THANK YOU so much for joining my first four days of RUclips Live Art School! I had so much fun! What other subjects would YOU like me to teach for future live videos?! Let me know below and we'll try and schedule some more live lessons when we can!
i enjoy sketching, zentangling, and water color! I really enjoyed your lessons on everything. Maybe watercolor pencils or zentangling or zentangle doodling....I think you are an amazing teacher!!! thank you for giving me so much knowledge in subjects that I am just staring to learn!
Thanks you, Jenna, for the four live videos.
I am SO grateful! These lessons are invaluable, and I can already see my art getting better!
Finally finished watching all four lessons. Thank you so much for your generous teaching and you teach so well!
Jenna, all 4 classes invaluable, thank you!
I’ve just recently found your channel. I’m so motivated and uplifted by your encouragement and explanation of all details. Thank you.
I love colour psychology!!! Colours definitely have the ability to change my mood. Pink always lightens the mood, but neon pink adds that fun factor 🤩
I loved your comparison of calmness to blue and how adding blue to red will naturally make the color appear more calm. This instantly made sense to me! Years of studying color theory in school & professionally and this is the first time it has been explained where I truly had that AHA! moment. Love your tutorials
Glad that was helpful, Rachel, thanks for sharing! ❤️❤️
Thank you Jenna! I have worked through the exercises in your book and am now watching your videos. I have learned a ton from you and look forward to practicing!
You're so welcome! Thanks for the love and support, Virginia, I appreciate you! ❤️❤️
I was looking everywhere for this particular pattern video of yours. Sooo glad I found it, I was looking for this exercise to practice my leaf strokes, just like u suggested in the video.
I just love watching you!! The way you paint is freeing.
Glad you enjoy it! ❤️
Thank you Jenna for these lovely diversions from "real life." Interesting times they are. I have learned a lot about a lot of subjects that I need to practice now. I especially appreciated your teaching on composition. This was helpful to me. I find when others teach composition they assume you know something about composition already....and I don't. So thank you for starting at the beginning!
So glad this was a helpful, enjoyable distraction for you Robin!
It is wonderful to see & listen to ur explanations! Really good! A patient Art / Painting Teacher on the go to share skills & knowledge to all interested!! Great! Jenna!
Thank you very much Jenna. U r totally brilliant. I am just starting watercolours. U make it look so easy so I said I’d give it a go. I have discovered it’s much more difficult than I expected!! I have all my supplies so I’m going to preserve and hopefully il improve with time n practice. Thank you again for all your help. Una. 🇮🇪💕
You are truly gifted instructor! Thank you for sharing on RUclips. I’m in very small town which has nothing in Arts!
Ive worked in oil but changed to watercolor when my mother became adversely affected by oils. I’ve read books, ordered professional paint, brushes and paper. I couldn’t get anything started for classes. I just began practicing again after 7 years. I’d just began..
Ive continued to piddle when time allowed.
Caring for grandmother then mother and working didn’t allow for much.
God Bless You!! I taught Math 40 years. I’ve always been creative and painted crafts.
I moved 12 years ago to a town that is unbelievable!!!
No Art anywhere. I’ve tried with city leaders, etc. I’ve tried to get JH & HS to understand extreme importance to children’s mind development. Critical thinking is absolutely research based. Oh, the children I have taught (I enjoyed kids that were having difficulty because I could “plug in missing pieces “ & have seen child go from failing to A and keep it..
My heart breaks for those kids who are truly gifted in arts and have NO idea what jobs are available due to lack of understanding in this community.
You are best teacher I’ve ever seen in Art. I took few lessons in oils and had Art in other 2 towns and schools the first 25 years in teaching prior to moving to West Texas. It’s an oilfield town and very different.
I’m ADHD. I’m have very analytical side but also extremely sanguine. I found out about 25 years ago and I truly believe that I function well analytical due to my sewing, creating since 6 or 7..
Keep it up!!!
I’ve learned so much in these 4 videos.
Thank you for sharing! It’s ur gift from God.
Nancy Rolfe
Thank you so much for all the love and support!! Enjoy your painting, Nancy!
