Lisa, one of the greatest! Fabulous voice voice and performance. Best version of this was the one she did with Barry White. Love love all she does. Deserves to be up there with all the greats.
She did a interview about this Apollo performance. This was her first time performing. In front of an all black audience. She was nervous because of the reputation. The Apollo crowds had for booing performers. Half way through the performance. You can see how genuine. She felt the love and start improv dancing.
I remember watching this Apollo performance by Lisa back in the day, she absolutely NAILED IT, and so did you guys with your reaction. Great channel! 👍☮️😎
Lisa Stansfield, Taylor Dayne, Christina Aguilera, and Teena Marie have those vocals that are on another level period! Great 👍🏽 performance at The Apollo! That crowd would send you home in a minute! Great reaction! I agree! ❤😎YOU WOULD LOVE “CHANGE”by her!
I’m half white and half Mexican and from the south. I knew back then if you got cheers while performing at the Apollo in Harlem. You done something. It was major.
Great song! Love this one! Thanks for reacting. Shoot if you can make it at the Apollo with a full house, everyone grooving, you got it made! Love Lisa.
Always knew she was gonna be huge. I remember as well seeing her at a World Music Awards thing in Monaco around the same time where she did a version of All Woman... jeeeeezus christ, talk about feel. Absolutely drenched in it. It was bloody amaziing.
Amazing energy between Lisa and the crowd! Channel 4 here in the UK used to show stuff from the Apollo. I remember being blown away by the amazing performances of David Peaston, which sent the crowd wild on amateur night.
@manalive1623: You can see her gratitude towards that crowd from a totally different walk of life than hers. That's the beauty of music. It doesn't have boundaries. It goes beyond race and color. This performance is living proof of that...
For a girl from Rochdale who likes the music she does to go to the famous Apollo in Harlem and get this reaction she must be chuffed to bits. Brilliant Lisa absolutely brilliant.
Great video brothers I remember watching that the night it aired. I want you find another female artist who touched the Apollo like that before the music even started. There was no super producers giving her a track or auto tuned to pitch correct or elaborate costumes, it was a woman who wrote her own song, put on something simple and stood up on that stage and moved the crowd with her voice and that song stands the test of time even in 2024. Remember the Apollo booed Lauryn Hill, her first time on that stage. LOL she caught it. What Lisa did was special, and the crowd singing every word of that song, and chanting Go Lisa, you got goosebumps listening and you wanted her to keep going, as you said she was glowing as that performance progressed. I think the only other white artist who got that respect on the Apollo stage was George Michael.
Ya’ll be talkin over the girl’s bars …bruh! Give yall credit for relaying to this generation what Showtime at the Apollo was like. I do recall a Japanese woman singin Chaka Kahn’s ballad, Through the Fire, & she got love from the moment she sang 1st few notes literally. That was back when Steve Harvey was the host. She also one the winner by applause for that night. After she won, Steve asked her, ‘Anything yu wanna say to the people?’ For a split 2nd she looked at him, like ‘huh?’ Then she said, ‘Oh uhh, arigato gohzimous’, which is thank you very much in Japanese. That girl did not speak a lick of English & she won that night. On another note, Lisa was clearly a guest artist on the set that night, so she wasn’t competing. I honestly had never heard a guest get booed. This was cool & kinda funny at the same time, cause she was singin live & so we’re her background singers but the band was playing live it was her tracks playing in the background, that’s why it faded at the end. The singin was on point though. They threw down no doubt!
See she is like me. She's probably about 5 years younger than me. I was born in Canada that grew up in England and she's englishand I say music has no color I grew up pour white trash. I could listen to the radio. We didn't have t vuntil I was. I Don'. T know 1012 years old and I listened to a lot of musiciansdidn't know, didn't care about what color we just loved the music and she is awesome. I never saw the apollovideo. But I actually met her in England should I think she's from Manchester?God bless hope you love it

Hello This Is It Reactions. Please react to Lisan Stansfield singing the song Suzanne live. It is a powerful song about a woman trying to leave an abusive relationship.
The Apollo truly was like a "job audition" - if you are good you would get a lot of loving respect and maybe some life time fans. If you were bad and floppin' around on the stage the audience would punish you for not being the real deal and wasting their time. The audience in spite of their reputation for giving their mind... would usually give a nervous performer one or even two chances... but that was it... the minute you blow it you get a lifetime worth of boos, thumbs down and the hook... off the stage.
Lisa Stanfield was heavy influenced by famous female black singers like Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, Donna Summer and others and adapted the soulful way she sings.. when she was young her mom kept playing those records that how she got the influence
Why are you guys so happy? You seemed like you might cry? Why...because there was a time when it was about inclusion and love? Seems like a world a world away now. Thanks a lot Trump.
We love Lisa in England. True Northern soul
Lisa has a massive catalogue of hits.....she's so underrated.
“Poison” live in Manchester is a definite watch
As someone who grew up going to the Apollo I can say that not many artist get that level of love from the audience.

Didn't they boo Lauren Hill offstage once? Tough, tough crowd...but when they loved you, they really loved you. Great clip.
Yeah, when she was very young
Classic! :D x
Listen to Real love
She still performs and sounds great. Her voice is a bit deeper now so the high notes aren't as high but her last album from a few years ago was fire!
You guys need to do a reaction to "Vehicle" by The Ides of March. A funky blue-eyed soul hit.

Hello This Is It Reactions. Please react to Lisan Stansfield singing the song Suzanne live. It is a powerful song about a woman trying to leave an abusive relationship.
Correction!! The Apollo Theater audience was a hell of lot tougher back in the 50s and 60s.
The Apollo truly was like a "job audition" - if you are good you would get a lot of loving respect and maybe some life time fans. If you were bad and floppin' around on the stage the audience would punish you for not being the real deal and wasting their time. Can you react to ‘The Right Time’ by Lisa Stansfield?
