  • We spend a day on the bench to finish the brake pad rebuild / re-lining. Then I explain the adjustment process at the end of the video. It is a bit of trial and error (as usual). Overall, progress continues on the 1939 Cat D4 agricultural crawler. 4G9986 "Lil Lefty" has never been so much fun and fulfilling. I hope you enjoy the shop talk, banter and commentary.

I have learned a few things about this type of job. I may have to do the same thing to my boat reversing gear that has a worn planetary gear brake band.

Great job, another good video. , I just got my service manual and am almost ready to adjust my brakes. I had a full tank of fuel and have been driving it up. Have been busy digging test holes for septic so much to do, but loving it. Thanks again

Really had some flashback while looking the break bands rebuild. I had the same struggle with 2 crawler break bands and found out the best way was pre tightening them before doing the final ribbiting to the metal band. Also had to recess the ribbit head holes, other wise the ribbit head would stay way too up of the contact surface. Ofc I messed up here and there and had to redo some ribbits. I used 8mm(0.32 inch) ribbits. Original size was 6mm(0.23 inch) since 6mm ribbits where impossible to find I had to redo the holes in the break band. It was not a fun job first but it got more interesting as I figured out things along the way. I did use the same cloth/brass woven material as you did in the video. Only difference was I ribbited mine in not in segments but in as one unite.

You need to find you a old foot operated brake band machine you can rivet them on with

I'm always on the lookout for those machines. It would also be nice to come across a valve grinding machine. 👍
