- The Ossia Cadenza of Rachmaninoff's 3rd Piano Concerto is one of the most physically and technically demanding part of any piece ever written in addition to it sounding terrifying and terrorizing, yet beautiful. In typical Lang Lang fashion, he plays it perfectly.
Piece: Piano Concerto No.3 in D Minor (Ossia Cadenza)
Composer: Sergei Rachmaninoff
Performer: Lang Lang

I would burst into laughter if I ever saw this guy live doing these faces.
He plays piano extremely well (technically) and has extremely bad taste. His fans only have the bad taste.
Dude is sure having his fun
I mean if I had that much command of music this powerful I'd be freaking out while playing it too.
People usually play this as a warm up before playing Per Elise
And now again without the faces.
If Lang Lang panics when playing the piano you know it’s hard
of course it is a matter of taste whether or not you like this interpretation but this the perfect example for me of how playing something too fast ruins it entirely
I still can't bring myself to look at him and his theatrics. But without being a fan of Lang Lang, his performance here is actually very good. It wasn't just pure showoff. He actually played with a good tone with good dynamic contrasts.
The piece is not as terrorizing as Lang Lang's facial expressions.
It's true that this isn't the most demanding part of the concerto, as someone stated. But the way Lang Lang is playing here is incredible. The accellerandos and phrasing is what giving me goose bumps.
"A wide open mouth is an invitation to flies" said Mr. Sergei Rachmaninov, one summer day...
i love lang lang, but NO ONE played the end of the cadenza like horowitz. where other pianists slowed down, horowitz sped up. where other pianists' notes became blurred, horowitz achieved clarity.
That transition into the Allegro Molto at
What's terrifying is Lang Lang's posture, not the piece of music
Lang Lang attacks this cadenza like nobody else. Absolutely terrific!
Looks like Lang had a stroke.
This guy just brought the definition of 'feel the music' to a whole another level with his profound (facial)expression!
Lang Lang being him :
