It’s been said a million times. I’ll add my vote. Mick Taylor’s playing with the Stones was unrepeatable and pure magic. Someone else already said it - Mr. Taylor became a member of a band that was right on the edge of true jaw-dropping greatness, and pushed them over to that level for six never-to-be-recaptured years.
@Bob Leton Clapton was in quality the fourth or fifth member of John Mayall, the number one the Great Peter Green of course, second Mick Taylor, third Buddy Whittington. With all due respect is my opinion. Greetings Bob. ✌️
I feel like his playing goes straight to the emotional parts of the brain. You **feel** his playing as much or more than you **hear** it - I can't exactly explain it. Also no doubt that the MT period was associated with some great compositions including this one - MT says that he wasn't given proper writing credit - we'll probably never know for sure there but between his playing and the great songs that he could improvise to - you get the quality like you hear here.
With the Bluesbreakers in '66-68 Mick was a pure bluesman and carried that band. With the Stones he got to play on some of the best blues rock songs ever written and he benefitted from the new dimension, and the Stones got back to their blues roots with Mick Taylor.
Mick Taylor's playing always moves me, it has this emotional vibe to it. Such a pure musician. When Taylor left the Stones, the magic was gone in my humble opinion.
God bless Mick Taylor. Easily the best, most melodic and inventive guitar player of his generation. Absolutely incendiary. I put him in the same category as Miles Davis and Coltrane. And no, that is not a joke.
You I believe are correct. He was so good. He really was. Didn't he replace Eric Clapton ? I think he was involved with that band. And then u have the yardbirds. Wow. In this video as it shows pictures it shows Hendrix and Mick Taylor backstage somewhere. I remember Brian Jones and Hendrix were thinking about starting a band. I will say what an Era!! Nothing like it. The music the bands !! Thank God for recordings !!!!
1969-1974, glad i was young enough and old enough to have had Mick Taylor influence my musical choices. Those years with 'The Greatest Band In The World' will live forever in my soul !
his music , his improvisation is like a kalaidoscope, full of new shapes, feelings, sensations and colours that never repeat...a wizzard with a guitar in his hand!
Just beautiful...After a minute had to pause this and pick up my guitar.... couple of minutes later had to pause again and pour me a drink.. :) Words can't describe how his playing makes me feel. Fortunate to have seen him solo a while back. Cheers to all and to @kleermaker1000 for sharing.
I like Ronnie Wood's contribution to the Stones music, but Mick Taylor's departure in the 70-ies (whatever Keith Richards writes and says about it) was and still is a huge loss for the band. When I saw him play live with them in December last year (I saw it on youtube), my concern was only confirmed. The man is great, hats off!
I agree with what everyone is saying about Mick Taylor. Best Stones player ever. I miss him in the band. But... do you think their producer Jimmy Miller is to been given a lot of credit for the amazing performances by Mick Taylor? I think so. No sloppy playing at all on any of the Stones records. Tight guitar solos on the Stones records - every note is brilliant. Thanks Jimmy Miller... for getting the best out of Mick Taylor.
The Jimmy Miller produced Stones albums were the best ever. With Taylor on guitar, sublime too. The Stones still move me at 67 & still love playing live. RIP, dear Charlie.❤️
Love The Stones always have, but I'll say this. having Mick Taylor in the band was the only thing that gave their claim to being the "Greatest rock and roll band in the world" and validity. Didn't stay around nearly long enough too bad for The Stones and too bad for those of us who appreciated his talents
He didn't stay because of how he was treated. Clapton begged him not to join the Stones and he did anyway. He carried the load musically when he was there, and got paid next to nothing. He lived the life, he just never saw any real serious money. He ate and drank and well. He got any woman he wanted. He was promised songwriting credits for songs like Sway,Moonlight Mile, Waiting on a Friend and others for which he was later told no. When he joined the Stones he was a very health conscious vegetarian. When he left he was a heroin addict. He is still owed millions of dollars by the Stones which he will never see. No way to treat someone.

@Larry Noletti I am not aware of any book written by Taylor, but his song credits should have been Sway,Moonlight Mile, Time Waits For No One & others. He never got paid like you claim either. Mick & Keith did the same thing with Bobby Keys also. They never paid him but he got to live the life so he stuck around. Jagger and Richards are notorious for being cheap and stingy. This "World's Greatest Rock and Roll Band has been a bunch of baloney for years now. They've become the one thing Jagger swore they never would in the 70s. They've become their own tribute band. To me the Stones will always be Brian's band. He named the group. He got the gigs. He enlisted each member. He hired Mick and Keith. He taught Jagger to play harmonica and taught Richards to play guitar as Keith knew exactly 3 chords when he was asked to join. Therefore he literally sat at Brian's feet and learned to play riffs and chord progressions. Now Brian wasn't perfect by any stretch and Charlie said though he got better with time, Brian wasn't a very nice person. However he still should have been treated better. The Stones need to hang it up, they're becoming caricatures of them selves. Mick said back in '76 that he won't be out there when he's 45 yrs old singing "Satisfaction ". Uhhhh no Mick. You'll be 75!
