Best resurrection I've seen yet; can't imagine anyone else putting in the effort to do all this for a rotten old thing, but for historical, educational, and enterainment value it was incredibly worthwhile.
I swear, shango could resurrect a defunct nuclear missile silo from the 60's in a day or two while filming with one hand.
👍
War Never Changes.
I agree; he is amazing to get a picture. I had a Philco 49-1240 rebuild. The tuner was like this one. Dead. Contacts yes. But the oscillator plate blocking coil was failing frequency test when I rang it. So I used the mixer filament blocking coil which rang & worked well in its place. The local oscillator started running; the Philco would accept an antenna signal. These tuner are very rare just like the chassis. But tuners are a black box to many. I get why he stopped. Most people understand a DC battery and a light but AC is next level stuff. He clearly knows more. But it isn't a television yet.
If Shango ever gets tired of fixing things, I would so watch him watching TV programs and just making his signature commentary. Those of you who have seen the old TV show mystery science theater 3000 know what I mean.
The Shadow radio show
He tried to kill me with a forklift! Huzzah!
Spot on Casey!
Actually, that's the main reason I watch.
The highest form of comedy!
I have no idea what's going on here, but when the picture appears on the screen I am amazed.
Shango,it’s honestly incredible see you get a set this old and dilapidated to produce a picture again, and a decent one at that! Watching your videos over the years,I’ve been amazed at some of the challenges you’ve taken on and have pretty much always been able to get them to work. It just proves that nearly anything can be repaired if you’re determined and skilled enough. What’s next?
Amazing you managed to get a picture on that. Absolutely impressive
All these shows you have on remind me why I got rid of my TV 25 years ago.
I’ll bet when they built this tv in 1948, they would’ve never imagine the absolute crap that would be on it 70-ish years later. Sheesh.
That’s for damn sure!
@@Suddenlyits1960 but apparently according to some people, they think it was more than a certain set that ended them...
I firmly believe Shango can fix anything now. This ancient TV was a goner until he resurrected it. No magic smoke to me
means a complete success! Totally incredible job.
10/10 Dan,I did not think you would get any joy out of that, looking at the condition it was in.
You know if you seal the aesthetic and go for a more post apocalyptic setup this would fit the theme perfectly.
You used that word. I don't think it means what you think it means.
It has that Fallout look to it.
Had someone do with a radio of mine. It was totally grungy and rusted. Obviously been in water at some point. They kept the look but made it functional. It’s cool.
Fit the whole chassis into a new art deco bakelite or wood case and put a picture of big brother watching you on the screen.
2022 Los Angeles isn't post-apocalyptic enough for you???
Always an honer watching these kinds of videos. Amazing that you got it working in such bad condition! A true flex of you skills that is sometimes necessary to bring in customers, or just fun to brag about later!
Love these vids and adore mr Shango. Sometimes when I come home from work and relax in my chair. After a while i ususally fall alseep.
The commentary is worth the admission love it . Thanks for these videos not only fun but educational.
You're amazing man seriously, getting a heap of junk like this working is nuts.
Thank you Shango066!
I had water stuck in my waterproof smartphone's monospeaker but after 00:45:00 minutes of airplanes, ambulances and static buzzing, you've managed to restore full volume from my phone. Very nice!
If it happens again, download a frequency generator/oscillator and play low - mid sine frequencies at a full volume until it sounds good. Works for me and is also a feature on Apple Watches
With a little Restore-A-Finish this could be a living room daily driver. Replace a few more caps and we're good for the next 20 years of QVC TV goodness!
After successfully resurrecting a TV set in such mint condition, you deserved a doctor degree: Dr. Frankenstein to be precise. Jokes aside, it was really great, my truly respect for you, sir. 👍🏻
Nice resurrection... Surprised the IF was even working at the end.
Can't wait for the next resurrection. Thanks for the education in these.
There is vertical distortion. I thought it was amazing because it was reflected perfectly.👍
Excellent work sir! Thank you for showing that BK 1077B. That's really really cool.
Honestly guys, it's worth watching part one just to see shango clean the tuner.
The highest form of torque-o-quirkulation!
Yes, I did hang in here this long! Pretty cool! Thanks!
Thank you Mr. Shango it doesn't get any better than this.... Summertime, Saturday, and a Shango video to complete my weekend!
It really does have a crisp clean picture, surprising for a once beautiful set that looks like it was used as an anchor
The Black Beauty caps are filled with oil before being sealed using the leg that's soldered into the hole.
Realy surprised at the picture quality, and the fact the IF stages work. Great resurection.
I can confirm this. Because I'm old enough to have unsoldered those before the oil dried up.
@@BobWiersema It makes a hell of a mess when that happens. I've done it too. LOL.
Refillable capacitors eh?
