Teak takes time, but there are ways to make it less painful. Personally, i’ve found that scrubbing it with a coarse sponge after fishing (once a month) should do the trick. People have different opinions on teak but few know what they’re talking about in terms of maintenance. I use a mix of ammonia and oxy clean and scrub it with a essentially a brillo pad. The oxy clean is easier on your metal than snappy teak - which does a fine job as well. I oil the teak a few times a year after cleaning it so it won’t crack as easily and maintains its color / oils. it also makes the teak smoother without having to do any hardcore sanding because the coarse sponge sands a little while you clean. I’m sure when you guys stepped on the boat for the first time the teak was looking good 😉. The covering boards have you riding in style!!

Nice looking boat. I'm looking for an upgrade to something similar.

Beautiful boat, but $750 bucks for that 10"x18" upholstered drink holder? I'd have to be drinking water or PBR after spending that on just cup holder/armrest. Platinum cup holders?🤣

@@saltwaterfishinguniversity I need to get you in touch with my father in law. He owned the boat before it was Retriever and did the major refit on it. Do you have an email or some other form of contact I can share with him?

Very nice video. We owned a 34' Tollycraft and a 17' Boston Whaler for many years. I can only imagine what your fuel costs have to be (twin diesels, right??). Back then the Bertram 42' Sportfisherman was the king of the sports fishing boats, and Viking. Would you care to tell us what that boat cost? Personally, I prefer a boat of that size with a flying bridge (controls and helm), as it provides for much better visibility and frees up a lot of space in the cockpit area. Gardis in CT

Hey Gardis! Yes, twin diesels, getting about .9 mpg most days. The boat was about 500k before the improvements we made. Appreciate you stopping by!

Excellent video, about the Blackwell. I wonder how better your 40ft is on fuel compared to a Albemarle 40ft express. I know they are deep v heavy boats. Hopefully your building rod storage in the cabin.
