Heh, I have an old Treasury-sized version of that Action Comics #1 (originally came out in 1974). The inner cover is gone, but the stockier outer cover and the innards are all there. Wouldn't be surprised if my mother read it when she was a kid. She never told me she had, but when I showed her the cover of a reprint I had of Marvel Comics #1, from late 1939, she remembered reading that because it had her favorite comic character in it (Submariner, who was on a vendetta against the US at the time :). She explained (when I told her they were going for quite a bit of change ) how many of the comics at the time went to paper drives during the war, and also some were sent to the guys fighting overseas. V for Victory, you know.
For reference, stackable green tiki cups were very popular in America in the 70's, and most thrift stores or flea markets will have a set collecting dust somewhere. I've always thought they were pretty cool, and doing a TMNT set is a brilliant idea.
A chicken and a frog walked through a library. The chicken said "Book, book, bookbook". The frog said "Readit, readit, readitreadit". I'll get me coat.
Still not a fan of these lootcrates and will never buy one but at least this crate seems to actually have some quality stuff in it. Bonus points for having no bloody figures with large heads or pins that are absolute garbage
Well yeah, it's a load of clearance/discontinued tat thrown in a box and sold for 10x what it cost them. I never understood why it was called "lootcrate" anyway. It's not exactly looting if you have to pay for it.
I'm impressed they included the full reprint of Action #1. Most of the reprints I've seen only have the Superman story and omit the secondary features and the ads.
The shield and Action Comics #1 reprint are actually pretty nice items, not sure I'd want them in a big blind bag, but had I opened that box, I would not have been too disappointed.
TMNT shot glasses?? my the market has matured. now you can slamm t'Quila or Jack when you're scarfing pizza dude!!! that's totally tubuloso dude!! pour me a slice !!
I thought that the tiki bar fad was over, but I like it that they're making stackable tiki-drink mugs that also look like TMNT characters. Actually they're pretty good at being both.
I agree that there felt like there should have been one more thing in the box but the items inside were neat specially the comic, I also liked that the box was made to turn into something functional instead of just the usual turn inside out deal.
Many factors: Disposable Income + Sense of purpose waiting for something + Fear to go outside + Vinyl Pop whatever + "Exclusive" Items For some many of these factors apply which is why they have a subscription. Other people who don't buy these find a better and more cost effective way to get tat they want.
See... a long time ago, Stuart's mommy and daddy (who love each other very much) got together and gave each other a "special hug." 13 months later, Ashens popped out of his mommy's hoo-ha, and proceeded to call everything "tat."
There are many adult superheroes; should a child be reading about The Punisher? Seriously, there are lots of more mature comics and media with superheroes; look at the recent Deadpool movie, which was rated R. Look at those popular Bat Man movies. What world do you live in where superheroes are a child only thing?
There was chameleon on that list of things to buy. Would they actually send you a chameleon because I feel like you would just end up with a dead lizard in a box.
Yes. Yes he is. He was also on "Young Justice". He does have a point though in that the character hasn't really been very active in a long time but's always a fun bit of trivia that he first appeared in the same comic as Superman. :)
Frank Schneider Well, in present day yes but he has appeared in flashback stories and stories set in his time, now and again, and given that he's a magician he could always time travel or show up as a spirit. As I said he was a recurring character in "Young Justice" because, in their world, he was an active character in modern day and Zatanna was a teenager.
Chris McWilliams Never knew about that, and certainly have never seen a teenage Zatanna in my life (I would probably recall), but to be honest I already find it kind of rather disturbing me "knowing" that Zartara would be Zatannas dad and that he is dead. I wonder what other unhealthy things might also be stored in my head without me being aware of it. Well, I guess that's why I visit the channel of Dr. Ashen regularly.
Frank Schneider It is odd because while Zatanna has more exposure she's still not a major character (other than her time with the Justice League, but even then it was, as I recall, during a time when they a ton of members) so knowing her backstory and details of her family history is odd. Yeah, young Zatanna joins Young Justice off and on (against her father's wishes) and he's depicted as being a member of Justice League until he ends up becoming the new Dr Fate. Of course this is all just the Young Justice animated series.
I mean there's a reason it's the Old-school shield rather than the more modern round one... it's the Origins box after all, so it'd not be his contemporary shield that would be present in the box XD
That sticky-mitt simson strip shares a great resemblance with Bud Sagendorf's popeye comics in some parts. Also a great loot crate this month its better like stuard saying having fewer and better stuff than allot and shity ones.
This crate actually looked pretty good. Like Ashens I really like enamelled things, they're so glossy and colourful, plus the panels are very well-defined. I find the look really effective.
Me, personally, I loved this box. What people don't understand about these boxes is that they're not supposed to be enjoyed. It's not just a box, it's an experience.
The Donatello tiki thing reminds me of a shot glass, also I was surprised to see that jujitsu add with the guy doing osoto gari on the back of the comic.
If the tikis don't have equal weight on all sides and have bases narrower than the actual design isn't it a bad idea to stack them as they'd be bound to topple over and since they're ceramic they'll shatter?
Here's my theory. Lootcrate is only this good this time because it's the beginning of the year. People will have been gifted subscriptions to lootcrate for xmas and this'll be the first one they receive, so Lootcrate wanted to pull out all the stops. I bet by next month it'll be full of useless tat and an inflatable tiara.
Crazy Diamond After a year, I realize I've spend $300 on it, and have gotten approximately 3 t-shirts, 8 manga, 2 figures, and infinite amount of random stuff thrown into my closet.
Thus why I will never subscribe to one of these boxes. For that same amount of money you could have purchased a few high quality figures from your favorite anime made by a company like Alter or Good Smile Company. They're something worth having on your shelf, and you could even resell for a decent amount at a later date if you wanted.
Oh wow, I know this isn't it very original but this is the first time in an Ashens video where it's under 1000 views and it has very few comments. Nonetheless the Jumpman shirt and the Action Comics no. 1. Especially the comic, it's nice to see what the first comic is like.
Raiden Chu What the heck!? This Ashens Lootcrate unboxing has no potshot towards the okay at best and mediocre at worst DC comics movies!? I don't I would hate this video... and I've never been so wrong!
"1940's captain america" shield and the first thing in the box you see, is "the 1st avenger" movie goodie. I'm totally in the mood for typically 1940 stuff now... Well done.
8:48 "Where's My Spy Camera, Where's My Spy Camera, Where's My Spy Camera?!" I hope the death threat thing was a joke, but knowing the internet, its probably not.
Yogensha Yeah. He was playing with his LIFE.
Karol Zagromski How old are you?
Karol Zagromski That isn't a death threat.
FancyLlamas well yeah but if left untreated he could loose severe amounts of blood and die
Nate1829 bout did you just assume I have an Age?
"Loot crate exclusive, collect them all". A sense it does not make.
Buy 5 lootcrates i suppose but you may aswell burn your money it would be of more use that way
I was wondering about that too. Maybe only Donatello is exclusive? That or they're trying to take advantage of the reseller market.
you can buy the rest individually from LootCrate
@@TheLastPhoen1x real life battle royale
This is, literally, my favorite RUclips channel.
It's only figuratively mine.
Yeah, I only symbolically love this channel.
I kind of like this channel a bit
Corvyn Malfoy my top 5 for sure
Ashens is my 3rd favorite youtuber.