Jenna Rainey I went on spree yesterday and watched many of your videos. I’m not familiar with the other places I can find you or your classes offered...
I did receive both your books this week. Fantastic! Again, I reiterate , you have God given talent for teaching.
I also love how you make your husband laugh. It’s added a cute and loving feeling.
Oh! Your prescious baby in background of calligraphy/hand lettering lesson was delightful for this 60 year old as I was learning.
Gods blessings be with you and your family sweetie,
Nancy
Thanks for doing this Jenna.
Beautiful fruits! Lots of great info! Thankyou !
I just saw this video. The way you explained the colorwheel was great. I totally understood what you were saying. Thanks for sharing and explaining.
Glad it was helpful! Thanks for sharing, Wim!
I only got to catch a few minutes of the live but I'm in here now ready to learn something new.
Btw thanks so much for what you are doing to help distract our minds and put something beautiful in there instead.
valuable info, Jenna. Thank you!
So much fun and great tutorials. Thank you
I have been taking notes especially re composition, thank you. Complex issues but by the end I understood them as you incorporated them into a whole picture rather than a series of individual demos. I look forward to your next :)
Glad it was helpful! ❤️
I really love all your teaching! You so inspired me to love colours and brush moves more than just making something beautiful! You are so talented at teaching! We are so blessed to have you on RUclips!😁😁😁👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤😇😇
Aw thank you Li for all the love! ❤️❤️
Hi Jenna, really enjoying your tutorials so far, with lots of instruction on brush handling. Sorry I only found you today, so I'm watching the videos not the live tutorials, Hopefully I'll be able to see one live soon.
Thanks for the help wonderful to watch the lovely hues!! 🎨🖌✨
I know it’s me but clang or clinking too much for me
Yeah I got to finish watching.
Haven't painted it yet though.
Thanks again! Gonna try the galaxy one first.
Thanks so much. Learned a lot
Thank you for this! I've really enjoyed your Everyday Watercolor book and it was fun to see technique live (and recorded). I would love to see a tutorial of the rosebud from Everyday Watercolor book - I still haven't been able to figure it out completely (I've tried it three times so far). Thanks so much!
Best teacher on youtube , amazing skills . Thanks
Wow, thank you! ❤️ ❤️
Thank you very much for sharing, such an amazing information. Big hug from México 🤗😊🙏✨❤️

I am so blessed that I found this video. Excited to learn more as I binge watch all of your videos. ❤️🎨 #musclememory
Practice. Practice. Practice. 😍
Thank you for sharing your skill! You are the best teacher! Would you like to teach how to paint simple forest with ray lights effect? Or maybe sunrise at sea?
Hi, I love watching!!!
I’m beginning to be redundant, but I’ll just say once again, I’m so pleased w how much I’m learning from you in these videos. I intend to stay w more and more of your tutorials and can’t wait to get elbow deep in them, too. ⚡️💖⚡️
I'm so glad this is helpful for you! I hope you continue to enjoy my channel!
This is a wonderful lesson.I would love to see a floral painting with these shades.Thank you so much and I've pictures of your baby boy on Instagram he's adorable
I would love to see more on how you set up composition. The last hour of this class was really helpful to me! I have both of your books but only recently thought about going to RUclips, lol. Thanks for being so extra generous with your time on these 4 classes!
Thanks for the feedback Jennifer! I do have a video on floral composition < ruclips.net/video/6tkxPmHs3Lo/видео.html > and my fruits/veggies piece covers a lot of composition as well < ruclips.net/video/n0XdV5qF91g/видео.html > hope that helps!
@@JennaRaineyChannel Ooh, thanks! I had found the floral one but not the other. I'm really enjoying all your videos!
I love your fruit and flower videos so much ! The composition tips are very useful 😊 Please do more fruity videos
Thankyou so much! ❤
Fruity videos would be so fun, we'll try and done one soon!
ohhh nooo this is the LAST DAY of your art school!!! I really really learned sooo much....please please do some more!!!
Hopefully will do some more soon!
Love how you 'teach'.
Thank you Jenna for this great tutorial. Would be lovely if you wrote a book on color theory. You are an amazing teacher.
