- The Barr Brothers close out their June 7, 2019 live show at The Independent in San Francisco, California with a cover of Neil Young's "Don't Let It Bring You Down." This cover song is unreleased; it doesn't appear on any of The Barr Brothers' records. The original appeared on the 1970 Neil Young album After The Gold Rush and the 1971 Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young live album 4 Way Street. This was the third and final night of The Barr Brothers' "Album Nightly" stint at The Independent, where they played a different album in its entirety each night.
The Barr Brothers are Brad Barr (lead vocals and guitar) and Andrew Barr (drums). Joining them were Eveline Gregoire-Rousseau (harp), Morgan Moore (bass), Brett Lanier (pedal steel guitar), and Elizabeth Powell (backing vocals) from the band Land Of Talk. Founding member Sarah Pagé (harp) still records with The Barr Brothers, but stopped touring last year. The band was founded and is based in Montréal, Québec; Brad and Andrew Barr moved there from their hometown of Providence, Rhode Island 15 years ago.
Don't Let It Bring You Down lyrics:
Old man lying by the side of the road
With the lorries rolling by
Blue moon sinking from the weight of the load
And the buildings scrape the sky
Cold wind ripping down the alley at dawn
And the morning paper flies
Dead man lying by the side of the road
With the daylight in his eyes
Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning
Find someone who's turning
And you will come around
Blind man running through the light of the night
With an answer in his hand
Come on down to the river of sight
And you can really understand
Red lights flashing through the window in the rain
Can you hear the sirens moan?
White cane lying in a gutter in the lane
If you're walking home alone
Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning
Find someone who's turning
And you will come around
Don't let it bring you down
It's only castles burning
Just find someone who's turning
And you will come around