I think you could do shots out of the ceramic ninja turtle.
Looks like there's a hole in the bottom.
Look at 3:05. Bottom looks pretty solid.
Oh yeah. Sorry.
I wouldn't trust the paint tbh. Lead poisoning is a bitch
If its glazed it should be glas i cant think of any lead based glaze which is still beeing used.

You are correct, it is missing something. That something being an inflatable crown.
It's not exactly looting if you have to pay for it.
you're the one that gets looted.
I think it's meant like the items are loot.
+Chris “Libra113” McWilliams you missed the joke
Jamie Miller Yeah, I got it the second time. My bad. :)
I'm impressed they included the full reprint of Action #1. Most of the reprints I've seen only have the Superman story and omit the secondary features and the ads.
'There's some words in an order,' may be my favourite thing I've ever heard you say.
Sticky-Mitt reminds me of Wimpy.
RIXRADvidz 😂😂😂
RIXRADvidz Extremely underrated comment.
He still hasn't seemed to notice that the pin always comes with a code for a digital item as well.
The word crate always makes me imagine a large wooden chest stuffed with things, not a small cardboard box
Wow Ashens liking everything in a LootCrate?
That is a rare thing to behold.
I thought that the tiki bar fad was over, but I like it that they're making stackable tiki-drink mugs that also look like TMNT characters. Actually they're pretty good at being both.
Bloody hell... we are still doing these!
I agree that there felt like there should have been one more thing in the box but the items inside were neat specially the comic, I also liked that the box was made to turn into something functional instead of just the usual turn inside out deal.
The original? All I see is the Dad of Grand.
Leni Hates Everything
fleenstones?!
Truly, he is the Grandest of Dads.
This is the closest you'll ever get to official Grand Dad merchandise.
Ashens should join the Nerd Crew.
Me, personally, I love The Nerd Crew.
I give them an 11 out of 10.
I would agree, but, it is an exclusive crew, exclusive to the internet, exclusively available to an exclusive group of people.
The vistas of ashens are just incredible
That's like suggesting Dr. Doom should join the seven dwarfs.
Why do these things exist?
Rusty Shackleford for the same reason your extermination business still exists
Mark W Lütcrate isn't comedic.

