It takes a lot to break a CRT & I used to component level repair 19in industrial rackmount CRT computer monitors for a US company & ADM/LSI/Wyse smaller B&W CRT terminals for an Aussie company earlier & it doesn't take a lot of packing to secure it. We shipped monitors all over Australia, especially into mining sites with hardly any issues but these days delivery drivers are hopeless with fragile items. Seller should give a refund for improper packing. Sellers are ultimately responsible for you getting what you pay for, regardless of whatever "policy" exists. If banks were on the side of those who keep their doors open, we could report not getting what was purchased and get our money back.

Reversing leads on a yoke? Never happens, no. Back in the 1980s I was the kid who was "voluntold" to repair TV sets for my school teachers. It was taking away time from my own projects and annoying me, so one time I fixed a new-ish solid-state inline-gun color TV (trivial repair, bad solder joint somewhere, if I recall) and I deliberately reversed the horizontal windings to the yoke. Imagine watching Cheers with the entrance on the right and the office on the left... LOL. It turned out it was the TV for the teacher's lounge! FINALLY, I got to build my Tesla coil! I'm sorry the shipper didn't pack your new jig well, and I'm sorry you lost the tube and yoke. But it seems you still made it into an awesome piece of test gear. If you could find a filament booster with a isolated step-up winding, would it work to isolate the heater from the H-K short in your other jig? You could put a resistor in series with the step up secondary winding to knock the voltage back down, but I would think it would "rig" around the H-K short issue.
