    Best time to come to Texas, is either in spring (late March- late april) when the wildflowers are in bloom, or in the fall, when festivals are happening and you can go to a college football game (I went to Texas A&M University)

    Texan here. ❤️ There is a lot of political divisions in the USA right now which makes things kind of tense. So politically some Texans might say they want separation because of politics but when it comes to state pride and state rivalry it’s mostly light hearted fun. (I think of it kind of like Hogwarts Houses. We like to cheer on our sports teams and take pride in our history but in the end we are Proud to be Americans!)

    Hello, I was born and raised in Texas and still reside here, down on the southern border. I agree that as a Texan I don't wish for independence from the U.S., but I will say that I have more state pride than I do national pride.

    Texan here! As interesting of an idea as it is, I don't think many people here would want Texas to be independent, honestly just because it's not really all that beneficial? Especially in comparison to being part of the US. Obviously I don't know everyone's opinion on it, but it just feels impractical to me, especially because of the winter storm we had last year that proved that independence is all fine and good until you realize you have no one else to rely on in times of need.
    Love your videos btw! It's always super nice to see people wanting to learn about other countries!

      We'll find out how popular an idea it is if we are ever allowed to vote on it. Texas has seceded from everyone: Spain, 1810; Mexico, 1836; and the US in 1861. We are now in the US because we were forced back into it.

    Born and raised in Texas. Currently live in Dallas. Independence never crosses my mind. It's usually a "what if " topic in conversation . Its very rare to find anyone who wants Texas to be independent. I'd say there are more people who support Texas splitting into 5 diff states ( Wich I wouldn't mind ) more than seeking or speaking of independence, and that too is even rare to hear some one talk about.

    The trouble with Texas' independent electric grid is that it's not sufficiently weatherproofed as evidenced last winter when cold weather shut it down, causing catastrophic damage.

    • @patrickaggie2012
      @patrickaggie2012 2 года назад +18

      Our electric grid failed just once in nearly 40 years, from an ice storm literally none of us imagine could happen. Meanwhile California has rolling blackout literally every year

    • @armadillotoe

      The increasing dependency on "green" energy was a big contributor to the shutdown. The wind turbines froze up and stopped producing the 25 % of the electricity they usually do Stupid decisions from the feds also contributed by not granting an emergency waiver to environmental goals.

  • @accuset
    @accuset 2 года назад +4

    Not from Texas, but I have family that is, and I am from the South. Basically no one wants to split the US, mainly because you lose benefits/luxuries, and then you have to do more, first to fight for independence, then to maintain it. So if the US starts falling apart, expect the South to try and separate again, but until it's absolutely hopeless, we'd rather fix things than start a war.

    If you want to hear a Texas "accent", try to find an old repeat of the tv show "Dallas". That is what we are supposed to sound like to Hollywood. Of course, that is like saying all Californians sound like surfer-dudes. As for the power outage during the freeze, just an example of poor government planning. They shut down the gas lines to protect them and overlooked the fact that much of our electricity is gas generated. Hope they learned for the next ice storm, if another one ever comes.

    Just a thought here, how many of the companies such as Exxon, American Airlines and such would still have the headquarters in Texas if they were to secede? I'm guessing more than a few would relocate to other areas in the new "proper" United States just because it would ultimately serve their interests better. Also, as I've seen others mention here, Texas does have a unique power grid and energy system compared to the rest of the country but looking back at this past winter, I think I'd probably rate it about a .1 out of 5. I rather like the thought of knowing my pipes aren't going to freeze and break just cause it gets a little chilly. Okay, it was more than a little chilly but not as cold as it was here in Minnesota!

    • @gangstarrulez
      @gangstarrulez 2 года назад +1

      I think an important thing to keep in mind when you consider if companies would stay in Texas post-independence is the corporate friendly nature that drew those companies to Texas in the first place. I think yes, some of the larger companies that depend on business of people all over the country would leave but several wouldn’t see much of an ill effect from it. Take Exxon for example, they may leave because they rely on the large size of the US to ensure profit but a company like Dell wouldn’t really be affected at all and their items would still be bought from the new US proper, just labeled as imported goods in the same vein as Sony or Toshiba. American Airlines might even benefit from secession because it would instantly increase their “foreign” flights several-fold which increases revenue without any cost to expand their infrastructure.

    As a joke ive said that i wanted texas independent, but very very few people actually want independence also about the population, thats a bit outdated because instead of 28 million we have 29,700,000 million people due to many people from states such as california moving here. According to google United Kingdom is approximately 243,610 sq km, while Texas is approximately 678,052 sq km, making Texas 178% larger than United Kingdom.For GDP, texas has 1.887 trillion while canada has around 1.64 trillion also if you want to see every us state compared to other countries (in gdp) you should look up "every us state in economy compared to countries" and go to images its very interesting

    Sports can get pretty big around here. We have 8 teams in the big 4 leagues, (2 each in the NFL and MLB, 3 in the NBA and 1 NHL team) of which combined for 15 titles in their respective leagues. (Dallas Stars 1 Stanley Cup, 1 World Series by the Houston Astros, 5 Super Bowls by the Dallas Cowboys, and combined 8 NBA titles between the three basketball teams (Spurs 5, Rockets 2, Mavericks 1). Austin. Texas also has the Circuit of the Americas, the world's toughest road course designed for Formula 1 racing and hosts the USGP.
