I have made indie feature films and music videos for over 15 years (I started back when 4k was really only available to movie studios or to really big budget projects)- so many people forget about Lighting, shot composition, framing, using 2 cameras to cut seamlessly between angles in a scene etc etc that make their work "look cinematic".... BUT as I am in the market for some new gear, I have noticed that there are TONS of Red Komodos for sale on Ebay and other places and there are TONS of other Reds at very reduced prices for sale that it takes a long time to even look at them all....BUT at the same time, there are very very few people Re-selling their Canon Cinema Camera line cameras like the c70 (a direct Komodo competitor)or the c500 mkii or c300 mkiii etc.....makes me nervous about buying a Red rather than renting it for a project...
If you’re a cinematographer (rather than a videographer) and you have 15 years of experience as a filmmaker and DP’ing music videos, buy the Komodo with confidence. I had the same reservations knowing I was going to drop $10k (rigged) on the camera. I did it, and have never looked back. REDCode Raw is a dream to work with and man, that global shutter :)
I loved the z cam video but this video doesn’t make so much sense. The Komodo is just a camera. It can be used out of the box no problem. Its third party support can build it out with a pro one person set up and its simply designed to shoot moving images and not as a hybrid camera so everything in the menus matters and no scrolling through endless irrelevance. Even compared to canon or sony cine cameras these red menus are aimed at the industry standard professional camera operator. Many people bought them without a clue about how the red raw workflow works but it’s hardly rocket science. Not sure how a dslr doesnt need everything that the Komodo does ie better audio, wireless etc that you mentioned. If anyone has ever used an actual film camera they would know why simplicity is key. It really doesn’t need to be that complicated. Thx for the video.
People say that but go look at all of the other newish popular cameras, there's just as many FX6's, FX3's as7iii's, C70's and R5's being sold - people in this price bracket are constantly switching systems and trying new cool stuff, I think it will always be like that. I shoot solo doc style stuff with the Komodo all the time, you just need to rig it appropriately and be competent in manual focusing + exposing correctly. But now that the Komodo X is coming out, you will see some folks trade up for that. Either way the Komodo is one of the funnest cameras I've ever used, super cool little device
I can’t wait for all these cheap Komodo’s baby. With hundreds about to be on sale, ain’t no one getting anywhere near 5k$ if you are selling and think you will… GL
I mean I’d say wrong . Coloring red is so much easier! Also it’s totally capable of being a one man band what are they talking about u don’t need a team for this camera lol
Gents while some of this is true, it’s mainly because they’re upgrading to the new kid on the block.

was thinking the same things
I love everything I ever shot on a komodo, it’s a dope cinema camera.
Little late to the party guys. People are selling because the Komodo X was announced. There’s always a mass sell off when the next gen is announced
Because there's a Komodo X coming?
There is a strange reverb or interference in the audio. Do you possibly have two mics active at the same time?

there is a new Komodo already announced
“Maybe a bigger, maybe an 8k…” yeah it’s called the raptor 😆
I think the red raven was the first budget cinema camera under 10k.
Would you ever do a tech Tuesday on the Arri Trinity?
I'm excited for the Komodo X

Love the Komodo! Excited to see what they put out next.
unless your making movies you don't need a red!
A little outdated on the drop. Komodo X is on the way. I wish I could find a used one at an affordable price.
Love the topic. But your audio is phasing a bit.
Because Sony FX6 is so good that RED is about to release a whole new Komodo with xlr ports and hand grip module 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
You a memphis filmmaker?
