Well done on finishing the course! I lived in Moscow twenty five years ago, I recently set myself a goal of becoming fluent by the end of this year. As for visiting Russia, May is good as it's not too hot. July and August is baking hot! You'll have fun navigating the Metro, all the sings are in Cyrillic. Be careful using the metro on match days, some of the football supporters are savage. Avoid using it before and after game to avoid fans. Go to the Bolshoi to watch the opera, it's wonderful, it's not a black tie affair; that's only in the movies or exclusive gala events. Strolling around the Kremlin and Red Square is ace, both day and night. If you're into cars, you'll love the sight of Brabus S-classes racing through the streets, most are owned by corrupt politicians; they have a siren on the roof. Russians are friendly, the men are more forgiving about mispronunciations of their language, some women tutt and harrumph. Maybe that was a generation ago though, things can change. I too face the inconvenience of no direct flights, my preferred option is the UK to Istanbul then Moscow. Also, you used to be able to catch a shared ride on a minibus from the airport into the city, the driver and passengers will happily confirm if they're going near your hotel. There used to be a lovely tradition of getting on a minibus and then passing your money for the ticket to the passenger in front, your ticket abd and change would then make its way back to you.
Thank you so much for the tips! I really do appreciate it. Hopefully i will go someday soon. Its a dream of mine to go. Im sure you had a great time with your time spent in Russia. Thanks
You can speak Russian in other countries that are less difficult to travel to, such as Armenia or Kyrgyzstan. You can also find people to speak Russian with before traveling across the world through various language apps.
Congrats on finishing the Russian course! I think Duolingo is only helpful for learning the basic building blocks and vocabulary of a language up to an intermediate level. Getting to somewhat fully understanding and speaking the language requires doing just that: speaking and listening! It’s a great idea to have a visit to Russia and learn more about the way natives speak. Good luck
Thank you for letting us know how did it go!!! Ive been doing it and in super exited!!! Congratulations on your leadning journey 🎉 I hope you have a great time there and keep improving!!!
Hey. Even though i never was on your channel youtube put this video today on the top of the page. So maybe I was not the only one and you will get more followers from now on! :) i would be glad because you really seem like a nice guy! Congrats for finishing the course! I hope you will have a wonderful trip to Russia. People from the western world are amazed most of the time. Keep it up! 🙂
Wonderful, mate. I'm studying russian from Duolingo too and I gotta say, it's a pretty tough task. I'm currently at the begginig of Section 2 and enjoying quite a lot until now. Hope one day we meet in Russia! haha привет из Бразилии! 😊
English spoken movies with Dutch subtitles made me fluent in English by the age of 8. Dubbed Russian movies could skyrocket your progress! Kinda forces you to translate and have thought by key-words making them easy to remember, and bonus is that you now also only know the right way to say the word and not your own gibberish your brain can make up of it 😅 Good luck dude :)
Molodets! Best book to continue is 'Colloquial Russian' by Svetlana Fleming imho. Combine this with online courses with Russian teachers, one on one, and you'll be there sooner than you think. Keep in mind that understanding the Russian language and culture does not mean you should also support the regime, as I see happening to some admirers of Russia. There are good and bad people everywhere.
This guy is lying. The window behind him is cgi and he is reading from a script. He even seems like shivering. Pretty sure he is held at gunpoint by Duolingo. Edit: I am learning German. I broke my streak and is currently hiding from “the bird”. Edit2: Oh God, I hear owl noi….
Hi! As a native in russian , congrats. There are many words that we dont understand. especially on old russian(classic imperial), so you're doing well. And, if course, please, be safe during your trip to Russia. That's the country of closed regime, where your laws and rights dont cost anything. Your county can save you in most cases, but please be careful.
