    If you just copypaste the original square and rotate it a bit, you can already fit 9 in. In now you add another square and do the same, you can now fit 25.

    This would be a great 3 part challenge. Kinda like the "do *insert challenge here*" then "now do it in only 3 moves" type of things. The first phase is to have 9 snakes. Second challenge is to then use the same two (additional) squares to divide 13 snakes. The final challenge is a whooping 17 snakes. All three are possible ;)

      @@drumbumifyer stop reading if you don't want the answer....... three equal sized squares, centres in the same place, rotate 1 by 30 degrees and one by 60 degrees.

    I *thought* I had this one by putting three identical squares skewed off each other by a unit diagonally, but that only deals with 7 snakes. So I did just as well as Josie did.

    This can be done by only adding ONE square - Josie was on the right track. Just add a square of the same size as the original, tilted 45 degrees. Four corners (of new square) outside the original pen, four corners of original square, and the middle.

    I've solved it* after 18 tries with a more elegant solution than Brians: a star of david out of two squares instead of two triangles. Eight points and the middle. Saved up a whole fence.

    I made a version that can hold 11 with two new fences overlapping. A version that can hold 9 with one new overlapping fence. Finally got the solution holding 9 with two inscribed, non-overlapping, new fences.

    I got a set up of two squares (plus the initial square) with tilting and overlapping that provides 19 different sections.
    The more I think about it, the more sections I keep adding... I'm going to stop now.

    You don't need 3 squares (the freebie and the 2 new ones). If you overlap 2 square of the same size at 45 degree angles to make an 8 pointed star, put one snake in each point and the 9th in the center.

    FWIW, It can be done with only two squares rather than three (as in the video) -- the "Rub el Hizb" or " khatim-sulayman" -- not sure as to the difference. Basically, make a Star of David with squares rather than triangles). Very common pattern found in Arabic artwork/architectural design.

    it can be done with only one extra fence, just put a same square fance over the other but rotated 45° you will have an 8 point star and a big comfy octagon in the middle for the king cobra

    Technically you only need one square fence. Just extend the first new square past so the corners pass the edge of the first square. If you need a visual look up, "octogram"

    Don't you just need 1 at 45 degrees if you let the corners poke out. Then you get an ocragram which's corners are isolated from the centre.

    Three identical squares rotated in increments of about 30 degrees give you 25 individual pens.

    I'd only buy one square fence from him, given I have one square fence already. I'd then overlap one square fence over the original one, on a diagonal, so that I form an 8 pointed star.

    Pretty sure you can achieve the same result with a single square the size of the first one, tilted on its side, 1 snake in the middle all the others in each corners of both squares

    trying to figure it out i found a way to contain 13 snakes with the same rules :D (then i counted the snakes and realized i only needed to separate 9, so 1 square would've been enough)

    Maybe I shouldn't watch these at 3AM, because rotation never even crossed my mind. I spent like a full 5 minutes rearranging overlapping squares and never getting more than 7 partitions out of it.

    Paused it at 2:44 and solved it (I believe) with MS Paint in around five tries. Watching the rest now to see if my solution is the intended one.

      Yep, same answer (SPOILER):
      Square in a diamond in a square. The only thing that bothered me about this solution was that the length of the sides in the middle "square" is the smallest side times the square root of two. So while it CAN be done with "any size square", it can't technically be done correctly with these equally sized matchsticks.

    Had to get my bearings pressed on my car today, normally it costs me $15. Bucks. BUT I asked if he got one of three tricks I would pay, and $50 for all three. While glass with cherry, x makes a square and 4 pennies across them 5 down. He never fingered one out. Fun fun fun!!!
