And this why we love this channel. I don’t think there is any chance that this type of song would find the light of day now, much less on a national broadcast. Thanks, again.
Damn Midnight Special does it again! Good Gawd! Mark Almond band...Mark getting those sounds out of an acoustic obviously rigged up sonically...friggin wah wah pedal !
The name comes from Jon Mark (singer you see on lead) and Johnny Almond (you see playing sax along side Geoff Condon on trumpet). To me it's next level jazz influenced rock. I love the way the vocals and the horns take the same melody lines. I love the jazz rock sound. And, the drummer is Dannie Richmond, who played with Charles Mingus. Really great surprise this Saturday morning!
When we saw this live I couldn't believe Dannie Richmond was the drummer, a legendary drummer for Mingus his whole career! This appearance has Almond/Mark who had just left John Mayall and contributed to his five star album 'The Turning Point". Hi Janice, I have close to a hundred Mingus albums, an old favorite of mine.
@@brötzmannsax And I think he was still playing with Mingus at the same time. I really liked this 7 piece grouping. Too bad it didn't last that long. My piano teacher was a former jazz pianist who toured with a big band when she was very young. She influenced my listening. Her son was my age, and she would have several of us over listening to music in her basement. I remember her playing us an album from Monterey, and I think "Blue Bird." She was the director of the Wichita Jazz Festival and while I was in high school and college she recruited me to work checking in student groups. I think the first year was 1972. I got front row seats each year on the last day for the national groups. Saw Max Roach a couple of times, so that made me think of Mingus. Saw Jay McShan, Count Basie, Dave Brubeck, Buddy Rich, Sarah Vaughan, Louie Bellson, Woody Herman, Stan Kenton and many others I can't think of right now. Seemed like a normal weekend in those days, a lifetime ago.
Love the other Maestros, but seeing these vintage drum kits and amazing drummers makes my big toe shoot straight up in my boot!! Thank you Midnight Special.

I got into this band when I was about 19. I'm 40 now. Still love them

It was kind of like a mix of Santana & Chicago. Really cool song. Great style!
The jazz influence is off the charts! And a drummer from Charlie Mingus? That’s outrageous stuff!

That's Marc Almond from Soft Cell.
This clip is about Mark-Almond duo😊
@@SimonSheen990 I think you better google that again.
Technically, it should say Mark-Almond in the thumbnail.
@@gregoryduncan3067 Indeed
I was thinking the same thing...lol😂
Like this! 👍
Reminds me a little of Chicago Transit Authority band ❤
I think the band punctuated the name "Mark-Almond."
That's the trouble with a guitar. He broke a string towards the end.
He was great in Softcell lol
This song would be so much better without Jon Mark.
