Lyrics:
When you grow up, living like a good boy ought to
And your mama takes a shine to her best son
Something different, all the girls, they seem to like you
'Cause you're handsome, like to talk, and a whole lot of fun
But now your girl has gone a-missing and your house has got an empty bed
The folks'll wonder 'bout the wedding, they won't listen to a word you said
We're gonna take your mama out all night
Yeah, we'll show her what it's all about
We'll get her jacked up on some cheap champagne
We'll let the good times all roll out
And if the music ain't good, well, it's just too bad
We're gonna sing along, no matter what
Because the dancers don't mind at the New Orleans
If you tip 'em and they make a cut
Do it, take your mama out all night
So, she'll have no doubt that we're doing all the best we can
We're gonna do it, take your mama out all night
You can stay up late, 'cause baby, you're a full-grown man
It's a struggle, living like a good boy oughta
In the summer, watching all the girls pass by
When your mama heard the way that you'd been talking
I tried to tell you that all she'd wanna do is cry
Now we end up taking the long way home
Looking overdressed, wearing buckets of stale cologne
So hard to see streets on a country road
When your glasses in the garbage and your continental's just been towed
We're gonna take your mama out all night
Yeah, we'll show her what it's all about
We'll get her jacked up on some cheap champagne
We'll let the good times all roll out
And if the music ain't good, well, it's just too bad
We're gonna sing along, no matter what
Because the dancers don't mind at the New Orleans
If you tip 'em and they make a cut
Do it, take your mama out all night
So, she'll have no doubt that we're doing all the best we can
We're gonna do it, take your mama out all night
You can stay up late, 'cause baby, you're a full-grown man
Do it, take your mama out all night
So, she'll have no doubt that we're doing all the best we can
We're gonna do it, take your mama out all night
You can stay up late, 'cause baby, you're a full-grown man

20 years old today (30.03.24) and still sounds so fresh
Sounds fresh because it sounds classic-kind of Billy Joel/Elton John-ish with a bit of Queen thrown in
It's fresh because we're subjected to some really awful trash music for some time now with some notable exclusions obviously.
Been listening on my old sound system to this album and it made it clear , very clear the difference in quality over this is insane
FUCK! Seriously? Damn. I have lost all sense of time.
This is the most 2004 video I’ve ever seen and I love it. The song is just as good as it was 20 years ago
Everyone in my family remembers fondly the day we caught our dad trying to hit the high notes in the chorus while washing the dishes. Love you forever dad if you ever see this :)
Thats so wholesome and amazing
Awww
I'm not YOUR dad but I was a dad doing the same :) Must be a dad thing. Hehehe.
I'm doing the dishes right now. My son's are rolling their eyes at me 🤣🤣
Makes me think of Brian Cranston in Malcolm in the middle LMAO
20 years old, I so miss the Scissor ✂️ Sisters
They're touring still shame that a couple have left and been replaced though
Tickets booked, can't wait 🎉
First heard this on the overhead speakers on graveyard shift, working at the local airport. Made me stop whatever I was doing at the time ... and dance. Great tune.
Yeah. I first heard this at Trader Joe's and then spent all kinds of time trying to find out what it was. I was glad when I did.
i thought this was cheesy as a kid but as an adult it's refreshingly timeless songwriting
this entire album has been my favorite since the day it came out, and i was only 2 when it came out! my mother always says i would dance along and the second i could understand the words i’d sing along, im almost 22 now and i’m currently in a phase where ALL i listen to is your music!! ❤
The early 2000s were probably the craziest, most insane, and creative period for popular music.... and for fashion.
You obviously missed the 80's
@@HermannCortez I did, indeed! Good catch. I think the difference between 2000s and 1980s "craziness" is probably that 80s had a more artful style with at least some cohesion. 2000s was just batshit crazy, campy insanity that was all over the place all the time.
What's a crazy music video from the 1980s you remember that you'd say is on par with this one?
Learn something about history beyond your generation.
@@CrowBoy-p7f Care to share any of your knowledge? I'd love to learn!
No, but this band was fun
This song pops up on Spotify. I’m like WTF?? Great song, vibe. I’m 53, love great music with hooks and this is one of the best.
This song has always really given me a classic Elton John/Bernie Taupin vibe.
Never grows old ... a work of pure, vaulting, creative-genius.
'and if the music ain't good well it's just too bad we're gonna sing along no matter what". I've held these words dearly in my soul since the first time I read the lyrics. it's so funny that I found everlasting wisdom in the place I did not expect at all. cheers
I hope the Sisters realize how important it was for a little 14 year old gay boy from Southeast KY to see and hear this in 2004. Thank you for the music!
Haha dude, I'm a straight guy and the vicarious, residual gay pride I felt off this song was HAM out the window mane. What a BANGER, though, I want to do a cover of this, but with more roiling, boiling, rock-and-roll bass playing!
I'm a 50 year old straight guy and this makes me proud of you. Btw, I'm ky born and bred. Congrats RUclips friend
Aww💗💗💗💗
I am so glad Jay! I totally support you! I'm straight but my little brother is gay. I support him with all my heart. I support the LGBTQ and I always will.
Turd Ferguson excellent
I am one of the few who have watched live in a small gig in London- held 2000 people - lovely bar - have a smoke - and relaxed and fazed out to watch this great band- just wow and Ticketyboo
This is one of my favourite songs of all time. DOOETTTT
Can't believe this only has 3.9 million views. One of the catchiest most fun and cheerful songs ever! Every time it comes on I feel happy!
Haha, yeah, man! You could even say, it's gay! :)
Oh yes ...
even now I can't believe it only has 8m
Sure!!
We’re on 9m now!
One of the best bands I seen live! Amazing stage performance both in music and costumes. Class act, pure legends.
As a straight white dude who lived in a gay club during the time that the Scissor Sisters were huge, I'm grateful they existed. Many friends deserved to be seen back then. I'm glad that things have improved so younger people can be themselves. Uncle Erik is cheering on all you people that don't feel love from your family!
And now.... Men are beating up girls. Actually beating them up in sports. It was ok to be gay back then. Fun even. Now it's so grotesquely blown out that it's just plain ol wrong what is happening. Our sisters are getting hurt.
Here I am at 42 in SLC, UT in 2024 and when I look back over just the last 2 decades, wow. Gettin' shit done, it's what it's all about...both young and old are tasting free, open air these days at long, long, long, long last.
@@gregoryjclark81 And now they're "coming for your children" -San Fransisco Gay Men's Choir.
Look, no one gives a damn how many miles of pipe you take, just keep the children out of it or it's going to get ugly.
boomers and we Xrs hated and burned labels. i'm afraid these younglings will divide and conquer themselves with the resurrection of them. but i'm eternally grateful. and proud. and jealous. that they don't know the fear that gave them what they have.
Ha gayyyy
Hadn’t heard this in 15 years, I’d forgotten just how damn good it is.
I've probably posted this before but Jake in this video has a totally Glaswegian vibe going on. The ladies of my mother's generation - born into hard times in the 1930s - would have bloody loved him.
Scissor Sisters are always on FIFA, love it!

