    Really nice series Dave, thank you for the tidbits of information and things to remember when doing a job like this. I’d probably never check pots to see if they were linear or audio, just figure they would be audio. That was interesting. I loved your tip about the spring clamp to get the screw started, top Info there. And I really liked the brass plate idea, I’ve already bought some brass and plan to have it handy the next time I get to do this. You Rock Dave, all you need now is a book.

    Nice work, Dave! Really now, Dave, aren't the tough dogs the most satisfying? Taking something from craptastic to being all that it can be is where you really feel the power of your luthier art. And those are the ones that stick in your memory, for better or worse, though, eh?

    super great job on this guitar. hell i bought a 1981 cherry sunburst les paul custom course it comes with all black plastic and pickguard, i called george gruhn in nashville got all original gibson blonde plastic pieces bought 2 dimarzio super distortion and made a ace frehley guitar minus the middle pickup which he never had wired up. big task, but it came out great.

    I've watched a few hundred of these now Dave. This three parter is my favourite. There are others that are hella fun, too (I was kinda disappointed in not getting to the end of the Easter Egg dyed guitar build though), but these three? The best of em over the past 9 years! If Ace drops by again -- invite him to stay again. (Though perhaps suggest the owner to spend less, as I am sure you did.)

      A super Ace fan of mine has both the Epiphone and Gibson Ace guitars. He always has his guitar friends try both. When asked "Which is better?", they all have the same opinion. The Epiphone plays and sounds better.
      NOTE: This is not a slam on Gibson, but rather just an observation. If you are thinking about buying the actual Ace Gibson, be sure to also try out the Epiphone version. You may be surprised.

      @@chrisf6216 Heh heh... I found an interview with Ace Frehley out here about his guitars. Yeah, that's a lot of money to put into that guitar but you did a great job. Looks like a great ax now. I like to upgrade lower end guitars but they have to have good bones. I do the work myself so it doesn't really cost me a lot. I hate to think the total investment on that for parts and labor. Had to be close to $300 just in pickups.

    I would've just wired it like a Peter Frampton Les Paul and put the toggle switch to the neck and bridge, with one volume, and one tone, then put the middle pick-up to the other volume an tone knobs, and be done with it, but I will say this you are SOOOO Awesome of a Luthier to figure out how to wire that "Thing" up like that, I'm really impressed with this series of videos on that instrument (an l use the term loosely), I wonder if YOU know how dumbfounded you've put every half-ass wannabe guitar-tech, not ta mention some of your colleagues with this type of refurbishment, MAN-OH-MAN can't wait ta see what you post next, I'll it's gonna be hard ta out-do this one, keep up the good work, Later Pal

    I thought Canadians pronounced the L in solder as we do here in the UK. As a matter of interest, do you say ZED or ZEE Dave? Serious question....

    • @roberttrifts2737
      @roberttrifts2737 5 лет назад

      Canadians go with Brit spelling, but the vast majority of our pronunciations are the same as the Americans. So in Canada, it's pronounced "sodder" as opposed to "soLder". But it is always ZED , not Zee. The line in the sand is drawn there.
      But for complete Trans-Atlantic bewilderment, try figuring out Canadian measurements in practice. Sure, Canada is "officially" metric, but it's actually a mish-mash of Imperial and Metric, depending on *what* is being measured. We have converted to litres and celsius rather completely, unless it's alcohol that is being purchased. Weight is Kg and grams, only *sometimes*. You'd buy your dopes in grams, unless it was an ounce. But you buy your meat in pounds. Unless it's sliced meat at the deli counter -- then it's grams. You would NEVER express a person's weight in anything but pounds. You'd measure for a recipe in teaspoon and tablespoons, but you'd buy your milk in litres. Km and miles compete for dominance without resolution, though speed tends to Km, whereas distance tends to be expressed in miles, though that is in flux. (Yes, seriously. It's seriously that screwed.) As Dave would say: "It's Gooched".

      The three pickup black beauties go for minimum $3000 US used and they're not in great condition at that price and really not easy to find at all. I have an Epi Black Beauty that's a really solid build and they're around five in really good shape. The three pickup Black Beauty's are the closest to this. I don't know what the actual signature Ace Frehley Sigs are going for, likely a whole lot more.
