when rodders is physically describing how short mr ram was and dell chimes in pushing his head down "he was smaller than that, werent he, get down there" haahahahahahahahahhahahahah
Yeah brilliant 😂😂😂 get down there
😂😂
The restaurant owner is hilarious. One of my favourite minor characters. I love the way he mocks Rodney's hand gestures also the line, "it's amazing what you can save when you shop around".
@sofaking wetoddid which makes him a minor character...
his is british born pakistani actor.he has been in a lot of comedys like it aint half hot mom
Yeah, I agree. There's a lot of small, pop-up characters in OFAH that give a great performance.
@@R.W.S. Abdul wasmy fav from to hull and back !! Wish he stayed on as a semi regular character!!
Glad you said that
The lip quiver when he says “f-f-f-fibbin “ is perfect. Shock, fear and anger all in one
Dale McMahon also a shoot the messenger kind of think, mimicking the guy
Whilst clearly not preachy, there's an anti-bigotry message here, right in the first season which I happily point out to anyone who claims the show is racist. It's a message which far outweighs the rare use of racial slurs in the show.
"I'm sorry, you all look the same to me"
Fantastic writing by John to take a racist trope and completely reverse it to great comedic effect.
And then you watch the clip where Del is horrified when he thinks Rodney is on the phone with Mickey Pierce being all lovey, the line "there's neve been anything like (looks in disgust) that in our family", and the anti-bigotry idea evaporates.
The point you should make is the day when people, regardless of who they are or how they look can make jokes about others who are different from them and everyone takes it in good spirits is the day bigotry/racism dies. Shows like this aren't at fault, it's the massively overly sensitive generation we have now who feed off of pointing out literally anything they can as some sort of -ist, -ism or -phobic thing so they can appear like pillars of virtue, when in actuality they don't actually help anyone, only piss off people who can take a joke without being offended and then call those people one of the buzzwords like racist or bigot so they think they have a perpetual enemy that they are valiantly fighting against. It's the same cycle of supply and demand that businesses use.
@@nervesconcord Are you part of a marginalised group; BAME, LGBTQ etc ? If not then your opinion is entirely invalid. It honestly takes some braindead nerve to sit back as a straight, white man and tell people who have always been and are still persecuted because of the colour of their skin or sexuality that they should just "take a joke". Not only that, it's actually THEIR fault bigotry is still alive, because how dare they be insulted by it. Ridiculous.
@@Snowenj So you are advocating that a person's opinion should be invalidated because of the colour of their skin or their sexual orientation? That is the literal definition of bigotry.
I didn't say it's people who are persecuted for the colour of their skin or their sexuality that need to take a joke, in fact, if you understood my comment you would realise that I'm saying everyone does, but that the biggest culprits are mildly educated white liberals who need to take a joke and stop thinking that those people they claim to be speaking on the behalf of are so inferior that they need white liberals to stand up for them. I would go as far to say that woke white folk are the ones keeping racism and bigotry alive because without it to crusade for they would have literally nothing to use as a way of making themselves feel useful. We actually got to this point in the late 90s/early 2000s, then all the organisations that crusade for these causes realised that without anything to crusade for they would have nothing else left to do, no more money to be given, so at a time when things had never been better they started saying that things had never been worse, and started targeting anything they could no matter how minor, which in turn lead us to the overly-sensitive generation we have now who call things -ism or -phobic because to them almost everything is -ism or -phobic.
But anyway, I'm not surprised you assumed I was talking about people of a different skin colour or sexuality than myself, people like you who see the people of the world as a skin colour or an orientation rather than individuals with different experiences and attitudes don't know how to see the people of the world in any other way, and I pity you.
So true
They were different times. It was harmless banter. Speaking as a mixed person, I think people take themselves far too seriously these days and are offended by very trivial things. It's always choice if you want to be offended or not. It's annoying when people compare old TV programs by today's standards.
how could this video leave out the best line which would be heard 10 seconds later "as macbeth said to hamlet in a midsummer nights dream weve been done up like a couple of kippers"
Neal McCullough o
Neal McCullough what makes it worse is the poxy advert at the intro
copyright issues?
Don't fret about it, Neal. Don't take it so seriously. There are more important things to worry about!
Haha what a line
"I'm sorry, you all look alike to me" - what a line!!! Come on, people, is not about correctness, it's just a joke, a very good one!
I agree, very funny line, some of the pc brigade wouldn’t agree though🤣
The line doesn't matter to the PC brigade when it's directed at whites.
@@gameofthrows9357 It's lost on you that the joke is that white people always say that to Indians.

It's amazing what you can save when you shop around
😀😁😂😃😄😅
it's funny cause on amazon you can occasionally see stupid stuff like a second hand dvd listed at 2 grand.
" it's amazing what you can save if you shop around" 😂😂😂
“If this idiot wants anything else, tell him the kitchens closed”
“And that is twice John”😂
Only fools is the best still makes me piss myself ..John Sullivan was something special and the cast is well priceless ..a timeless classic .always cheers me up when I’m down
Omg. Del at 00:30 walking in like he's on top of the world. Brilliant. Poor del. this scene is brilliant
Karma got del boy like it gets everybody
And shortly after this clip finishes comes one of the best lines ever in OFAH when Del says to Rodney " as Hamlet says to Macbeth in Midsummer nights dream, we've been done up like a couple 'o' kippers "😂😂😂😂😂😂
I have the box set of every episode. We watch these week in week out at tea time. Says a lot when you can watch an episode over and over and never get bored. Ever.

