    Just wanted to thank you for this video... after watching this whole video, I took a look at my furnace system and *understood* it! Today, I have totally cleaned and tightened up all my heatleaks, looking into installing bypass vents, and upgraded my filter system! WOW! Thanks so much!

    Duct tape should not be used on duct joints. Use HVAC Foil tape or duct mastic. Also you should clean the flame sensor at least every few years as that is a frequent source of furnace malfunction.

    Thanks so much! Any big differences between this inspection and a similar inspection of an electric furnace?

    Nice video,however i would like to know about the condensation pump? Does the pump work when the air condition is on ?
    the float in mine is stuck / How do fix that?

    • @SSLFamilyDad
      @SSLFamilyDad  9 лет назад

      If you are having trouble with a condensation pump that could be for both heat and cooling depending on your system. I am assuming this is for a drain and it pumps the water away once it fills up. If the float is stuck just pickup a whole new unit, they are not expensive. Hope that helps!

    At the beginning you shut off power and gas. At what point do you turn it back on? Did you have to "light" anything on your modern forced air furnace?

    • @SSLFamilyDad
      @SSLFamilyDad  8 лет назад

      +Sandra Delgado Once everything is put back together you turn back on gas and power. Modern furnaces do not use a standing pilot so you should not have anything to light. Great question, thanks!

    I was wondering how do I light the furnace after checking it. Is it automatic or do I light something and does it depend on the year that it was made?

    • @SSLFamilyDad
      @SSLFamilyDad  7 лет назад

      +Jill Roberts if it is like mine there is no piolt to light

    Can you ruin a gas furnace by not using it? I live in a large flat and prefer to use a space heater in my bedroom rather than run up costs. Landlord says I have killed the furnace by not using it the last few years. Is that possible?

    • @SSLFamilyDad
      @SSLFamilyDad  8 лет назад

      +Brandon Curtis I can't say I can really understand how you have ruined it by not using it unless rodents or water got in there somehow and because you weren't using it, it wasn't noticed.

    Duct tape isn't the best tape for sealing ducts, despite the name! It drys out over time. Paper backed foil tape is the best tape for sealing ducts. Surprised this isn't mentioned in the video. Otherwise a very informative helpful video.

    The air filter should be changed every 3-6 months.

    • @SSLFamilyDad
      @SSLFamilyDad  9 лет назад

      +Matt Bruns Great point, cheap filters should be replaced 4 times per year but if you have one of the 6" media filters they are supposed to be good for one full year.

    • @mattthomas1217
