Check out this video to see their shocking reactions.

This movie is from the point of view of Haider. It is about how he perceives the people and event around him. It's the unreliable narrator trope. In the end, Haider fails to see how he can still be the hero of his story by destroying his remaining family, thus unable to decide whether to kill his uncle or not. Oedipus complex also plays a fair share of role in it. He wanted his father to be there as there was no loving relationship between the mother & the father. A new man coming into the life of his mother. It was not his father that the uncle replaced, it was Haider. It is a very complex movie purposefully set into the chaotic era of 90s in the Kashmir, reflected in the dark and gloomy environment set in the film.

Also other Shakespeare play retellings of Vishal Bhardwaj that you guys should watch include: Maqbool (Macbeth) starring Tabu and Irrfan Khan, and Omkara (Othello) starring Ajay Devgn, Kareena Kapoor Khan, Saif Ali Khan (Fun Fact: both Kareena and Saif are real life husband and wife), Vivek Oberoi, Bipasha Basu and Konkona Sen Sharma.

A movie like this where there is so much politics involved wouldn't be able to get made today in today's political atmostphere....its very black and white now and this movie offers a gray view of the entire situation in Kashmir...and even though the story of Hamlet is being told, one can easily see story of Kashmiri youths and their growing extremism and the cycle of violence through this story and it was very smart decision of Vishal Bhardwaj to not explicitly say who are good and bad people in this movie instead tell the story from the point of view of the victims to the cycle of violence that makes you feel empathetic to the people in this situation and nowadays people will hate such movies

The movie is very well directed, but as long as you treat it like a story. It takes random facts and spins it into a story that would suit a narrative. From the start, you harboured terrorists in your home, you had secret compartments made, men in uniform got martyred..the military came in, got him. Didn't touch the wife or son. The son is still studying in Delhi, he is allowed free movement in and out the region and all that. But the incident is presented in such a way that you feel for that doctor family. It goes on like that throughout.

This movie just decided to humanise the other immoral side as well. Some of it sits well with me some doesn't. The part where he goes to search his father, he resents people around him, I understand. I am afraid that Andrew and Courtney would not understand the regional issues here in Kashmir and might take this movie at face value, just like translating Hindi into English will loose it's ground truth which only a regional local person can understand

Kashmir Files can never in a million years achieve what this movie did in terms of nuance and critical acclaim.
No one will remember the Kashmir Files in a few years, but Haider has becime a cult film and will be remembered for years.
Propaganda sells but it is short lived and leaves no mark in the larger scheme if things.

The movie "Haider" is an adaptation of Shakespeare's Hamlet and depicts the true story of the Kashmiri people. It sheds light on the violence and killings that occurred in the name of AFSAFA (chutsafa). "Haider" is a masterpiece, particularly due to the exceptional performance by Irrfan Khan.

i am from kashmir, islamabad and i think the director has done justice by showing the real fear and sorrows we kashmiris have to face .from the moment i have opened my eyes i have always seen this kind of blood shed and chaos. many people in the comments say that haider is a propaganda movie ,lets be honest here, if haider is a propaganda movie then kashmir files and the kerala story are as well .i personlly dont treat it as a movie cuz it is the bitter truth we had to face....