Gay man: Damn, this was my coming out anthem.
Straight man: Damn, this was my favorite jam from Fifa 2005.
Omg the shame I felt back then. I think about it now and I smile though, I mean Fifa turned out ok later on.

Fifa05 for me

My fav song from FIFA 2005
I’m 30 now but when I was 13 I discovered this album by accident. I was young and not out yet due to a lot of reasons so I hid who I was by listening to their music. I handed down my old MP3 player to my sister who is 2 years younger than me and forgot to erase it before doing so. This was one of the first songs that played when she hit shuffle so she asked me about it. I was scared she was upset with me but she loved the song and we shared my secret for many years. I’m out now and we still listen to this album along with all the others together. It’s on our road trip playlist and when we hang out it’s always playing somewhere in the background.
That's a special memory, thanks for sharing.
and now 32 :D
Thanks god this band is bringing the 70’s back
I’m late to this party but I’d give anything to have seen them. I’m a life long phish fan. I’ve played this for 30 days in a row on my rotation. They’re insanely good.
This song has coaxed a smile from me since '04. Watched the music video for the first time today -- and the good-natured silliness just adds to it. Thank you Scissor Sisters!
Damn, this album is filled with classic cuts. This being my particular favorite. Wish the Sisters would get back to the honky tonk and leave the drama and ego at the door.
God, I miss them so much. I wish they would give us just one more album.
Oh yes ....
Com certeza eles merecem estourar o triplo.
Same. Mean this album was so catchy.
Sadly Isaac Kappy is now dead
@@louiedutoit5020 he wasn't in their band
Sending this to my Sister Jeanne who saw Zeppelin live back in the day and Loves multiple genres of music..She will Love this as much as I do !!❤❤😊
I only recently discovered this band. Great stuff. :)
19 years now this song has been bringing joy.
I always think this could be early days of Elton John. Love it.
I’m not gay. Doesn’t matter. This is the best song ever. 🙌🙌
This song was 20 years ahead of its time. Only just now discovered Scissor Sisters. Love this song.
It wasn't ahead of its time at all. In 2005 it had a nostalgic vibe FYI.
@@arthurballs9632 it's not about the vibe. It's about the full construction. The lyrics, the meaning, the music. All of it. If this was released today it'd be a top10
@@GrimDarkHistory none of that makes it "ahead of its time"
it sounded old 20 years ago dude ahhahahahaha
This song combines the best possible worlds of supremely dance-able music and supremely clever and biting lyrics.
This song actually made me take my mama out all night, and I sang this song at karaoke. Cheesy af, but she was a detective for 25 years. The time I got to take her out after she retired, I'd been waiting for that moment. I hold that memory close.
Cute
Seriously adorable!
I wanted to do the same. Sadly, she passed away before I could do so. Regardless, the song always brings a smile to my face to the fun night that could've been.
You aren't the only one! My mom had a blast! The look on her face was priceless!!!
you're a good son
This song always makes me happy. Their version of "Comfortably Numb" is amazing.
"Take Your Mama" is Classic Rock, plain and simple. I loved this song from the moment I first heard it in a Karaoke bar. The melody and the lyrics are perfect. Upbeat, happy, leave you with a smile every time. This song feels very much like the music I most loved when I was a teenager in the early '70's. Songs like "Brandy" (Looking Glass), "Ride Captain Ride" (Blues Image), "Rocket Man" (Sir Elton John), and "Beginnings" (Chicago), were the music I loved then, and "Take Your Mama" fits right in with those classics.
Yeah, with bands like buck cherry, the darkness, etc - the 2000s, especially early 2000s, was a bit of a resurgence of 70s classic rock
Liked this song from the first time I heard......but back in 2004/5? Shhhh, seriously not cool. lol
10/10 makes me want to hang out with my mom. She loved to sing this song on the ps2 singing game we had. She's a riot.

