Great kit Matt. Depending on the knife, I also use the CC4, or the Spyderco Ceramic File Slip (Teardrop shape), or the Spyderco 4" X 2" inch ceramic slip stone sharpener with the leather pouch. All of these are either Fine or Extra Fine & I use them for honing only. I've also found that a white rectangular mechanical pencil eraser cleans the metal from these ceramics while in the field. About once a week I clean these with a plastic scotch Brite pad & some Barkeepers Friend Cleaner to get the extra fine ceramics back to a thoroughly cleaned pristine white surface. For my kitchen & larger fixed blades, I sometimes use the Green Elephant sharpening rod to bring out the razors edge before I go camping. Keep up the great videos! They are very appreciated

Excellent video! I learned a lot about hoe to sharpen knives that I did not know before and about consolidating small items into kits according to their function. I will have to save this one on my phone so I can take it with me.

I rather like ceramic stones and have a couple medium-sized ones I got with a chip-carving set a long time ago. Eventually they get pretty discolored with metal residue, and I found that scouring powder like Chlorox with water and a toothbrush clean them up well. Many thanks.
Hey Matt! Thanks for sharing the techniques. Quick question. I know most people love scandal for the fixed blade knives. I always used one myself until I started using the knives I currently carry (Dan Ferguson/Jeff White). There was a bit of a learning curve to get used to the different grind, but now I love it. So the question is, why does everyone like to use the scandi grind? Honestly, I just used the scandi because it was what everyone said to use but never heard the reason why. Nice kit. One thing I would add especially if you are carrying an axe is a 6 inch chainsaw raker file. I prefer the Stihl ones as they are very high quality and reasonably priced if you get them from your local saw shop. Add a small leather square for a guard and you are good to go.

Could not help, nut notice that when you draw your blade away from you that shadow you mentioned returns as you reach the curve and tip of the blade. Maybe something to work on. Thanks for the advise of the repair kit. Would not have thought of the wax. Take care.
I notice that as well. I believe it was simply because I was focusing on staying in frame on the camera screen. Knife sharpening and honing is always awkward to film. Very observant of you to notice :) I know I usually hit it right because that belly of my knives always seems to be the sharpest part. Take care Richard.

Hi Stephen, This one was one from a Lansky boxed set. If you look at my Amazon link in the video description, you can see the one I have there is the same. I just added a wooden handle on the end to make it safer when holding. I hope that helps. Thank you for your time and interest!

I usually keep a pencil eraser with my diamond and ceramic stones to clean them. Helps them work better for longer IMHO.

It might possibly. I am guessing it wouldn't be as thick or long lasting. I am not sure how it would do for waterproofing. Interesting thought :)