I would love that too, actually... very busy at the moment, but I definitely would love writing more on color theory!! Maybe in the future! 😊
Hey Jenna! I just had an awesome video idea... A tutorial for color mixing value scale wheels like the grey one you referenced in this video. Also would be great idea for a lesson on art therapy\color psychology and how they associate with color theory.
Thanks for sharing.
Lovely
❤️❤️
Hi 😊 Thank you so much for your very informative art classes. I am currently setting up my first water color palette, and I’m on a hunt for a warm blue. I have settled on Winsor & Newton for now, and I was wondering what warm blue you would recommend for my palette. I have been thinking about either French Ultramarine or Windsor Blue red shade, but was wondering if you had a red shade when it comes to mixing with other colors. I appreciate any advice. 😊
I have always avoided colour theory as it's too confusing, but you have actually made some sense of it for me. Thank you. !!!. Im watching lots of your videos trying to learn. Im wondering if instead of working your way back towards the red, from the green, could you also have gone the opposite side of the colour wheel and gone up through the blues etc ???. Or is there a reason for the yellow/orange side ?. Thanks so much. Watching from Australia.
Jenna, you are a very talented woman. Best of luck in your successful business and continue sending us those wonderful videos. Where is your booklet for downloading? Thanks!
Hello Jenna, Great classes, thank you. I was wondering what the bottle and nib box in the top left corner are for? :) Wonderful class, can't say that enough!
Thank you so much!!
You're welcome!
I like your OC as you keep adjusting your work area. However I really love watching you paint. So keep up the good work.
Your friend jimmyJo
Hi Jenna, I was just enjoying this lesson today for first time. I have a question. Which tubes of paint would be considered a true red, yellow and blue as primary colors....royal blue scarlet red?? Etc. How about green and yellow and purple...as pure colors according to the color wheel.
It's be nice to see a video on how to make value scales like the value scale wheels you reference in this video.
Jenna I have artezza, prima and just bought sap green and opera rose. It seems the colors from different companies separate...or is it me? Really appreciate you sharing your gift. Thank you.
I love this! All you quarantine art school classes have helped me with my newfound love of watercolor. It started with a Zoom class with theMintgardener in August and then the Watercolor Summit where I found you. Thank you for sharing your talents.
Jenna, I know you have a tutorial on painting color charts, but I would LOVE one on painting YOUR color wheel. I bought one online, but it's not the same because it's not using the exact colors you use, which are the colors I'm using, and probably many of your followers. I would use that all the time if I had that.
Thanks for the feedback Laurie, I had some similar thoughts in mind! ❤️
Jenna Rainey Wonderful! I can’t wait to see what you have in store for us! ❤️
@@JennaRaineyChannel Yes, please. Your color wheel is beautiful and I would love to make one of my own. We know you are busy, but if you can put that on the list we would all be so grateful. Thank you for sharing your talents with us.
Jenna, I noticed as you were doing your hue change from red to orange to yellow (about 35 min in) you started swishing your brush in the cool colors water. But according to my understanding of you showing us the color wheel, both red and yellow are on the warm tone side. Why did you switch waters in there for a bit? Is there something there we should be aware of as we are mixing colors?
Do you think you would do a book on sketching/drawing? Would make a great addition to the series as reference material to these videos. Absolutely love these videos. Haven’t got the nerve yet to start my watercolor journey but have all the supplies. Going to try the floral motif you did in day 3. I think I can do it. So lots of basic practice and then attempt the motif. I was thinking of doing it with colored pencils. But can’t make a mistake .... can only have fun😄
YOU CAN ABSOLUTELY DO IT! I believe in you Patricia! I hope you have fun diving into the watercolor journey. And thanks for the feedback, I don't have time now for making a book like that, but if I do get the time, that's a wonderful idea! Thank you!
A ha...thank you for the brush information.
Hey Jenna, how would it be for your eyes if you use ALL colors of the wheel? :)
Hey Jenna! Thank you so much for these videos! I have been watching the lettering and calligraphy tutorials, I've learned a lot. I have a question about the watercolors you are using here and other videos.... what would you recommend? to buy individually or as a set? Is it available as a set, like a "starter set"? Thank you!
