- Do you have a VW T5 / T6 Transporter / California 2.0 TDI / 2.5 TDI which has run for more than 200.000 km? You start to hear a knocking engine sound? Bad luck. Your camshaft and it's lifters / tappets might have worn. Expensive repair needed. Just watch this video how to diagnose if your VW T5 Transporter has this well known VW T5 issue.
After seeing this video most of you might decide to do the repair in a specialized garage. In a drive way setting not many people could pull this of as a do it yourself job.
Good luck!
Cheers

Just done mine. I also did the water pump, timing belt and injector seals.
Cost me $1500 in parts and 4 days.
Respect man!
@@DoctorCarLove Your video helped me diagnose the problem, t5 is running great now. Thanks
@@bradmcqueen8104 Delighted to hear that. Sharing is caring!
What tools is needed to take out the camshaft??
Dit was dan een mooi leer project voor je.
En daar ben je nooit te oud voor …
What sort of money should something like this repair cost?
My t5 engine 2.5 has got a metal scraping sound coming from the engine joy
hoeveel kost het als jullie de nokkenass vervangen ? en hoelang zou ik de bus kwijt zijn ,?
What can happen if not fixed in time?
Kaboom
Literally your engine will explode 💥💥💥
if you have this problem.......run very fast
Is this wear caused by high mileage, or not using vw506.01 oil, or not frequent enougth oil changes, or not having clearances properly adjusted?
Nope. Just 200.000 km (T4 engines did 400.000 km just fine). All the service intervals with specified oil as it should. Pretty dissapointed with the quality of these lifters. Talked to a lot of VW mechanics. It seems to be a well known issue through their entire engine range. I guess progress comes at a price. Cheers
@@DoctorCarLove Thanks for the information. My (2006 T5 2.5) has faint knocking and noisy tappets at 80,000klm. Missing my old air cooled T3, even more now. 😢
