Cynthia Carmina Gomez, a futurist and Director of Community Impact at Portland State University, says we each need to reflect on our past and future selves to understand how our life has changed - and how it will continue to evolve.
FMRI studies show we tend to view our future selves as strangers! This disconnects us emotionally from our own future and blocks us from effective planning.
The solution? Make an intentional practice of envisioning yourself in the future. This helps you grasp the implications of your choices and actions.
Through a blend of personal narrative, scientific insights, and participatory exercises, Cynthia challenges us to claim our roles as architects of the future.
She advocates for a more inclusive approach to future-building that incorporates diverse perspectives and experiences.
It’s about recognizing and valuing the unique insights and contributions that different communities - and we ourselves - bring to the table in envisioning and creating a shared, desirable future for all.