Interesting, so they encapsulated it with a dry paper roll, than fill it up with oil? I would expect the paper roll to expand after wetting it with oil, but since it's encapsulated in hard resin, it can't. I wonder if this might be one of the issues with these capacitors, and one possible reason for them cracking.
@@mrnmrn1 Yes, It's definately a factor, also the materials inside can start to break down, and with too much current going through them the oil can start to overheat and boil.
Shango, I'm convinced there's no TV or radio you can't repair. This 75-year-old junk TV is a monument to your knowledge and expertise.
Personally I would never spend a dime or enen a minute for this "resurrection", but I've already spent a couple of hours to see your video, which is nothing less than a superb example of knowledge and experience. Thanks 4 sharing!
Shango, you have a incredible talent. Absolutely astounding work!
David Tipton says hello!! His channel deals with vacuum valved (tube) radios. His last video he fixed a little transistor radio. During testing he used a good cap across a suspected bad cap. He said, “I’m channeling Shango here…”. I laughed my ass off. So, a nice nod at you, and he definitely watches your channel.
Cheers, mate!!
I also laughed at David about the same moment. David Tipton is really the best restorer on the web. He explains everything in detail and has a great personality. These two are the best for entertainment and educational purposes in radio and TV content! Thanks for posting another winner and take care!
Outstanding repair of a set I would never even believed would work again.Liked,shared. All my best.
1:04:00 - For those who come for the comedy, from this point onward is narration comedy gold. QVC is a suckers paradise
Just amazing Shango! This thing was a total loss, yet you coaxed a picture and sound from it! I am so impressed!
Incredible resurrection, you did an amazing job, thanks for sharing! Looking forward to the next resurrections!
Spoiler alert: 48:20 HOLY CRAP! There it is! And as always very informative. Learned so much about skin care. Gonna get me some.
You are an absolute genius :)
Wish we had a repairman just like you back in the CRT era :)
always a pleasure watching your videos, Shango.... and your audience has been growing...years ago, I stopped watching regular commercial television and now
can see what I've been missing....... "I want to get my shine back... "
Really like the channel thank you for the videos it's mind-blowing to see a set this old playing again
The sharpness of the picture on this set is truly astounding, great resurrection !
I always enjoy seeing you bring one of these sad cases back from stone dead to functioning picture and sound. It's like a detective mystery, and I learn a lot about analog and tube circuits in the process.
May that chassis go to its final resting place, and may the CRT find its way into a better-condition set that needs one.
Great work. Wish things today were made with this conviction.
If anybody could resurrect a vintage piece of electronic equipment Shango can do it. This is the best Resurrection video I have seen thus far I hope that everybody that watches these videos has the time and patience and learns from what I would call the best.
WOW!! Unbelievable !!! Very impressive !!! You're a true master Tech !!!!! Very Educational !!!!!!
Yet another vintage TV Lazareth moment, I was really impressed on how well you got it working considering the condition and the BK generator unit was really interesting too. Love the infomercials and comments at the end.
You Did a Great Resurrection Shango066, A+ Nice Picture
Part 3: Cabinet restoration@! Another great resurrection from Shango.............................
"they should have rubbed that stuff on this TV before they put it in storage" ... 😂😂😂
Another "miracle" resurrection from Master Shango, but I'm still trying to find out where all the big gurlz at? Thanks and God bless baby Otezla
Never thought this set in that state was going to show a picture ever again. Hats off to your tenacity and perseverance! I also must admit I do enjoy your rants to those horrible advertisements and probably would miss them if you stopped showing them from time to time. Love your channel, thanks a lot!
Awesome result.Only Shango could do it!
But man,the 1:04:10 section made my day!!!🤣🤣🤣
Sure makes quite a nice and clear picture, with plenty of contrast! Amazing resurrection, Shango066!
You should put a book out, the smells of electric components going bad.....This resurrection ranks right there with the mouse nest resurrection. Keep up the good work 👍
I am amazed how you can fix TV's in such poor condition. You have great videos!
Love how you don't give up even on the ugly stepchild.
WOW the year I was born. What can I say Shango066 another winning video. And yes we do like long one's. Thanks for posting and making our day and take care!
This is the first TV that Shango has worked on that is actually older than I am.
This set and the 1955 TravLer were by far the most challenging ones. I don't think anybody would fix those up and get them to produce a picture this good! I think you should save the crt since it's in good shape and they're kinda rare.
If memory is correct, he had another major challenge with a late 50's RCA table top TV in a metal cabinet that he found at an old mining town that was abandoned in the mid 70's. It was either a 21" or a 24" B&W that had been sitting I think face down in the bedroom of a house who's roof had all but caved in and had let the elements rain in over the past nearly 50 years and many of the pots were totally rusted/frozen and he got it running, strictly to resurrect. That same place, same time, he found several other sets and a few things from the dump, including a GE clock radio that he got working (the radio part) after the case has been partially smashed, speaker disintegrated etc and left to the hot desert elements and totally baked badly, but he got it going, for a short time if I recall.
