I loved the film and have watched and recommended it many times. I hope you will review another great Canadian film - Incendies.

I saw this film in the theatres back in the day and it was an amazing experience. I feel this is Atom Egoyan's masterpiece, however Felicity's Journey is pretty close. Bob Hoskins performance in FJ is a masterclass in acting, such an underrated performance. I would like to hear your thoughts on that one.

I thought the score and lighting techniques were some of the best I’ve seen in cinema.

Both were certainly evocative of the tone Egoyan was going for. Thanks for watching!

I saw this film four or five times in theatres… later read the novel which is also excellent.

The film was shot in British Columbia ❤ but yeah I don’t think it ever says specifically where it’s set. Having grown up in the interior of the province the settings resonated deeply.

It’s kind of like a King film, like Dolores Claiborne …

I’m unimpressed that the movie, which is based on a real life tragedy that occurred on 9/21/89 in a small, poverty-stricken border town of the Texas Rio Grande Valley. The driver of a Coca Cola truck was responsible for the deaths of the 21 high school students that died due to drowning and asphyxiation. I was a senior in high school and still recall this traumatic memory.
As a first generation Mexican-American citizen, I can’t help but be be disappointed that the novel, screenplay and movie was shifted to the Anglo community. Why not just tell the truth?!

Most "based on real stories" books change a lot of details around. Jodi Piccault's books are another example of this. The Sweet Hereafter is *extremely* loosely based on the Texas accident. Have you read it?