I saw Jake in Kinky Boots in January and the fact he was from Scissor Sisters was advertised everywhere so I promised myself I'd check out his music. Two months later, I finally remembered that promise and I haven't been able to stop listening to this song all day!
Please come back. We miss you and could use your magic music right about now.
Right! They always brighten any of my not so great days and an instant dance party!
I always forget how awesome scissor sisters are. Bloody brilliant music
they write some deeper stuff too! - did a great comfortably numb and return to oz is on the bob Dylan level!

This definitely deserves more views and likes. Great song and video. That angel outfit and the triple-kick.. quit. Brilliant simple art.
Always loved the Scissor Sisters they were so awesome I still listen to them when I need to push away the blues.
Big Love brought me here. Margene is dancing as she's looking at pictures of her mother. It was a surprisingly moving scene.
I love the randomness of their video, and how fun it is. Doesn't make it shit at all. Look at 80's music videos.. they were often quite crazy. It's fitting to their sound, and their energy.
Saw them with the Gossip at Birmingham..Ab Fab!!!!😁👍🥰
Glad they’ll be on tour next year. This is my favourite song.
Omg love this and the fact that it came with fifa 2005 makes it even better
this just makes me smile. very few songs do that these days with talent.
My mom use to play this song for my brother and I when I was 4. I'm now 16. Crazy how time flies. My bro and I loved this.
This is a mood.. A groovy mood. I'm glad I found this song again.
It's very groovy
C'est vraiment Géant les Scissors Sisters
Love this!
Heard literally twenty seconds of this song for the first time before adding it to my favorites. Good god, so much awesome!
When this album came out, I played the crap out of it!. Just a great song and it makes you yearn for the days when people wrote really good songs and the charts were full of talent.
Same. Used to play the CD over and over
to this day the editing goes so beautifully to the music. the way all the images goes to the beat and the singing is pure magic and to this day this song is still catchy as it ever was and makes you want to sing along makes you want to dance.. Bravo all around
This was one of the best albums of all time! I was 11 when it came out... loved scissor sisters ever since
This song reminds me of the music I listened to in the radio when in the early Seventies I was a young teenage man, happy music.
This is just incredibly clever. Songs in general should make you feel happy like this one does.
J. Craig Anderson Scissor sisters are true geniuses.
J. Craig Anderson I enjoyed this song, then I read the lyrics, and I love it even more so
J. Craig Anderson Agree
+J. Craig Anderson What part is clever
Jeff Byrnes How is asking which part of it is clever is either pretentious or trolling?
I'm genuinely curious why the song is held in such high regard. I don't care for it much myself, but I don't think think having a different opinion qualifies me to be a troll either.
Only 10 million views. This is a Classic!
this was the very first scissor sisters song i ever heard and I've loved them ever since, now its 13 years later and i still cant get enough of their music . i listen to them everyday!!!!
How ridiculously fun is this song!!!
