You can't file a claim against UPS when the seller didn't package things correctly. Be aware that EVERY volume package shipper uses conveyors / diverters and does not slowly carry a package from place to place, If you can't roll your package down a flight of stairs and have it survive, have it shopped by a courier service ( $$$ ) .

Awesome job Shango & if anyone could get this shattered jig going , you're the man!.
Understand you could possibly fit a separate cathode current meter inside the test jig somehow, but that classic analog meter looks frickin cool.
Felt livid seeing not just the lack of good packing & the amount of damage & hope you file a claim against both the eBay seller & UPS & if they need evidence, show this video & happy to vouch for your work as you've resurrected so many items most techs would've thrown in the scrap.
The stark contrast between the US metal fabricator build quality & the shoddy incompetence of the eBay seller & UPS is plain as day.
Having seen plenty videos where these delivery drivers just throw a package on the front porch, same as airport baggage handlers throw bags & won't shed a tear when these jobs are automated.
It takes a lot to break a CRT & I used to component level repair 19in industrial rackmount CRT computer monitors for a US company & ADM/LSI/Wyse smaller B&W CRT terminals for an Aussie company earlier & it doesn't take a lot of packing to secure it.
We shipped monitors all over Australia, especially into mining sites with hardly any issues but these days delivery drivers are hopeless with fragile items.
Can't agree more about the comparisons in music & B52s are still a kickass band!

  • @Desert-edDave
    @Desert-edDave Год назад +13

Seller should give a refund for improper packing. Sellers are ultimately responsible for you getting what you pay for, regardless of whatever "policy" exists. If banks were on the side of those who keep their doors open, we could report not getting what was purchased and get our money back.

Reversing leads on a yoke? Never happens, no. Back in the 1980s I was the kid who was "voluntold" to repair TV sets for my school teachers. It was taking away time from my own projects and annoying me, so one time I fixed a new-ish solid-state inline-gun color TV (trivial repair, bad solder joint somewhere, if I recall) and I deliberately reversed the horizontal windings to the yoke. Imagine watching Cheers with the entrance on the right and the office on the left... LOL. It turned out it was the TV for the teacher's lounge! FINALLY, I got to build my Tesla coil!
I'm sorry the shipper didn't pack your new jig well, and I'm sorry you lost the tube and yoke. But it seems you still made it into an awesome piece of test gear.

The B 52s had talent. But music companies want "product". They can't wait for talent to appear they have production schedules to meet. So they take good looking people who can carry a tune in a bucket then hit it with studio musicians and sythesized production then tell 12 year olds its good. They get their revenues and when the money dries up they throw the product in the trash. Its called the music biz.

You could put a resistor in series with the step up secondary winding to knock the voltage back down, but I would think it would "rig" around the H-K short issue.

Sorta like the opening scene in Ace Ventura - Pet Detective, in which Jim Carrey spoofs a typical UPS deliverey.

I'd file a claim against the seller, but maybe you can replace the tube in the other jig you already have as that is fully operational, aside from the cathode to heater short on the red gun.
Deadbeat club. HAven't heard that for years. Cosmic Thing was a great album. Think that was there fifth album if I remember rightly. B-52's were good.

The more I plead with sellers to pack a certain way, the less it gets done. At some point I just gave up and things are better packed. I swear they do it on purpose if you ask.

No one wants to spend the extra money to pack it right, just toss it in the smallest box it fits in, and take the money... Even if you give them more to do a better job.

I've offered double and triple shipping to cover the additional work to pack things in a particular way but it never works. 😕

@shango066 have you ever heard of "small punch / large punch" tubes from Western Electric? A guy I converse with came across them the other week, and I couldn't find out what or why they were punched. A couple of numbers to look up are the 310A and 348A.
    Thanks.

This is great, but I'm confused as to what a Color Television Test Jig actually is. Do you take the guts out of another tv and hook it up to the jig?

Considering the carelessness of delivery services these days and the lack of sellers packing material, I'll be personally delivering any delicate goods myself full trip or half way point.
