    What other shows, movies, or other kinds of media would you like us to react to?

      There's an emotional D&D roleplay moment in the series The IT Crowd, S04 ep 1, Jen the Fredo.

    Community was the first to introduce me to D&D, since then been loving the hobby :D

      I was raised non-denominational Christian and was taught D&D was work of the devil.
      After my passing of the hypnosis I was under, I was too busy being a bad kid, thinking I was cool. D&D was for losers.
      As a man, Community showed me it can be fun and enlightening. I have yet to play, and I kind of doubt I'll get around to it, because I'm busy....but, it would surely be fun and pleasant.

    When you say you're never going to watch another episode of Community, I think you're dead wrong, since Community is notable for having TWO D&D centric episodes.
    The next one is really interesting, as it follows the concept of game as therapy already used in the first episode, but this time as a way to mend the relationship between a father and his estranged son. The episode title is Advanced Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (S05 ep10).

    The big difference between the two here is that Buffy was clearly just making fun of D&D whereas Community was using the game as a narrative tool to tell a story (and bending the rules a bit for entertainment purposes). This episode is considered one of the best episodes in the entire show and is a massive fan favourite. Pitty its not available anymore because some people are stupid and don't understand what a joke is.

    I've never played D&D, but I don't know if I could handle dying in it honestly.

    • @DragonCulture
      @DragonCulture  Год назад +2

      It's a complex thing. And characters become part of the journey of your life. When they die, a creation of yours - something you've invested time, effort and care - dies with it.
      Some folks, (myself included), often talk to the DM about "if my character dies, this is how I would want the death to be" - so that at least there's some capstone or meaning to the investment into the character - not the same as "please kill me off" - rather "if I die, I want it my character to experience the following"..
      This allows the DM some leeway in narratively describing the character's death, but also creating some meaning.
      Other folks will want there to be some relationship between their former character and their next. Perhaps an heirloom, familial relationship or other. I'm not a huge fan of this myself, as it never gives closure to what is, in my mind, a meaningful event - the loss of your creation. But ultimately whatever works at your table!

    As someone who never played D&D and loved community it seemed to me episode was written by someone who played D&D. From your critique it seems writer made some decisions not true to game for comedic effect and to advance the plot.
