I wanna take you Higher, baby baby baby LIGHT my FIRE!!! 🔥🔥🔥, you just can’t sit still when Sly is performing. It’s just not possible. A very catchy tune. Peace.
A couple awesome drummers on this one. Sly’s new drummer Andy Newmark - totally ignored by the camera btw - and the truly great Danny Richmond with Mark Almond.
I'm reading the Sly memoir right now and man, what a talent he is. I'm glad Sly Stone is getting the chance to be appreciated and honored for his large place in the history of modern music. Glad to be able to see this again!
It's cool that he's performing on the show but the guy is too cracked up to host it . I mean he just talks s*** and meanders all over the place . You don't give a microphone to a crackhead. Sorry 😐
Another wonderful lineup 🎉. Sly and the Family Stone are the whole package as far as talent goes. Frankie Valli and the 4 Seasons with their smooth harmonies and Melissa Manchester will bring it. I don't recognize the rest of the names, but I bet when I hear them I will recognize the music, probably those middle of the charts songs that Oldies channels don't play i love
Before media became scattered into millions of little ‘curated’ pieces, there were shows that put a real variety of styles together: Sly Stone, Melissa Manchester, Franki Vallee, Atlee Yeager. Something for everybody. It’s good to see names that faded alongside with ones that we still know. The musical past isn’t made up of just the hits we hear brought back in movie scores.
Boy Melissa Manchester got down on this episode wow the whole entire band and the way they were harmonize in oh wow damn I wish I could go back to the seventies I really miss that era heaven how you changed me
They had some serious classic tunes big girls they don't cry damn I remember that when I was a kid back in the seventies and the 80s I used to hear that a lot ha ha 👍💯
As successful as Frankie V. and the four seasons were at the time of this performance there was much much more success and fame to come with December 1963,Oh what a night peaking at #1 on billboard hot 100 in 1975, Grease (is the word) #1 billboard hot 100 and more! including a broadway musical and movie (Jersey Boys) , a recurring role in The Sopranos and on and on and on. There was just no stopping a gutsy guy with a big heart , a good mind and an incredible voice.
Never been a huge fan of Frankie Valli but damn, he knows how to entertain. His band was great, too. I also enjoyed Melissa Manchester. Mostly I know her hits. Never heard that song and really loved it. The harmonies were amazing.
The lady Singer on the left, OMG she could have been time warped from 2020s, her style, her looks, her everything was so futuristic that it's insane. Just look at her wardrobe to her hair, that's all I'm going to say
Another great one to come. I had not thought of Freddy Weller in decades. I listened to Paul Revere and the Raiders when I was in elementary school. My aunt supplied me with "16" magazines. I don't remember the exact timing, but sometime around 1967 Phil Volk (Fang) and another two members left the group. Freddy Weller joined then. I remember listening all the time to his solo endeavor, "Games People Play" a couple of years later. This will be a hoot. Of course I'm a fan of the Family and Mark-Almond. Can't wait.
The next show from November 2, 1973 is a good one as well. It was hosted by Chuck Berry, and it also features appearances from Rick Derringer, The Edgar Winter Group, Fleetwood Mac, Shawn Phillips, Johnny Taylor, and Muddy Waters.
I like how they take 🗽 s with the thumbnails and switch positions and let Wolfman Jack have 1st position every once in a while. TMS people aren't mechanical robots.
It's more about what's the best screen shot we can pull from old footage and positioning Wolfman based on the eye line of the host. We don't think much more than "cool picture"
Interesting....October 26 1973 was my 18th birthday. I signed for my own surgery (to repair a left leg that was shattered in a motorcycle accident two weeks earlier) early that morning. I was in traction in the hospital bed when this aired (this show actually aired at 12:00am on Saturday, October 27th). I was in no condition at the time to watch it, so I have never seen this show before. Such memories... Anyway, I am a true Sly and the Family Stone fan (to me he is one of the greatest pop/funk/soul/r&b geniuses) and live music on the Television was relatively rare back in those days, so The Midnight Special was quite a big deal. Thanks for uploading this so I can get a chance to actually see it...by the way, I think I have a bit of a crush on Sly's little sister Vaetta to the left at 5:37, the way she breaks into that funky little dance during the vamp...
Now this is a show ! Freddy Weller of Paul Revere and the Raiders ! Sly & the Family Stone ! Frankie Valli & the 4 Seasons (Joe Long, Demetri Callas, Gerry Polic & Lee Shapiro) HOLY CRAP!!!!! Someone slap me now!
My birthday is coming up in March, I'm mentioning it now, so that is someone wants to buy me that Beautiful Belt Buckle for my birthday, you can save up to get it for me, LOL🤣🤣
@@Royale_with_Cheeze Yep, my high school girlfriend and my 1st wife, (not the same person) were born in February and were Aries. My daughter was born on 31 March and is Tauris, as was my dad born on March 28th, My Gransons were born on 4 and 7 March and joined us in the Pisces club.
When I was little during the seventies, Frankie’s 45’s were in the pile…and I listened to em! That voice! I couldn’t believe it but it was true. Dawn and Sherry were the two that I always listened to…with those huge 70’s headphones. I loved it!

