Spencer I agree completely with the thoughts you have portrayed in the video, however, we are coming to the time of year were it is about to become open season on a football player who has spent the majority of his career in England. Every year James Mclean gets death threats, sectarian abuse and receives no support in England from the PFA or any groups in England. Is what the Bulgarian fans did last night any worse than what all of the media, fans and pundits say about James Mclean?
But the abuse at James is at his nationality not his ethnicity, he is caucasian yet the abusers are also Caucasian... it’s still completely wrong I agree however it is different to this situation

I Changed The Name Basically he said what happened was brilliant for the game because things needed to be put into action and last night was the first time players were threatening and walking off together, I think that’s the best way of explaining it but probably haven’t done it very well

Forgive me if i'm not correct but the problem is the police and authorities don't take hate crime seriously in Bulgaria. I saw some statistics that was hard to believe. That in 2016 700 hate crimes were noted by Bulgarian police..the followings year it nose dived to 25!! So clearly they are not taking it seriously..and that is permitted by their superiors i.e government.
In sofia they are linked to the mafia and basically run the football clubs. some games they are the only people that turn up to games so to ban them would be to cut off your nose to spite your face. ive spent time with both cska and levski ultras and while Levski will call cska far left communists, in my opinion they are both politically far right and all that comes with being that way but NOT specifically ONLY white supremacist.

As a bulgarian, i`m sick, SICK of just the thought of what happened last night. Whoever reads this, i`m so sorry on behalf of the decent people that live in this country. Many things have to change now, there should be punishment. As a passionate football fan I`m feeling very low right now, I haven`t felt such shame in a long time. Apologies to everyone involved.
I am Bulgarian and it hurts to see in my country always in the headlines for the wrong reasons. We as a country have very old way of thinking . The corruption kills every hope to change. I don’t know the others country but here nobody teaching you to respect the rights of the other nationals . It is actually much deeper then that to be honest. East Bloc countries are like this. For them it's normal. They were behind Walls, black people were not seen so much in soviet union, ex-yugoslavia, Bulgaria. That's why this countries want to keep their race pure.

I want to go a bit off topic and say how UEFA did at least something about this but when it comes to Turkey doing the salute celebration every time they are turning the blind eyes. On the topic in order to stop this problem you need to see where it comes from and why, it is no coincidence that in countries with far right or left governments you see such behaviors, it is a systemic problem and to should be sorted from the start(birth). A lot of these people learned from their parents and grandparents that such behavior is not just acceptable but celebrated as well and lastly the education of each individual.

Have you ever stopped to think that maybe Bulgaria doesn't want new age, multiculturalist, "progressive" education? Thanks to communism the eastern block countries are probably decades behind Western Europe in terms of tolerance, they haven’t had the decades of multiculturalism we’ve worked through to get to this point. Combine that with the social economic issues across Europe that is fuelling the rise of both far right and far left politics it’s a far bigger problem than what football can make any difference to. It’s too big a problem for uefa as well it’s not what they’re set up for. They can impose fines and bans but it won’t stop the ultras or change their opinions. Multiculturalism isn’t easy to make work, it divides a society and you end up having segregated societies within a society. I’m not sure it will ever work 100% I think we will always have that herd instinct where you stick with your own kind, we are tribal by nature and it unfortunately comes out on the terraces. We haven’t moved that far away from the coliseum in Rome where the masses were appeased by connecting with their primeval nature. It’s only a release of what’s bubbling underneath. I certainly think we are more tolerant but I do think we are also better at suppressing it, doesn’t mean we don’t have the same problem it’s just better hidden.

jice12 I think you’re missing the point. Within the black community we are taught to work twice as hard as our white counterparts to at least get a bit of respect. I go to a predominantly white sixth form and I constantly feel the need to work harder just to be heard. In the work place I sometimes feel I have to overwork just to have a chance.

Hello Spencer and everyone from England 🏴. I’m from Bulgaria 🇧🇬 yesterday the match was not good to watch, neither for the fans of England nor for us. as a football fan we didn't see anything nice. but we want to say that before the match England fan died of drugs, the evening before the match there were clashes with fans, the British were also raiding in our capital. in Bulgaria there are two big clubs with many fans - CSKA and Levski Sofia. this group of 20 people who showed these signs are from Levski. the second half when they were gone the match was not stopped last I want to say that yesterday was not a fan show as it should have been