I’ve never understood why that was funny?
"You all look a like" Sullivan at his best.
Another line he ripped orf of the far superior Minder... Series 5 episode 2, What Makes Shammy Run. It's on YT...
Well, if you don't like it why are you watching this video.
I do like it. It's just not a patch on Minder, and Sullivan ripped off the latter royally for it. Still good though.
Okay, fair enough. My apologies. I must admit he did rip off another joke later on so it wasn't the only time.
Minder series 5 came out 1984, this episode of Only Fools (Cash and Curry) is from 1981. Is Sullivan a time traveller?
"You all look alike". Lol. Love it!
Priceless Line, especially as that what is usually said by English people when describing foreigners. This time the foreigner got in their first. !!
LOL!!! the slow motion fall in the begining is hilarious also
F.F Fibbing????? must have caught it from Arkright from 'Open All Hours' hahahahahahahahahahahahahaha Brilliant, cant stop laughing.

Maybe he was (looks away), Fibbin. looooooooooooool the way he said it you can only feel how pissed it made Del. Gawd I have watched this show since day one, yep I'm old lol and met a lot of the cast too luckily, most in margate during the jolly episode but no matter how many I watch and how many times, I will never get bored of it and carry on. must have seen every single episode a million times or more but still laugh at each like it's my first time lol.

Rodney: We want to see the real owner.

Love how Del and Rodney think he's some kind of clueless waiter who can barely speak English.
That's what most of the white people think today.
These Comedy clips sometimes are regarded as racist, when in fact they turn the tables on racism..Rising Damp was another example, Rigsby was an uneducated landlord and Phil, the black guy, Urbane, good with women and intelligent...
@@totalsubmition Oh sod off.
@@alanira2971 true though.
@@totalsubmition It isn't true, and is ironically a racist statement. As a general rule: if replacing "white" with "black" makes the statement one that you'd get into hot water for saying, it's a racist statement. Racism is racism, no matter who it's aimed at.

Those were the days, when you could walk into a restaurant smoking a cigar, and nobody would bat an eyelid.

2:54 Priceless.
When Del says "fibbin'" he looks a lot like Ronnie Barker in my opinion.
The owner of the restaurant is the bloke who played the 'punkah wallah' on It Ain't Half Hot Mum!
The smaller of the two other guys who conned him was the actor renu setna who played mr kittel the corner shopkeeper in in sickness and in health.
Very impressive comb over on

At that time in That episode of OFAH in 1981. £2000:00 was the equivalent of £7,716.90 in todays money in 2020. That would have been a big lose.
2.36. ‘I’ve just given him £2000 for this on the strength of him fibbing’.
It was Vimmel he gave the money to, not Rham.

It's karma serving Del right really for conning a load of people with his dodgy dealings. It's alright when he does it but he doesn't like it when it's done to him. My brother reminds me a lot of Del.
@steve gale Yes but we don't have much of a choice if we want to eat etc. Retailers are a necessary evil and you can't seem to do much without the help of the Internet these days. Del chooses to be a bit of a con artist while Rodney is a lot more moral. Remember when Del managed to sell a death trap of a car to that Australian guy? But if someone had sold a similar car to him or Rodney, he would have been round their house like a shot, demanding his money back with threats of knocking them out if they didn't!
@steve gale Ok, I challenge you to not go into a retail establishment or to not go on the Internet for a week or so in protest at them conning us all and see how much we need to rely on them? They can charge what they like cos they know they've got us all by the short and curlys! 😛
People are different.... we can choose either one path or another. We can choose to work and earn money legitimately or we could decide to scam people out of their savings etc over the Internet.
@steve gale Well I can't speak for other people but I wouldn't con people in the way that Del does. As for stealing off the Internet, people just naturally want something for nothing and the cost of living is so high in this country that people probably just see it as scratching something back.
@steve gale Jeez, living in Japan where it's 'better' doesn't half make you get on your high horse! I bet you've 'stolen' off the Internet in some way such as watching copyrighted videos on RUclips?
@steve gale Well you must have watched this video to comment on it.... I suspect that that is copyrighted and everyone (including ourselves) who has watched it has violated that, same as with most other videos on RUclips? It's hard to tell what you're allowed to officially watch on RUclips and who has ripped it off though.
£2000 was a LOT of money by 1981 standards, and today, it's more like >£5000.
Bear in mind everyone earned less in those days and the UK didn't have a 5-figure average salary until early-mid 1985.
That's around when I was born... must mean I'm why people are better off these days.. you're welcome :) ... correlation does mean causality right? :/
It's just over £7500 in toady's climate to be more precise. A hell of a lot of money back then!
I got nosebleed coming Rodney .. 😂😂😂😂😂 v don't get that sort of comedy anymore.....
