DJI Flip vs Mini 4 Pro // Is Half The Price Worth The Trade-Off?

- It's inevitable the DJI Flip will be compared with the Mini 4 Pro given that it has the same camera. As a consequence, it's easy to point out where the Flip's airframe is lacking. But it's equally easy to forget that the Flip is half the price of a Mini 4 Pro. Is half price enough to make the Flip a good option?

When you put it like that, it doesn't seem to be as bad as everyone is making out.
If they'd just stuck the Flip's camera on the Neo and called it the Neo 2 Pro though, we'd all be having a very different conversation.
Yeah, the idea that it's a 'bad' drone is silly. You said it perfectly - if the conversation was how it was an upgrade on the Neo for £100 extra then everyone would be raving about it. Instead it's perceived a downgrade on the Mini 4 Pro so pointing out what it doesn't have makes it a bad drone if you forget or ignore the fact it's half the price.
Fantastic video....great discussion points for us to consider
I like it. Admittedly it has its drawbacks, but I like the design, it's super quick to deploy and seems a lot of fun.
That's a nice bit of introspection to put the Flip and potential buyers in perspective. We will be walking the Herriot Way in September, 4 days and 48 miles. Our luggage will be moved for us so we'll have just a day pack on the hike. I want to take a drone, but don't want the bulk and weight of a controller. I've looked at the limitations of flying the Flip without a controller and still think that for the hike I can achieve the footage I'm hoping to capture. I'll fly as safe as possible, avoiding the conditions that could lead to crashes.
I'm a hobbyist and not interested in spending a lot of money. Your test footage is impressive and when I'm back home and have the controller, I think it will more than meet my needs.
Thanks for your thoughts.
Hello from France 🇫🇷 and 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
The pricing in your country is so different to ours! The Flip with N3 controller and one battery costs $819! While the Neo combo with 2 batteries and the n3 controller costs $574, thats a huge difference!
Also in my country, the Flip combo with the RC2 controller is $1349, for the m4p combo with RC2 controller is $1819 or just 35% more expensive, the m4p plus combo is $1999 or 48% more expensive.
🥩🍻 Thanks! And good luck!
Thanks for pointing this out. When you deduct the cost of all the extras included in the Fly More combo, the drone itself is only $300 (CDN). The Neo alone sells for $250 here so the extra $50 for the better camera is definitely worth it. I'm sure that future firmware updates will sort out any bugs.
Yup, that's what I was getting at. Many people compare the fly more combos and say the Mini 4 Pro is only £300 more expensive. But £300 extra is a lot if you don't have it or don't want to invest £979 into a drone combo. If you can dip your toe in for £369 and get a Mini 4 Pro camera on a Flip airframe then that seems alright to me.
Great video as always, just an idea but some other RUclipsrs provide a few clips to download and tinker with, is this something you would consider doing as you get much better clips than most??
Let's try and make that happen. Appreciate the kind words!!
I’d buy one for £264! Don’t want/need a controller. I’d buy it for the AI follow me alone and the good camera.
If the Flip is the new budget drone for beginners (that people buy, play with for a bit and sell), then DJI should focus on the Mini series as proper professional tools. Many professionals prefer the Mini drones for events, because they're good enough, people aren't bothered by them and you can fly them very close to the action.
DJI can put a better camera module (1"sensor, variable aperture, etc.) and still get around the 249g limit by offering two types of battery - a smaller one with less flight time, but within 249g and a proper one for pros. So, basically: heavier drone with higher specs and smaller battery at 249g with a 'Plus' or 'Pro' battery option for normal flight times - focusing on the camera performance and not the flight time, like they always have.
Mini 4 Pro has been available for £550 from multiple retailers within past couple of months, with RC2. Flip is £550 with RC2. It isn't 55% difference unless you're comparing RRP which on the Mini 4 Pro is unrealistic at this point in its lifecycle with a little patience.
HI
When DJI sell drone only I will buy, Already have RC 2.
£239.
Thanks
100% agree also in a way not releasing a flip standalone was a bad idea but i figure they felt this would make money if they released it right away with that option. The 320 euro vs 610 euro (mini pro 4) should be the starting point in many reviews... Also the fact that most reviews come from 2 camps either the 'i already own a many bigger drones' or 'i want fpv drones' and both make a weird compare. A flying osmo3/action5pro is better way to frame it for 320 euro's is amazing.
Great summary of some of the criticisms. The results of our survey with 90% of our replies saying the drone is amazing value is certainly at odds some of the chatter out there.
@@DroneFilmGuide The sad news is that i can see why to feed the algorithms for our social media a ''you would not believe .." or "they are death because..." kind of polarisation is done and don't blame them too much but readers/viewers should also keep their own thinking cap on and not just follow. The fact you posted this helps a little but it worries me that many people will already have made up their minds in the first few days based on either left or right and not a balanced review from the middle and miss out on some great options.... But its the times we live in i guess.
@@scb2scb2 Negativity gets more clicks - we're guilty of it ourselves. Another phenomenon we're seeing is because Youtubbers are losing trust because of the temptation to shill for brands or certainly the perception that's what they are doing, we have new breed of negative, arguably over-critical commentary done with the goal of proving independence or trustworthiness when compared with the shilltubers. I totally get it but I think some take it too far the other direction. It's VERY hard to get the balance!
@@DroneFilmGuide Yes the person who can find a good algorithm to make money in news instead of polarisation that we know work very well given human nature can save the world we seem to have created for ourselves. Great you are trying anyway subbed for that reason.
If you want cheap buy the neo instead of the flip ,, if you want to save money buy the mini
Thank you for the video. What if I can have DJI Flip Fly More Combo (DJI RC 2) for 679 pounds or DJI Mini 4 Pro Fly More Combo for 874 pounds in the Czech Republic? It a 8,5% difference. I am advanced amateur photographer and cameraman, I have DJI Neo only but I used to be a pilot of RC sport helicopters. What do you recommend? I can not decide. Money is not my primary problem but it is important, I agree. 🤔
Hey! If you have the budget then the Mini 4 Pro wins all day long. It's a better drone. I particularly like how quiet it is. The camera is technically the same but you also get 10-bit HLG. Focus Track is much better and the omnidirectional obstacle avoidance is fantastic to have.
@@DroneFilmGuide Thanks, I have to think about it. DJI Care is much more expensive too for the Mini 4 Pro. Also DJI has on their web site Guaranteed software updates until 2026/12/31. It seems a long time but is it?
if this could be flown in fpv mode i would have overlooked all its flaws. alas. not buying this
