    It's noteworthy that when the cable poles are removed so are the wood planks. The wood pieces are helpful. But you've proven that they're not necessary. Good vid.

    I think it's easier without the cables. No crowds, and most importantly you get to walk on the more rigid less-slippery surface.

      I agree. Without the cables and crowds makes for a nicer day.

    How are the carabiners around the cable supposed to stop you from sliding down? Are there points where the cables is bolted down in segments?

    • @theworldhiker1
      @theworldhiker1  Год назад +2

      Yes, there are points where the cables are connected so you would slide down until these points if you slid.

    With the cables down what equipment do you need? Just a harness and carabiners?

    • @theworldhiker1
      @theworldhiker1  9 месяцев назад +1

      Yes, We just used a harness and carabiners with a short leash.

    Can you buy the kind of harness at walmart? I will be there at June but i feel even if the cables are not up i can do it soley with my hands, using a harness just as a safety net. Does it make sense? If i havecwalking poles with me, can i just leave them on the foot of half dome while i am climbing?

    • @theworldhiker1
      @theworldhiker1  Год назад

      Yes you can leave your trekking poles at the bottom. I don't know if Walmart sells climbing harnesses. You may need to check a climbing store or online. Hope you can make it to Half Dome. Many people do it without a harness with the cables up.

    Do you have to have rock climbing experience to do this?

    • @theworldhiker1
      @theworldhiker1  7 месяцев назад +1

      We don't have rock climbing experience and felt fine. Depends on how you feel with heights though...

    • @JoeStranzl
      @JoeStranzl 3 месяца назад

      For 1/2 Dome, it's not traditional rock climbing. You have to be dedicated to the task & fit though. Some hikers turn around @ sub dome. But if you wanna get there - you will. Focus on how good it'll feel. Every time you'd see a pic of 1/2 Dome, you'd think of a certain day.
