Now this outboard will get you in skinny water to fish in!
In this video I am showing my Yamaha 60hp Jet Outboard running that is paired with my G3 18CCJ forward console jet boat I use for fishing. Although I've had issues with this setup I am happy with it. It can get in some really shallow water! One thing I did not mention in the video is the speed. I get around 32 to 33 MPH with this setup and one person aboard. I have also caught some nice fish in this boat! Taking a jet boat in very skinny water is so much fun! I hope someday I can get another jet boat to play around in my local skinny water creek.

I know this video is a couple of years old, so I hope this finds you well. That being said, I appreciate the information provided. As, I am looking to buy a used jet drive boat now and I'm trying to figure out the mechanics of things. So, thanks, again!
Been curious about that motor. Thanks for the video
I seen one of these in a marina I believe it was a 40 horse mercury on a 17ft Bass Tracker I thought it was awesome, never seen one run till now, thanks😊
Yescit is
You should look into getting some trim tabs and a Hydraulic Jack Plate, trim tabs for your porpoise issue and the Jack Plate to move your motor up and down. I use a Mod V hull and the Jack Plate made a big difference in performance.
Jack plates usually void warranty. A jack plate gives you set back which is a big no no on a outboard jet performance wise.
Jack plates don’t void warranty, not sure who told you that. I have a Mod V-hull, so not entirely a flat bottom and definitely not a tunnel. The Jack plate allows me to run different depths, but with the height adjustment and trim I get 32mph with my 60/40 Jet on my 17’ tracker with Pontoons on the back. It was an improvement of just over 4mph, plus the ability to run shallower.
@@dscott1972 bs, call up lowe and see for your self. Void
@@dscott1972 if you were set up properly you wouldn't need a jack plate lmao
As I mentioned, I have a Tracker (Sportsman) and I used the recommended bracing for the boat and for the minimal set back of the Jack Plate. I worked with the dealership and had them install it.
Thank you for getting back to me.
G3 18CCJ
Totally put me off getting a jet outboard thanks
I am ready for a prop again myself. Its more of a toy than a workhorse.

Hey im practically your neighbor. Wartburg. Subscribed
Awesome and thanks!
dude awesome video. Thanks for the little run down on the jet.
Thanks!
Good For shallow water river and Creeks , But I had problems in Bigger open water , Slower than a prop too , But once ya get it up on plane it don't take much water to make it go that's certian , I had a jet on a 125 , big all weld boat it was heavy ,I could run it in 4 inches of water IF I HAD IT ON PLANE , Lol I got it Stuck Across a Big blown down oak tree in a creek one time lol 😂 had to call a friend to come pull us off it lol 🤣🤣 ,I added a tunnel to channel the water to the jet foot it worked ok ,
Good information,
Thanks
Great boat Billy.
Thanks
Quite informative.
Thanks!
G3 are heavy boats.we been running jets since 1990.Dealers never set them up right.
I did have to take it back to be mounted highs to stop porpoiseing.
@@TNRVG mounting it lower would just have more drag.If your sitting back near transom you gotta trim in.everybody here running big motors consoles are the whole way up at the bow.
The jet I had before this one had the bottom of the boat even with the foot. It was only a 17 footer with think hull (weldbilt) and a 65 jet. So very lightweight setup. The weight really made the g3 a pain to tune.
he got her skint back son!
I wonder if the jet doctor whale tail would stop the pourposing while letting you keep the outboard mounted back up where it was.
Someone did suggest that to me in the past. The jet manufacturer makes intake fins too.
@@TNRVG We do sell Fin Kits at Outboard Jets, contact sales for more info.
I bought a rhino with the same motor that Greene marine had built. He had a hydro jack plate put on it and the whale tail. No porpoising,
Alan makes great boat builds!
cool video man thumbs up. I am considering a yamaha 115 just not sure weather to go pump or prop.
Jet drive
Getting lots of splash I think you can tilt your motor up 2 bolts it'll run faster and be more fuel efficient I had the same problem with mine I ended up buying a jackplate
When I had it higher it porpoised really bad.
Move the motor up again then put as much of the weight as possible to the front .heavy motor on a light boat
I will keep that in mind for the next jet boat I own. Thanks
When I consider the gas consumption I wonder what do you prefer on the jet over a prop? Also thank you for sharing!
Jets eat the gas really bad. You are basically taking an outboard that is almost 50% more horsepower and keeping it at full throttle all the time (the head of an 80hp jet is 115hp). So a 90hp prop will sip the fuel in comparison to a 80hp jet. Even a 115hp prop will take less fuel as you won't be at full throttle all the time.
I’m thinking of buying a Jet Drive Kit for my 75 4 stroke that’s on my 17 G3 hopefully my boat is not to heavy dry weight is 920
That would turn it into a 30hp outboard. Would be really weak for that boat.
Dang the way it’s set with a Atlast Micro jack plate 19 pitch stainless prop turns 5800 rpm’s at 42 mph I love to fish real shallow was hoping a jet drive would get 25/28 mph
42 is really good! My math could be wrong. The numbers online are all over the place. Yours could be as strong as a 50hp with jet foot. That could squeak out what you want in speed. All my jet boats in the past were the biggest I could afford. Just enough to hit 30mph.
I put Bennits 6/8 self leveling trim tabs a week ago to hold down the porpoising the 10/10 tabs have 30 lbs of more pressure at 90 which I should have done on gps I did hit 45mph but it started porpoising again I’m hoping a jet would still work for me 🙏