rareblues78daddy they say his very first word was "m-mo-mo-more tat"
We have entered a horrible existence if a supehero product is aimed at "adults only" and not children.

9:20 When Ashen's say "Done away" on the bottom right a small drop of spit can be seen hitting the pin bag... Good job there mate
Bloody hell, are we still doing these?
zatara is zatana's dad
Yes. Yes he is. He was also on "Young Justice". He does have a point though in that the character hasn't really been very active in a long time but's always a fun bit of trivia that he first appeared in the same comic as Superman. :)
I'm not too sure but isn't' the character so inactive, because he is so dead ?
Kinda the DC Gwen Stacey.

Why did ashens delete his first loot crate video 3 years ago?
Andy Ake idk
Anthony Heil thank you for that incredibly useful (and in no way useless) comment
Andy Ake thank you for that incredibly useful (and in no way useless) bit of sarcasm
TechEZC thank you for that incredibly useful (and in no way useless) opinion on Andy Ake's usage of sarcasm
Me, personally, I loved Anthony Heil's comment.
I cant understand the fascination with loot crate and the like but love your vids about them
That Donatello "tiki" is basically how they got away with selling official TMNT shot glasses innit?
That sticky-mitt simson strip shares a great resemblance with Bud Sagendorf's popeye comics in some parts. Also a great loot crate this month its better like stuard saying having fewer and better stuff than allot and shity ones.
This crate actually looked pretty good. Like Ashens I really like enamelled things, they're so glossy and colourful, plus the panels are very well-defined. I find the look really effective.
I had almost forgotten about the inflatable crowns. Thanks for reminding me
I wonder if ashens will do a Geek Crate or Nerd Box unboxing video.
no nerd box or geek crate unboxing?
Graeme Evans no, just like he explained.
i acknowledge your RLM reference
Its exclusively exclusive so exclusive in fact it was excluded from this video
Me, personally, I loved this box. What people don't understand about these boxes is that they're not supposed to be enjoyed. It's not just a box, it's an experience.
i actually did not know Zatara and Tigress were such old characters. that's really amazing.
"Its a sex toy! No its, not". Well... I am sure you can get creative with that shield. ;)
I'm glad they started to up the quality of the items in these. Got the animeme LootCrate for November and I was quite happy with what I got.
These aren't as good now the Loot Crates actually have good things in them.
WildKatGirl Well at least they listened.
Ali Abbas Getting crap these days? As opposed to the days where you had a fucking inflatable fucking crown, shoe laces and a shit pin?
and now they're bankrupt
The Captain America shield is the best thing I've seen in there for many months
Me personally, I loved this unboxing, some amazing vistas.
Scoop? That's like an ice cream man named Cone.
Johnny Sack or an ice cream man also named Scoop
The Donatello tiki thing reminds me of a shot glass, also I was surprised to see that jujitsu add with the guy doing osoto gari on the back of the comic.
If the tikis don't have equal weight on all sides and have bases narrower than the actual design isn't it a bad idea to stack them as they'd be bound to topple over and since they're ceramic they'll shatter?
George Sears Thats why there are only 2 of them stacked at the picture on the side
for 5 minutes, this would fill the hole in my soul
GRAND DAD!? FLEENTSTONES!?
Fucking memes, ruining everything. Look, 7 Grand Dad was never funny, never will be, and also THAT IS CLEARLY JUMPMAN! 7 Grand Dad has way more pink.
Woah, I had no idea Zatara debuted in the same issue Superman did. I always assumed he cropped up in the Silver Age.
hi ashens I love your vids your my fav youtuber and I watch you always make me laugh lol
an ashens video this early? hot damn, that's special
His mind was blown away.
So that turtle thing is just an ashtray waiting to happen. I was gonna sign up for lootcrate til I started watching your channel. Cheers, mate.
the captain America shield seems similar to a us military flight officer's emblem. all it needs is wings behind it.
You really need to get Nerd Box and/or Geek Crate
I love that shield, and it's the right size for the 1:6 Action Figures
1/6 scale is Action Man size, if you were wondering.
I remember discovering ashens like 3 years ago and watched the living shit out of his videos. I just remembered he existed and I'm so glad I did.
The frog bookmark is the best item!
Why is he just so funny
2:50 Tomlinson or Nerdcubed?
Here's my theory. Lootcrate is only this good this time because it's the beginning of the year. People will have been gifted subscriptions to lootcrate for xmas and this'll be the first one they receive, so Lootcrate wanted to pull out all the stops. I found the Captain America shield for 15$ in some Comic Shop with the „lootcrate exclusive“ sign on the Box... well
That's a cool t-shirt, I got one very similar to that from K-mart here in Australian and picked up another Mario and Donkey Kong shirt.
Ahhaaaaa.......Ashens will end up doing his own style of Nostalgic Loot Crate. Fair play mate!!
This ninja turtle will be an awesome ash tray
I wonder if you can use that porcelain turtles tiki as an eggcup? something i might actually want from a lootcrate.... amazing.
The leather bookmark was my fave item.
I like that ninja turtle cup Id fill it with cigarette buds, it just has that kind a look to it
Imagine if they stuck in a real Action Comics #1 in some random box, but the person opening it thought it was just a reprint lol
Just cancelled Loot Anime like 10 seconds ago.
Tallen Smith y?
Crazy Diamond After a year, I realize I've spend $300 on it, and have gotten approximately 3 t-shirts, 8 manga, 2 figures, and infinite amount of random stuff thrown into my closet.
Tallen Smith ok.