A testament to his skill set.
This has got to be your best resurrection to date, even better than the desert baked set you resurrected a while back.
That poor TV is probably saying. "I was last showing great shows and lovely songs. Now woken up and showing vomit TV. Please put me out of my misery!!".
I love you man I been watching your RUclips videos forever way back man you are freaking amazing awesome person
Geeze! Impressive to see you get this TV to produce a picture. Cheers! 🍻
Every fourteen seconds. That cream is flying off the shelves
I was changing out those bumblebees in 1969 because they were all leaky.
I didn't expect to see more of this set!
Amazing accomplishment, and a total crack up during the performance check.
Your videos make me sad that there's nothing to really watch on regular TV, I'd rather watch you repair them
Inacreditável ter feito essa televisão tão antiga e em péssimo estado funcionar. Parabéns e abraço do estado do Paraná, Brasil. Unbelievable to have made this television so old and in disrepair, work. Congratulations and hugs from the state of Paraná, Brazil.
You really know how to bring out the fungus in them infomercials.
Great work there Shango!
you know, every one rushed out to by new lcd and plasma screens, threw all these crt tvs out intto the trash, seems like we have lost a piece of history here, also, looks like a skills set is being lost to time, thank s for keeping some of this stuff alive.
Hi Shango. Minute 29. That’s how they fill them ( bumble bee caps) up with oil. That is a tube .
Are all the capacitors bad? ha ha. Very good conclusion of the resurrection!
I think it looks great still working, but looks like it survived a very close nuke attack 🍄
Looks right at home in the Fallout universe!
Incredible you got a TV picture out of this mold bucket !!!.
I think that set is a keeper it sounds amazing and the picture is not bad.
Yes my old TV from 1971 have no vertical deflection. I hope it is not the transformer.. it starts to fail like that here. Thank you for that viedeo. I am excited for the next videos.
Yeah it's shango time and oh my word she's a real funky beast
I’ll keep like that, with all those savaged components.
It really shine on the fact that it’s able to work even with those different components
You’re working on this TV 📺 again. Sounds like 👍 ya could restore the wooden 🪵 case with Varathane. I remember the video about the Patterson All Wave 👋 radio 📻 from 1934 a few years ago. It was termite riddled, and ya fixed it all 🆙 with Varathane and screws. This I know ya will resurrect just fine. Your friend, Jeff.
So cool to see such a far gone TV get a few more breaths of air, epic job as always Shango :)
1:14:10
Are you even more impressed when I say I am Gen Z hehe
Real talk, I didn't even know IF stood for intermediate frequency until I googled it.
That set will be the final touch in ambiance and the epitome of distressed finished furniture for the adoptee. Great job making a picture albeit a little bit of a nervous twitch !
who knew I'd be coming here to watch QVC on a 70 year old TV. Seriously, this video and repair is very interesting. Cool old TV. Oh, by the way, there are people who do watch and buy this shit. LOL.
You are just unbelievable how you can bring life to a Frankenstein TV set.
Another hallmark super crust resurrection. Great job keep them coming.
As long as it goes on the skin transformative, these words they use.
Mr. Carlson said a few weeks ago on one of the GE CX371 receiver restoration videos that those black beauties (or widows?) were filled with oil through that hole and then the leg acted as a plug.
yep seen it too
Micamold made both mica and lookalikes with paper. The pf values are usually mica. The higher values are most always paper.
It's amazing that cooking transformer didn't self destruct
Amazing video, as always
Amazing! Fun journey for us watching. :)
This. Tv is like an ancient art masterpiece! Like a Bosch. Prehistoric turdbomb! Love it.
Astonishing picture quality. Take it the state it is in and it’s age in regard.
Good job.i hope someone can make good use out of the components
Remarkable, seemed just like 10 minutes watching this video - it's that good :) Someone in my household watches all those 'shopping channels' - I wonder who? I've got an apartment full of that stuff we don't use! After a while, I take them down to a charity shop - nobody misses them :) All the best from the UK shango066
shango 066 you are the man. when i pass away can you bring me back. lol.
All you need now is to hook up a VCR with recordings of old game shows with cigarette commercials and everything.
I would think someone out there might like this set like it is, you know how people are about ' patina ' these days.
I like the way you change tubes with the set running
I may have to hook up digital TV box just so I can get this channel.
These products are just SO fascinating
I always get excited when Shango uploads..
45:52 Even after a complete recap (micas as well) and replacing any resistors that were out of spec, my 48-1001 had the same horizontal locking problem. A tech friend who knows more than I ever will installed a 10uF electrolytic (can't recall where) and cured it.
I would love to see David Tipton restore this TV cabinet. Cheers! S
Great video loved it good work 👍