Yamaha 80hp or Yamaha 90 VMAX? I think they have the same weight.
Yamaha 80hp Jet. Which has a 115hp upper. You lose up to 50% of your horsepower when you add a jet foot.
I'd install set pods-
Cool !!!
Muitos bom ese sistema parabéns parceiro
Thank you! Obrigada!
What are the (dis-) advantages of a jet instead of a prop?
Loss of power. More gas used. Possible early engine failure due to high RPM's all the time. Holes in your boat from hitting stuff.
Hello. I have the same motor, works great BUT I can’t seem to get the water to circulate through the motor. Just trying on land before taking it to the lake. My hose is running with the ears arojnd the motor. Just drains out? Any advice?? Thanks
@@EricaF-i4c I think a jet picks up water differently. Is there a clean out hose plug on the side? You can use that. Also, when in water you should see a strong water discharge.
4 cylinder/ i4 outborad
I have this boat. 2018
And why do you need to be at wide open throttle on the lake ? Once on plane you can probably cut the throttle back to half and still stay on plane. I have the exact same engine. I don't go flying around wide open all the time.. lmao
You can cut the throttle by about 10% but half will pull the boat off plane.
@@TNRVG not with my rig it won't. 1870 weldcraft tiller steer.
Lol...pods ain't gonna lift your motor on your transom.. lol
They will lift the back up and act like trim tabs. I live on the back of the boat. I have been on this exact boat with pods added and it was on plain almost instantly and kept the back stable front to back (no sinking) while standing on the back.
You in TN? Looked like Watts Bar
We did this on Tellico.
@@TNRVG at least I recognized our local hills lol. I like running up towards Citico or putting in above the dam and hitting the sloughs in that area. Watts Bar is getting almost over fished lately. I’ve got to where I like Parksville and Harrison Bay more
Yeah I normally fish Watts Bar. The quality of Catfish have been in a decline over the past few years.
Damn thing sounds like a diesel 😂

Price tag ?
I would say under $15k. I was recently quoted around $15k for a 150/105 Mercury.
I am looking to jet dealer where is it?
I got this boat at Madisonville Marine. Tri County Marine also has jet boats. There may be more in East Tennessee that I do not know about.
Thank you for reply
Does it create extra speed and reduce fuel consumption?
I do not know.
Trim it up when you run??
Not on a jet
@@TNRVG you must trim to get it to perform properly on plane.
Not with a jet
Not correct at all with jet@@mag07r
Here jet out board
Yep! I miss having one!
How's this motor on fuel? Roughly for day of fishing about how many gallons? Nice boat-
I have not figured out the MPG of it yet. Most of my guided trips have not used more than a quarter tank of the 17 gallon tank in it.
Thanks for info. That sounds like pretty good on fuel- I'm one of your newer subscribers so I haven't seen all of you vids yet- Where do you guide mostly? Are you in East Tennessee?
I am in East Tennessee. I like guiding around upper Watts Bar in the Kingston Tennessee area. Welcome aboard!
80 jet mores 120 prpp
shoe is too low
should be no spray like that
If I remember right I had to lower it because it was porpoising like crazy. My previous jet boat had the motor higher with no issues. I am not sure why this G3 was so off balance (not the only issue it had).
@@TNRVG interesting if u dont mind me asking what are the other issues i like the g3 boats and always has my eyes on one
It was unstable on the water too. I had a 17 foot jet boat that was more stable.
@@TNRVG I ran a 90's Harbercraft Nahanni 16 ft windshield boat with Mariner 2 stroke 75/50 jet and it did well for a few yrs, 33 mph top end and easy on plane, Towards the end of 7 yr ownership the top end was down to 28 mph probably due to wear in the jet. Really enjoyed that boat, and am about to do the same thing again soon, maybe with a Kingfisher Falcon 1625, perhaps a 90/65 Yamaha, not sure yet. I think both the harbercraft and the new Falcon have 12 degree deadrise at rear. Same company different name now.
