Lucy, thanks for another nice video. People not washing their hands before the buffet / communal dining? That's insane! Another reason that cruise ships are like "petri dishes", huh? (and another reason I prefer sailing my own boat) As for new video ideas ---- maybe a vlog around your town ---- or out to the pub with friends ---- or out exploring someplace in the UK that you might not think interesting, but many of your viewers would never even know about? Any way, Fair Winds and stay warm!

I agree with washing, but many folks don't know that the sanitizer does not affect viruses (Noro, covid etc.) It does tend to dry out hands, so some lotion after eating is a good idea for skin comfort.

Hi Lucy! I Love watching your videos. I look forward to everyone. You mentioned getting a new plate or cup every time, but I think you needed to spend a little more time on the drink station. I've seen too many people get a drink, down it quickly and refill the same glass! A germ spreader! Another one at the Drink station is the people who fill their sports bottles up at them! One they should not be doing it! But if they are going to do it anyway, at least grab a clean cup, fill it, then pour the cup into your sports bottle! The funny thing is when you say something to the "Sports bottle offender" they always say "It's ok I cleaned it in my room." Oh! You have a Dishwasher or dish soap in your room! LOL!

Thanks Lucy! I take hand sanitizer and use it after I’ve gotten my food from the buffet as there are a lot of people who’ve touched the tongs before me.

I cruise on Carnival every month or two so I have seen lots of buffet activity. One of the most piggy/possible food waste scenarios is that of the passenger who arrives at the table with a guy’s burger and fries. drops it off and continues to the buffet to load up a plate!

You unfortunately left out some of the worst behaviors. On my last cruise there was a woman at the buffet who got her hand dirty with some food. She sucked her whole index finger to "clean" it and then continued crabbing stuff from the buffet with that hand.
Not to mention the many, many people who load their plates and start stuffing food in their mouths with their hands while still continuing to pick up other food at the buffet.
It made me worry and I couldn't believe people have not learned anything about basic hygiene, even during the pandemic. I wish cruise companies would educate their guests about these things.

Cruise line shouldn’t have to tell people to wash their hands. That should just be common sense, but you know common sense isn’t common.
I’d like to go on a future cruise, but after watching, so many cruise videos, makes me think twice about eating in the buffet. If I go on a cruise, I probably won’t hit the buffet and just stick to the MDR.

One time i shouted to a passenger. She put her teaspoon in a icecream container, licked it and went with the same spoon to the next container. It was disgusting, even it was before covid. She did not understand why i was not happy about her behaviour.

If you're on a Cunard Vista class ship, far too often the only place you'll find a seat to eat at the buffet is in the pool area. The seating on those two ships is disgusting. Every ship I've sailed on, the crew is smart enough to figure out where plates and cups belongs. I haven't sailed on Royal or Virgin yet so maybe I haven't seen the bottom of the barrel yet.

Two things that I have seen that never should happen is picking any food up with your hands and also eating well in the buffet line.

    2. Bring Ziplock bags. 😺
    3. Maybe they washed their hands in their cabin before heading to the buffet and though that was good.
    5. The cheap food is usually at the start with them hoping you'll fill your plate before getting to the good stuff.
    7. Even worse when someone uses their own fork or spoon when there's no tongs.

Lucy, would be great to have a video about menu, what dishes are popular, etc. Just curious, as a cook.

Thanks for the tip about the tongs! I never really thought about not doing that anywhere, on a ship or a restaurant here, although I am not a huge buffet person. I am allergic to wheat, however, so I can see how mixing the tongs could really mess with the diet and now I will definitely be thinking about all the other allergies and medical issues that could ruin someone’s cruise by making an innocent mistake. Thanks again and love your videos!

Add: Do not lick your hand if you get some food on it, and then grab a serving tool. Do not return the serving tool to the food station if you drop it on the floor. I've observed both.

@7:43 That shot of the interior cabins facing each other did my head in. It looks like being in a pod in The Matrix.
I think I'd rather a windowless cabin, than look at other balcones. :(

I've seen multiple thong bikinis, 1 forceful wet sneeze, and multiple bare hands in the food all at the buffet. 🤢🤮

Unfortunately many people are just not clean.
They say you travel how you live. If you live in a clean, orderly home you will travel in same way, and opposite is true.
Sadly most seem to be the latter.

From someone who has a strange allergy to what seems a normal safe food please don’t cross contaminated things. A bit of coleslaw in the lettuce can make me ill!

I was on a 14 night Carnival cruise, wonderful older crowed the first week. Then they got bored and irritable as the best ports were behind us, and not used to the spaced out entertainment. Verbal fighting and profanity near the pool, line cutting and pushing in the buffet, and intentional cold/noro spreading. We saw a woman sneeze into her hands, and wipe them off on the jello in the buffet! A crew member saw this, and just looked at us, shaking his head laughing.

I do agree scouting out the buffet before taking a plate is a great idea. Thats what I did on my carnival cruise. However, I did not know that certain stations in the buffet changes during the day.
Curious question: Concerning getting a new cup for drinks. While I do agree with that, how does that apply to bringing your own bottle to the drink machines? I brought my own bottle everytime. No one seem to care. It doesn't seem right. Not fair to the people that doesn't have their own bottle. Almost like a double standard. Also most cruise lines encourage the purchase of their branded water bottles. Something to think about.

Hi Lucy. Love your videos!! You seem so real and natural! But I must admit I’m sometimes one of those people that skips the hand washing station in the buffet. My favorites cabin location is about 2 decks below the pool area and buffet. So I basically have just fully showered, washed my hands and face etc, brushed my teeth and then immediately climb 2 sets of stairs to the buffet. It seems silly to have to wash my hands again for show. But I’m often a good boy and do it anyway, haha. Just not always! 😊

I am to the point where I simply avoid the buffet 90% of the time. For example on my last cruise on Symphony of the Seas (few weeks ago), I went straight up to El Loco Fresh and nobody was up there yet.
For breakfast if available I prefer Johnny Rockets. Usually a forgotten about option thats free. Or, grab something at the Solarium Bistro.
For lunches, will again prefer the Bistro, grab a comawack from Park Cafe, or some pizza down in Sorentos over Windjammer.
No hate to Windjammer, but just found the other options more to my liking on most RCL ships.

Love your comments about the chicken wings at 5:20. Also, infuriating is people picking 1 piece of cucumber then 2 pieces of beetroot then think about 1 piece of celery.

I’m so glad you talked on this subject. I’ve been on 15 cruises and have seen really crazy stuff walking through the buffet area.❤ I am one that eats to live and not live to eat. It’s shocking, like you said the amount of food people eat.

We do the buffet for breakfast and lunch, and sometimes a top up at evening meal , i seen using the wrong tongs mainly in the hotels we stay in on holiday, or people swapping the labels around on the foods if there are like two soups