I bought the Sly and the Family Stone Greatest Hits Album back in the day. Say what you want, but try smoking a joint and listen to that album cranked up ,lol.
Have to say I have never heard of Atlee Yeager until seeing line up here. And I was old enough to turn on the radio in 1973. Curious as to what his song will sound like.
Thank you 🙏🏾 for posting this. I love classic TV and have been wanting to watch this and The Flip Wilson Show. Man my parents and grandparents knew how to get on into it. Glad I grew up on good music and organic fun. 👌

I noticed that there are big red circles at the bottom of the pants of Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. Does anyone know if they had a particular meaning?
1973 and no Larry Graham, because of Sly's jealousy. Really too bad, as TFS was a great band up until this time - as this performance shows, it was only glitz now. With crummy records like "Fresh" and all that came after it, it was a very depressing end.
Any new episode of this gets an automatic thumbs up from me regardless of whether I've seen it yet ❤.
💯 For sure!!
Yes indeed.
That’s so woke !
Nice. I use the Like to mark episodes that I've seen.
It's not woke. It's merit based because the show is so f**king good.
Back when black and white folks partied together more.
This is going to be a blast! Sly and the Family Stone have always been one of my '70s favorites!🎉💥
It's incredible to have such thing for free on youtube

Yeah, it was as if they had never heard one of their songs, done any blocking, or thought of some way to better present the band on TV.
Danny Richmond! Mingus’ favorite drummer!
Sly and the Family Stone are total 🔥💯
It doesn't appear that Sly could have gotten any higher! 😉
Was just about to say that! :D
LoL 😂
Sly Stone is the cool of cool! An American icon. Many thanks to him and his band for all of the wonderful music! ❤
🆒
Sly Stone and his band were just incredible. The arrangements, the grooves, the backing singers, the joy of it all.

I watched the MIDNIGHT Special every weekend as a teenager in the early 70s. It was one of the best shows on TV
Right on, I also just read the Sly book, what a read, what a dude, what a band, what an era. There will never be another. Pure gold.

Mark-Almond's drummer is Dannie Richmond, he played with Charles Mingus! Stellar drummer.
more artists i have never heard of before...i can't WAIT to see and hear them❤❤❤ it's like the best wrapped gifts🎁
Frankie Vallie & The Four Seasons... The BEST!!!
Frankie is celebrating the big NINE-O this year! 90 years old! WOW! The old skavoots! ha
In 1973, Frankie Vallie was already 39 yo. What a beautiful voice!

Sly, the real Pionier of all funky stuff!
Frankie Valli singing “ The Scalawag Song “ from his Motown recordings around this time.
Sly's the Guy. Funk as F*** a real big time musician and showman. The Family is in great shape. Andy Newmark is a driving force on drums

Sly and the Family Stone isn't the same without Larry Graham and Greg Errico.
Franki Valois sounds great here! Oh, the days of live singing and actual instruments. Sigh
Sadly the audio and mix on Sly's performances here are severely lacking
