    Looks like it should work well. If you ever get in a time bind and need some ready made "oil cloth" type touch up recipe, the popular leather preservative known as Sno Seal is made from 65% bees wax and 35% mineral oil. You can look up the MSDS for snow seal and see the ingredients

    Nice! I like the recipe that you came up with. I actually found your video after searching for making bow string wax using bees 🐝 wax and pine resin. I made bow string wax using a ratio of 4 to 1. I used 2 Oz. of Bees 🐝 wax, and 1/2 Oz. of rendered pine resin. It came out okay. However, your recipe gives me the idea 💡 that next time I may add some olive oil or coconut oil to my recipe for bow string wax. Thank again! I Liked and Subscribed to you channel! 😊

    I follow your recipe to the ounce. I made my first batch about a year and a half ago and have re-made it quite often. Thank you so much for this! I use olive oil on all my carbon steel blades and this is the perfect compliment . There are so many uses for this stuff.

      I agree 100%. I have kept some from my very first batch and it is still just as good today as it was the day it was made. I have stuck with this recipe because it has served me well. I am glad it is also working well for you. Thank you for your time, interest and kind words Scott.

    Thanks for sharing this!!! This is something that I will absolutely be doing myself. I already have bee's wax that I use in my leather crafting, just have to some coconut oil, olive oil and lard or maybe get some deer talo from the next deer I harvest. A good friend made me some soap using deer talo. So it is nice to see that maybe there is more to just the meat and hide a person could use from a deer harvest. Again great video and enjoyed it. Made some of this awhile ago. There are so many different way to try. Mine subbed coconut oil and cocoa butter instead of olive oil and lard. Definitely smells good and works, but they were harder to find and more expensive. Next batch I’ll try the olive oil and lard recipe. I use mine on all my knives, axe, Silky saw, leather goods, pretty much anything I want to preserve and protect. Heck, it works great on my hands after I’ve beaten them up working outside.

    Just made my own Fixin Wax last night. I used 4 oz of bees wax, 4 oz of mineral oil (instead of lard), 2 teaspoons of organic coconut oil and a teaspoon of virgin olive oil. Turned out really good, a good consistency, not to hard and not to soft. Plan on making some more tonight. I need to get my oldest son to send me all of his Snus tins and I need to get me some other tins. Again thanks for sharing your video. Juddie - J & J TOA

    Lard will go rancid over time. Switch to rendered beef tallow or mutton tallow. The rest is good. My recipe is equal parts bee's wax, rendered beef tallow and Thompson Center's Bore butter in either pine or mint scent. This creates a good wax that can be used for most anything and is an all natural, non-toxic food grade product. Thanks!

      I use shea butter instead of the lard or beef tallow. still edible and smells better if you dont use another oil like pine or others for added scent. also will not go rancid like the lard as some have mentioned.

      The coconut and olive oils will fix (preserve) the lard so that it doesn't go rancid. They have microbial agents that choke out bacterial, which would normally cause the lard to go rancid. That's the reason that these oils are used in combination with the lard.

    Would coco butter make an acceptable replacement for coconut oil?

    • @blackhatbushcraft
      @blackhatbushcraft  6 лет назад

      I can't say for sure because I haven't tried that but I would think so. There are so many different recipes and twists on this product that you do have a lot of leeway with it. The good thing is if you make it and it is too soft, melt it and add more wax. If it is too hard, melt it and add oil. you really can't mess it up as long as you add ingredients that are safe for use on your skin.

      Thank you so much for asking Donny. Great question and the answer is yes indeed. I saved one small cake of this wax to keep it long term to see if it went rancid or expired but it is absolutely as good today as it was when I made it. I honestly didn't expect it to hold up as well as it has this long. The texture has been perfect and it has been used to treat leather, wood, metal and I have even used it for dry hands and chap stick. I will continue to use this one indefinitely. If you give it a try, let me know how it does for you. Take care.
