  • I always wished in hygiene school I could just see someone scale start to finish so here it is.
    NOTES
    *We wanted to keep the video short for viewing purposes feel free to take a little longer. The average time to scale a patients teeth is 20 mins. therefore some patients will take a little more time and some a little less.
    *I had an instructor once tell me, "take no more than 5 proficient strokes per surface."
    *Proficient means add lateral pressure, adapt for comfort, remove the calc/biofilm, and DON'T skip a surface.
    *The patient in this video had very very light calculus based on the fact that she had already been the patient for other videos.
    *With this in mind we hope you take away something helpful from the video even if you do it a little bit different.

    My personal technique is to use more of an exploratory stroke while going through. It sounds like a lot of scaling on every tooth which may not be necessary.

    Hands down the BEST videos! I'm almost coming to an end of my 3rd semester and was struggling finding a sequence but this video is everything! Thank you!!

    I've been out of school for a couple years. I still don't feel proficient scaling by hand. I dropped into a 20 min/40 min hygiene job. I'm more comfortable with the ultrasonic. I have really enjoyed watching these videos. I feel a refresher course is nice; plus, you teach me awesome tricks. Thanks so much for boosting my confidence!! Cheryl

    Is it hard on your neck and back? I am really interested because it seems satisfying for some reason and pay is decent and you educate patients but my neck is already in pain ... could you plz answer ?

    • @andreasharber1747
      @andreasharber1747 7 лет назад +9

      Yes it is hard on your body physically. If you use correct ergonomics and take good care of yourself, that makes all the difference and will prolong your career.

    • @alliedarky
      @alliedarky 7 лет назад +4

      Riya Gill dental hygiene is definitely a career notorious for causing neck and back pain, but in school they teach you proper ergonomics so that you aren't straining you're body in ways you shouldn't. Many also see physical therapists to help with pain they may have and keeping up to date with the newest materials and instruments can also be helpful so that you aren't working with instruments that are old or a seat that sucks or even a outdated dental chair.

      +Sandra Rogers We are using the H5/6 for the posteriors, and the anterior 6/7 for the anteriors.

      If your patients like/tolerate it, that’s fine and better for your wrist as long as you check for residual at the end.
