Must be nice to have a film crew to look after your unsecured bike while you do your shopping. Since I have no such entourage, I guess I'm stuck using a lock. I'm so jealous. Also, I really love the two position wheels on that trailer. That's a very nice feature.
I built a trailer for my Brompton. The main large wheels are in the centre (like yours are when you trail) and there are small inline skate wheels at the back. I no longer use it, as I have a different solution now, but it worked like yours and it was fine, except I didn't need to swap wheel positions.
Here in the New Orleans French Quarter (as well as in many other city centers), I could not imagine leaving a Brompton unattended. I'd bag the bike, place it in the shopping cart and go inside pulling the trailer - but only if buying lots of groceries (the Brompton has a luggage block bolted to the head tube and rides better with luggage there).
This the second trailer for a bike i have seen and also the same connection with the bike.A connection that is to flimsy to last long in daily practice. Why not the connection with the frame off the bike??
I bought the Cyclone trailer mostly for shopping but found it is unfit for that purpose. The first reason is that the zip opens from the rear so the only way to prevent groceries from falling is to open it on the side. That is OK for a few items like but very impractical once the bag gets full (and then, why would you use a trailer to carry a pack of biscuits and a cucumber as shown on the video? Second reason is that the trailer cannot stand on its own so you have to constantly hold it with one hand, which is also impractical in supermarkets. I still use the trailer to carry bulky items that don't fit into my panniers or bring stuff to the recycling center and for that, it is very useful.
On a recent vacation I didn't rent a car. I did all my shopping on my Brompton. But I put it in shopping cart mode and used my T-Bag, which I also used as carry on luggage for my flights. That trailer is wasted just picking up a couple of items. Maybe for camping or something.
1. We live in a place where people actually say hello and leave your Brompton alone. 2. If some dare devil would steal our Brompton he would be chased by an angry mob of Nijveners, a grocery store manager, four good looking grocery store cashiers and a handful of Radicals. 3. Everyone around here knows we are bad ass criminals ourselves since we steal cucumbers every day for lunch.
I was thinking "What?!" then I realised you're in Netherlands - I felt safe wandering around at night, even with youth still on the street :) Still, that's incredible! XD I love the versatility of the Brompton as well! :)
Depends what you put in it. A 60 litre ruckack with 4 season sleeping bag, tent, mat , stove etc is almost full , but only wieghs about 20lbs. You dont even notice it as you cycle. On the contrary, put 20lbs in a topbag on a light road bike and it feels like a lead weight.
I found the 62mm skate wheels quite adequate for trailing indoors, as the floor quality is always OK. The little wheels at the back also mean the back of the trailer doesn't bash on speed humps either. If you want to see a pic, contact me via the messages; I can't post URLs in these comments, it won't let me. Looks cool, btw.
I think Radical Design Trailers are the most innovative on the market however I am curious about the 2 position wheels on this model. If in walking mode the trailer doesn't bottom out, is it really necessary to move the wheels to the center when towing? It would seem to me only necessary if needing to balance the weight when carrying something heavy. In that case couldn't you split the mounting position between the walking & towing mode & still have reasonable results?
The bike lock, OK, but that would be security, not safety. The helmet though... what's that for? Only handicapped people, kids with overprotective parents and racing/MTB cyclists wear helmets here. Plus... the best they do is protect you from a fall while standing still. Do you want pedestrians wearing helmets?
jcvjcvjcvjcv thanks for pointing out such a *funny* typo, will correct it. I believe kids at least should wear a helmet when learning (a variety of disorders come from hitting the head). In general it isn't going to save you if riding downhill at 90km/h but might reduce the energy reaching the skull. This said if a scooter/moped/roller that reaches 45 requires a helmet, I don't see what makes it different from a bike that easily reaches that speed too. Then law can be obeyed or not, but some sense is there sometimes... To me is even weirder that a mirror and light + direction indicators isn't fit standard: coming from cars and motorcycles, that's the first thing I miss riding a bike.
The ones with blue license plate ride 45 all the time without helmet. The helmet also increases your size, making you more likely to hit something in the first place.
Some places ask that all people leave their bags but many don't. You're actually allowed to put anything inside a bag. Shoplifting as defined under law is leaving the store with unpaid items.
Hi Jonny, yes, the Chubby is specifically desgned for folding bikes like the Brompton. In this video you see the Trekking bag, the brompton doesnt fit in the Trekking, only in the Chubby.

Oh yeah, and the Brompton's still there when he gets back, lol! Also it was painful watching you bend over when assembling the trailer at the start. You'll wreck your back doing this a lifetime! Nice trailer design, though.
Max load in kg? Any chance of using a 3wheel system for stairs climbing in the back? And interesting idea the rollerblade wheels at the back. Any nice way of having the bike connected to the trailer while shopping? I wouldn't leave any bike outside a supermarket unchained even in Zurich, Switzerland (where do you live?) First thing as soon as I bought the bike was to ziptie an acoustic movement alarm to the frame to prevent unnoticed theft...

Is it durable enough to survive weekly shocks up the stairs w/ 20lbs of stuff in it or would I have to empty it out and carry it separately?

Enjoyed the video! But sadly like others have commented here. That bike would have been GONE, within a minute of being unattended here in Miami. Looks like a nice community where this was shot. At least we have pretty girls and warm weather here!
I have a trailer on my brompton that tows my daughter, however it leans forward too close to the ground...sometimes scraping on uneven paths ..any ideas to rectify this? how many inches are your trailer wheels? (although mine looks the same in proportion to the bike) but that might solve it.
As soon as one package got put into that red bag here south of Boston not only the manager would come running out but the cops would have already been called too~! I think this is in Denmark.

Wow... You can actually leave your bike without chaining it up, and come back to find it, where and as you left it :-) Over here, you also have to remove all the QR fasteners and replace them with fasteners that require a wrench. Otherwise, you may return to a situation where the frame remains safely chained up, but without wheels and/or a saddle, etc.

Here you are supposed to bring your own bags and backpack when you shop. You don't get free plastic bags. A lot of stores don't even have those baggies for sale anymore. So it is very normal to transport the stuff you want to buy in your own bag. I always show my backpack to prove there is nothing more in my backpack but some people only show it when they are asked.
