- Turns out, in 1918 the U.S. government stepped in to help dairy farmers. Cost and inflation had them against the ropes so a campaign to encourage folks to "eat more milk" was started. They used the word "eat" because at the time it wasn't common for adults to drink milk. So they encourage it's use in other ways. Like in the Peanut Butter Sandwich from 1918 that I posted on 1/17/24.
Another note is that the peanut butter I used in the video was stuff I ground, using a machine, at the store. Which is to say it was as close to what would've been used in 1918 as possible. I should've made that clear in the video instead of just saying "all natural." Sorry about that!

A 100-year-old recipe: “Add milk to your peanut butter.” 🧐
The devil that lives in my tummy: “Use cream cheese. USE. CREAM CHEESE.” 😈
That’s not the devil it’s a tapeworm 😭
As David Liebe-Hart famously sang, “Drink Milk, Think Milk / Eat Milk, Taste Milk”
I never would’ve expected a DLH quote in the comments. 🤣
He's the chocolate chip of your cookie :)
Watched this video earlier on reddit (the sandwich itslef) haha happy to get some answers to why the milk ! 😂
What if we mixed our peanut butter with… sweetened condensed milk? Are we gods, or are we but men? Will our own hubris bring about our downfall as we fly closer and closer to the sun? 🤔
We appreciate your attention to historical accuracy, Barry!
Tell us more about grinding peanut butter at the store.
That was my immediate question.
Some fancy grocery stores have machines in their bulk sections where you pull a lever and it grinds the peanuts, or sometimes other nuts like almonds, into a paste on demand. Sort of like a slurpee dispenser 😅
I love that somebody knew that!
My dad was born in 1918
Ww2vet
I remember as as a kid my dad liked the peanut butter in a can
Had a layer of oil on top
Milk it does a body good
wow what a wierd concept... The goverment actually helping farmers out and not trying to F##K them over like nowadays.
Helped that rationing of meat was on due to WWI. They also had a program to eat less meat, "Meatless Monday", that promoted peanut butter as an alternative.