gigan22 Yup. And I have realized it too. Unfortunately I realized it a year too late.
That Tiki Turtle would make a really nice candle holder.
I feel like the way Ashens got his name was because he was learning about the destruction of Athens and was like "Athens? More like ASHens!"
Collect them all it said on the box. And it's a loot crate exclusive. I doubt many will.
I'm considering going to the MCM London comic con but I don't know if it is the October show that Stuart is going to!
God, I love Nerd Box. For five minutes, I forgot about the dark hole in my soul.
Oh wow, I know this isn't it very original but this is the first time in an Ashens video where it's under 1000 views and it has very few comments.

Raiden Chu What the heck!? This Ashens Lootcrate unboxing has no potshot towards the okay at best and mediocre at worst DC comics movies!? I don't I would hate this video... and I've never been so wrong!
Wow this loot crate was probably the best one
Lootcrate was actually mentioned in the Radiotimes.
"1940's captain america" shield and the first thing in the box you see, is "the 1st avenger" movie goodie.
I'm totally in the mood for typically 1940 stuff now...
Well done.
wasn't there a lego set that portrayed the action comics 1 cover?
Yeah, a San Diego Comic Con exclusive.
Great video but you didn't build the box?
I heard 'oranges' as the theme, and was momentarily disappointed when it wasn't about oranges. It sounds like a fun mix-em-up.
Well. The re-print is a nice touch.
Ashens, in Scotland a drain is called a stank.
Well you'll never forget that now.
My mum would buy your bookmark crate, she reads a fuck ton of books and loves custom bookmarks.
Daniel you disgust me
+Daniel This comment actually sent a shiver down my spine...
+HaydenX
And even worse, there is a slim chance that he really does what he says. Others even burn books.
8:48 "Where's My Spy Camera, Where's My Spy Camera, Where's My Spy Camera?!" Seriously, this reproduction comic a pretty cool thing to come out of LootCrate despite me not really doing the subscription box thing. Also, what's with everyone having a damn nickname in the 30's (outsideof Scoop of course)?!
Where is my Avengers Vienna Sausage?
Where's my -Jill Holtzman- Rey action figure?
The Geeki Tiki look more ike parts of a totem pole. Could you use it as a shot glass?
It'd be nice if you did all the alternative loot crates like gaming, anime, etc. too. I'm curious about them but not enough to buy one.
no funko pop makes this one the best lootcrate without question
Plot twist - the comic wasn't a reprint but a perfectly preserved original copy
it's thinker because of the extra stories as well
Genuine question - what discount shops are stocking loot crate exclusives? I want to keep an eye out for these...
"Foot for what?"
Foot for thought of course!
*ba dum psh*
Thank you! I'm here all week!
I was never actually aware that Action Comics #1 featured things besides Superman. I knew that the original idea of the series was many different stories, but I'd never seen the contents of issue 1 for confirmation of that concept.
