Later in the episode you realize everything was paid for by Del, groceries, electricity, mortgage, even Rodney’s stupid magazines. so yeah when Del takes more money for himself, it is because he knows Rodney will do something stupid like buy broken lawn mower engines twice😂

The underlying plot of this episode is a key moment in the overall story of the show. Rodney is no mug, he's got GCE's. But he's also no fighter, the harsh world of survival that the Trotters live in would eat him alive. Del never actually lets Rodney fight his own battle, after breaking up the partnership. He has his back all the way. But he shows him what people are capable of, and how Rodney just isn't equipped to handle it. Del stitching him up with those lawnmower engines is for Rodney's benefit. Del keeps the money in the family with that sale, and he ultimately knows that it'll come back to Rodney once he realises where his bread is buttered and re-joins the fold. And when Del refuses to let Rodney have any of his food without paying his way upfront, it's all a lesson of how the world works. He can have double egg and chips when he pays double housekeeping money. When you go it alone, you live or die by your own actions. Del is the best thing Rodney has ever had in his life. And he soon comes to realise it. He may feel trapped, but there are far worse places to be trapped in. Being trapped with a friend is better than being trapped by yourself.
Rodney was better educated than Del, but Del was street smart and Rodders wasn't.

When the BBC and British comedy was great and come to think of it so was other shows on other channels back in the day but now it's crap beyond crap and pathetic licence goons banging on my door when I'm never gonna watch all the crap put out nowadays

there's a live audience but I think there's a bit of canned as well ?
British sitcoms have pretty much never used canned laughter. That's an American thing. The studio scenes are filmed before a live studio audience and the scenes on location are played for the studio audience so the laughter track can be recorded.
@@joycegibbs5267The laughter track was probably edited a bit, perhaps with the laughter from the first take used with a subsequent take or a different length laugh taken from elsewhere in the recording to get the timing right, but I don't think there would have been much, if any, canned laughter.

In this very episode they had to severely edit down the reaction to Granddad's 'Wot, you got a Wendy House?' remark because it brought down the house. David Jason even said it became the benchmark with them all hoping to get a bigger laugh from the audience than that gag.
The same thing happened in Red Dwarf series 10 when Jesus appeared. The original audience laugh broke the scene because it was huge and just went on and on. Way back in series 4, the Polymorph got a similar reaction though they did their best to preserve the audience reaction because they thought the fans who weren't there should share the experience.