Hey Sophelia! I actually have a full playlist of videos on my supplies < ruclips.net/p/PLdb2U9SHuFlKJwcKAzcOqdJXbxwnmF2H6 > and I also link to all the supplies I use in every video. I LOVE my supplies, it's not a completed set, I bought them individually. I found the colors and brushes and paper I love, so I'd recommend checking them out!
Thank you for generously sharing your skill with us. I missed a couple of the "Art School" tutorials but I will for sure get around to watching them in the next few days. I noticed in your supply list of watercolors you list 12 colors but are using a 24 color palette that looks to have a color in every well. Is there a full list of what you have on your palette? I have your first book and it looks to have the same colors as what you have listed here. I like to set up a palette for an artist that I frequently follow. Just makes set up a bit quicker and easier.
Kim Henderson hi! I repeat a lot of colors in my palette and there’s 2 greens in there that I never use :). The list of 12 is all I used, there’s just duplicates because I go through them fast!
@@JennaRaineyChannel Haahaa, well good to know. Thanks for the quick response. I have considered the type of palette that you use since they are inexpensive, light and portable.
Hello from London Ontario
Hey Jenna, I keep on having trouble getting that sage green that you mixed with phalo turquoise + opera rose + cadmium orange. Any tips on that?
Ok, so I think the problem was that I actually thought my "cadmium orange" was actually "cadmium red pale hue"...so, it was always turning out more of a brown grey color. I tried first mixing my own orange and then adding that to phthalo blue and dropping in a touch of opera rose and it did give me that sage green!
Awesome lesson
Glad you liked it
Hi Jenna i would like to paint a butterfly. Any tips on that please..im still new with watercolour paint
Where can I purchase your books in London Ontario?
Hi Jenna, I am watching bunches of your videos, and I am really enjoying them and learning learning quite a bit. Thank you so much!! I subscribed to your channel and signed up to receive your color theory booklet download. My printer ink was bad, so I had to buy new ink. Now it is in, but now I cannot find the email with the link anymore. How can I get it again?
Thanks for following along, Marion. Here's the link: Floral Watercolor E-Book: jennarainey.com/floral-ebook
Thank you very much for replying! I was a bit stupid, I guess. For some reason I was searching for a color theory booklet. So sorry for wasting your time. I enjoy your videos immensely and hope to somewhat be more successful in water colors than in Alcohol Inks. I never created anything I liked with them. With your videos I get the confidence that even a not-so-creative mind can learn a skill.
I am hearing you from Oswego NY
I’m a little of both dainty & bold lol . The perfect contradiction hey
Would love to see your supply list but it gives me an error 404 code 😞
like and thank you
Thanks for the visit!
Permanent rose is my favorite pink! So surprised you don’t like it. You paint lovely pinks.
Maybe husby could Re-edit the video. I’m having a hard time following sometimes because of the cuts

Depends on my ocd for that day 😉 playfully speaking
Did you stop at 4 ?
I only have 4 live art school classes up now, but plan to do more!!

An instrument for writing or drawing, consisting of a thin stick of graphite or a similar substance enclosed in a long thin piece of wood or fixed in a metal or plastic case.

Your color wheel is a little confusing to me. There are four colors between the primary blue and primary red. But there are six between the blue and the yellow, and five between the yellow and the red. Did you mislabel the color wheel by labeling the blue primary one spot to the right of where it actually is? If you did, then there are five colors between each primary, and everything is evenly distributed.
There is so much you do that I so appreciate and admire. However I do wish you didn’t dismiss the fact that the subtractive color primaries are Cyan, Magenta and Yellow. Especially since you work in photoshop in cmyk. What are the color cartridges that go into your printer? CMYK. Our teachers of old taught us wrong. The modern correct way is that CMY are the painters primaries.
No you are quite wrong Sorry brainwashed by so called modern terminology and processed colour
What's your opinion of this video?: ruclips.net/video/NVhA18_dmg0/видео.html
In that 'red' and 'blue' aren't actually 'true' primary colors and cyan and magenta are...
