Jared once again Great video, goes to show you don't need a boat to get in on some great fishing here in SE Louisiana. Lots of great places like that. Even if you don't catch a keeper still great fun. Thanks for sharing. GOD Bless
Have a winter bayou that produces reds and specs like that for 3 months of the year, mid Nov through mid Feb in the Florida panhandle. Our slot on reds is 1 @ 18''-27". Specs are 3 @ 16"-19", 1 over. Even when our spec limit was 5 I've filled my limit in 12-15 casts. Used to live 6 blocks away, make more than 1 trip a day. Now it's some distance but I'll be hitting it in a few weeks. It's actually a pinch point made by a short bridge. Tide flow going out they seem to line up above the flow under the bridge, pick up whatever comes out of the upper marshes with the outgoing tide.
Yes I"ve seen that before but so many years ago . I remember seeing green water up in NOLA on the river . Looks like you were fishing on the east bank down around Belle Chasse . Did you notice the odd looking crew boat running up and down from ship to ship ? That was probably my grandson who runs a water taxi boat on the river ... As always enjoy your shows ...
Looks like a lot of fun. I know that some salmon fishermen wrap salmon eggs in cheese cloth to help keep them on the hook. I was just wondering if the same technique might work on shrimp as well?
Fishing in Mo. some would use panty hose/nylons for liver catching cats. Bait shop I used sold spools of weak thread we'd wrap around the liver 5-6 times than easily break the thread. Had a bunch when I moved to Florida, and getting disgusted with bait fish(pin fish)eating the shrimp bait, I tried the thread. Works well.
Good evening Jared. I visited NO in September with no gear (Apart from a tiny 3 piece rod with which I caught a minute crappie, without a license in Armstrong Park in NO , just so as I could say I'd caught a fish!) I'm coming back to NOLA at the end of March next year, have my rod tube and LA license already bought and trip booked and paid for. Planning on fishing in St John bayou. Can you give me info on what sort of gear to bring (I have salt, fresh and surf gear, everything from 6 to 25lb test) and suitable bait, or point me to a reliable source for advice? Recently discovered you and Pelican Bone. You're an absolute delight! (We're only in NO for 8 days. but may be open to a one day guided trip)

I tried close to the gramercy bridge yesterday and got skunked. might try farther down the river.

Redfish will go into fresh water for a hundred miles as fish are caught up the St Johns in Jax, Florida as far as Lake Monroe.

You are pulling them reds in like speckled trout 😂
Have you ever fried or grilled a whole redfish before??

Great action! Heck, you could have probably tossed out a large piece of cut bait and catch yourself a Bull Shark. Sure wouldn't swim in there!
