    Absolutely appreciate this tutorial - clear and to the point. Dealership quoted $450 for battery/labor on our 2018 Atlas SEL Premium and couldn’t justify paying that. Picked up an H6 (48) AGM battery from Costco, Schumacher OBD II Memory Saver from AutoZone and portable battery with 12V port and had zero issues. No warnings on dash and all settings remained the same after install - thank you!!

    $82 at the dealership to perform a battery calibration? There goes the savings from fuel savings of auto start-stop. Learned this from Louis Rossman channel. I wish the vehicle would have a procedure in the menus to perform the calibration at their house.

    This design is so lame. A battery has 2 and only 2 poles. Why does VW want to make the battery more complicated?
    I always disable my start-stop feature, so my 5 years old Atlas battery seems to still work fine. .

      Bought my silver 19 SE VR6 new. Always disabled that BS start/stop. I plan on keeping this car 10+ years so I don’t want all that extra wear on the starter. Original battery just gave out. Actually I replaced it today. Like all brands VW is forced to put in start/stop by the government. It’s a few extra steps to replace then my 84 Pontiac fiero 😂 but it’s easy to do, I just followed the video. I’m just thankful all the plastic clips didn’t break off.

    What kind of memory saver is that and where do I get it/how do I hook it up? Just replaced mine yesterday and got all the errors. Had to have it towed and cleared at the dealer because my steering locked up.

      So without a “memory saver” I can’t swap a battery in an atlas without it going haywire with errors on the dash?

    • @joshhicks9361
      @joshhicks9361 Год назад +1

      @@chadvice1140 I can’t speak for everyone but this is the experience I had. My battery died and I had to have it jumped numerous times and each time it would die, I would get an error code for faulty lights or something else electrical, then once it jumped, it would usually clear out. The last time it died before I replaced the battery, I jumped it and my steering locked up. Called the dealership and they said it would have to be hooked up to their system to clear the computer out. A pain. I will definitely be getting a memory saver so that it hopefully doesn’t happen again. Hope this helps

      I don’t know much, but on my 2019 VW Atlas, I needed to do a battery swap, and everywhere I looked it mentioned about the memory savor. I just went ahead and took out the bad battery and replaced with a new one, and when I went to turn on the car, about 5-7 lights came on. I freaked out, but when I literally drove the Atlas around the corner, all the lights disappeared. Hasn’t come on since. I don’t know if this helped any, but I figured I’d share my experience.

    • @jrockd_photo
      @jrockd_photo Год назад +2

      @@aaronmartinez5587 yeah , I literally just changed mine minutes ago and it did the same. It cleared up once I began to drive. When changing the battery on these type of cars you can’t go cheap! You have to match the dealership specs! You’ll need to go platinum or higher!

    Just did this. And it blew the big fuse. I think my mistake was not putting back the fuse first to the terminal, I started with the black wire on the side. That may have been a ground being connected to the fuse first without having the positive side on. 😭😭😭
