Introducing a new way to study figure drawing...
At New Masters Academy we're always looking for new ways to help teach the fundamentals of art. Recently we have begun releasing (via RUclips) a series of timed reference videos that we call the Daily Life Drawing Sessions: • Daily Life Drawing Ses...
These sessions allow artists to practice drawing 1, 2, 5, and now 10 minute figure drawing poses that we have selected from the vast Image Reference Library: www.nma.art/im...
These sessions have been met with with overwhelming enthusiasm which sparked a new idea:
Now we have begun recording real-time video lessons where your New Masters Academy instructors draw from the timed sessions right alongside you. Here's how we recommend you use this resource: First do the DLDS video yourself one or multiple times trying to stay true to the timer and improving on your initial drawings and understandings of the poses each time. Next watch your favorite instructors do the same drawings from the same videos as you, comparing what similarities and differences there are between not only you and your favorite instructor, but also among the different instructors. This is an approach that has never been implemented in art education and so far the feedback has extremely positive. We currently have the first 5 sessions recorded by both Steve Huston and Glenn Vilppu and we will be adding more instructors and more sessions on a regular basis.
For all sessions including over 500 hours of video lessons visit: www.nma.art
Charles was my 1st figure drawing teacher ever. Cool to get a new lesson from him.
It s so fun when they struggle to finish on time :)) ths is the proof that even masters struggle just like us
He doesn't want to give details to non essential parts. If he wants he would finish it in a snap
@@prateek6502-y4p You don t get my point. I understand what are you saying but it s about relaxation, not tension. especially on this kind of exercises.
This IS my goal… to sketch so quickly with accuracy and fluidity in such a relaxed manner. This septuagenarian appreciates 👏
NMA can help you achieve this goal. Join us!
Steve influence vibrates through the paper even in speech. Charles so talented.
Thank you great tutorial and process demonstration!
His one minute's have actual faces. Wow.
Mr Glenn Vilppu says that after a lot of experience you start to draw directly.
This is what he is doing here and is not easy. Its his technique
Really enjoyed this video!!
Thanks for the video it was informative :)
He knows how to sketch well, but wish that, Mr Hu; did more speaking about the anatomy, or spoke more about his thought process about the model, or the why's of this line and that line? No doubts that he has the ability to draw lifedrawings though. He does pick up the sharing around 14:40 good...cheers ;-)
Kanzee, these are meant to be demos of what our instructors can do. Since they are timed they are not lectures. For the in-depth "why" and "how" visit us at www.newmastersacademy.org
New Masters Academy Thank you for your response. I take it that all these videos you post are to be taken in the same light then...as demo's ...I will be visiting your shared link , and am looking forward to more tips , tricks, and the learning much about the process of your instructors...cheers ;-)
What paper is being used for each medium?. Other demos in the series indicate the materials and support at the beginning. Would be grateful to know. :)
Sean Slater Hi Sean! Here's the paper you were asking for: Seth Cole Heavy Ledger paper, 32 Ib. acid-free. Thanks for watching!
thanks so much
Could you have a video starting from the base shapes
We have many lessons dealing with basic form construction at our site: www.newmastersacademy.org
How can I see the model biger ?
:o Charles Hu.
i want to be an illustrator, and i would like to know, what should i learn, i've been with the gesture for like 3 months and i've improved, but i want to work on other things at different times, what's next? i want to learn things at the same time well, at different hours of the day i'd draw the gesture, then the bean, then anatomy, but i need a guide, i hope someone could help me :DD
Gestures are obiusly sooo helpful, but as an ilustrator wanna-be (like me) you should focus more on anatomy than gesture, also colour theory, design and perspective.
oh ok! that's going to help, thank you :D
u r welcome
I've been taught that gesture drawing is about the big overall flowing lines, not those bit bx bit 1 inch lines cause they tend to lead to uncleanness, creating flatness and stiffness. I've been taught that these typrs of lines display misconception and uncertainty. I don't know what to believe anymore ...
HeiA Glenn Vilppu always say: There's no rules, just tools =]
Charles is an amazingly versatile artist. Rather than work in the "Art Center style" we decided to mix up he approach from video to video. In this case Charles is working in a direct style.
HeiA It's because the tool he's using at first: the pen. With pens, it's good to make something direct and clean. If you see when he's using the charcoal, things get a lot different on his approach. :)
This is sketching , not gesture drawing... Read the title.
Not bad, but the process could be more fluid and expressive. Also, often, key shadows of the thighs and butts are left out.
not teaching anything here.we are seeing a guy drawing.Mine looks as stiff as his.
I can do just as good a job at doing these crappy quick sketch, if not better, than he can. Stick to Steve and Vilppu for guidance, I can't believe all these years and he still can't do quick sketch.
Respectfully disagree. I think Charles' drawing are excellent. They are different from Huston and Vilppu to be sure strong work. Of course, not every teacher is going to connect for every student. If you prefer those instructors, by all means study their courses. -Joshua
damn, you should go get a job teaching at art center as well then
@@xN1Ks Art Center is not what it used to be, overpriced for what is taught.
Do you have a link to a video were you draw like this?
@@adolfolobosco179 I'm not advertising myself as a Master, If your going to put yourself out there as one, then you better be good.ruclips.net/video/PBf5Q-7BdHI/видео.html See a differance?>
