and letting go of gear is a little bit of insult to injury. Ultimately letting this stuff go is for the best in this situation. Thank you for sharing, it does help! 🙏

( I don't know you ) I feel you, and yes, is hard to let go of things... but even when you feel that you are losing things... you, just need to adapt to what you have... you are not losing your music talent... like everything, tools... you get them you lose them, but your creativity is not... keep up the good work.
