I started with Starling after a while ..account block for money being transferred in lots of questions from them took a week to get my money back so i moved to Revolut ....1 year no problems from them so far works great wen you go abroad
I opened a revolut account over a year ago didn't opt for the physical card. Opted for a virtual card so never got a card in the post and still opened the account. What i think is great about the virtual cards is there is a option with them where each time you use them the card details change and can only be seen on the app. So no chance of fraud .
@@BeCleverWithYourCash Starling has just brought them in recently. They've let me start using my account for certain card payments, given I opened my account on the 2nd of Feb and I still don't have my card (as of 12 Feb), and I'm not a very patient person. They're great for both privacy and security and virtual cards are linked to certain spaces, helping you sort your spending into categories, for example having a virtual card for monthly card payments, such as your mobile provider, netflix, or other things like that
I like Revolut but I have had issues with PayPal and couldn't buy food on a Ryanair flight. I am thinking of switching but looking to get a voucher for switching that is one or two hundred pounds. I like incentives. Wasn't great paying for a card but I can use it abroad.
Absolutely. I did use my Tandem credit card abroad most but sadly that stopped being a decent option earlier this year. So Starling, Curve and my trusty Halifax Clarity go with me (well, when we're allowed to go abroad again!)
@@BeCleverWithYourCash I'm sure Starling will introduce an abroad limit once they grow enough. I can't remember if it was Monzo or Revolut that had unlimited ATM withdrawals abroad, but they eventually capped it as it's a loss to them.
Curve's customer service is shite tho. Trying to sort out an issue with my Curve Card being rejected from Samsung Pay (Monzo do not and will not support it, Galaxy Watches will not support Google Pay only Samsung Pay) despite previously having been used on there (and wiped due to a watch update) I get in contact/reply to them and am ignored for hours or days until I tweet them and then they say they're looking into it then I reply and am ghosted again I've been having this Samsung Pay issue for almost a week and only now do they tell me they don't have a set timeframe to solve my issue. Why the hell did they take a week to do that?! Ordered a Stirling card can't wait til it comes. Bye bye Curve, bye Monzo (unless for backup) and hellooooo Stirling
Great video! Would be good if you could also do a review of the new Virgin Money Current Account (if you haven’t already) since it looks like their current account is a hybrid of a digital only bank and a high street bank!
@@BeCleverWithYourCash I opened a Starling account yesterday and it really was no problem. Even with my 'less than' favourable credit rating it all got completed in about an hour. Cheers.
Starling have a desktop option for their business customers and personal customers will shortly also have this option but Starling’s mobile banking will always be their priority. I have banked with them for nearly 2 years now and I am really happy with a bank for the first time in my life, and I’m no spring chicken 😃
They do! Only 0.05% I think but it's on all money inc what's in your current account compared to Monzo where you have to lock it in a savings pot. Starling is automatic
Thanks Michael. Yes sadly the channel decided not to carry on with the show as they couldn't repeat it, so it worked out quite expensive for them to make. Hopefully we'll do more together though when things are back to normal.
@@BeCleverWithYourCash Shame about the show, but me and the other half appreciate your stuff online, signed up for newsletter and cashback sites. Holding off on Club Lloyds until the new normal sets in though. Thanks again.
revolut only has the upper hand because of their 'shred able cards' whilst I'm using nationwide for pretty much everything these days, I have a monese account that is gathering dust though
You can move your account over to a new phone when you get a new one, and if you lose your phone, you can lock a potential thief out of your account by erasing data by calling them up, and you can deposit cheques either via the post or in app (depends) and cash at a post office or paypoint (also depends on each individual bank)

Nice video sterling are not recognized in United States just is not accepted lots of banks or virtual banks they don’t like it the new system because they can’t control it so well
Do you have to convert your pounds into the countrys currency when you are abroad before spending? or do you just tap the card and go like you would in the Uk?

Though if you do that, what would be the point having your salary go into your high street bank account? It seems to make the most sense to have your salary go into the account you use for the most day to day expenses and then transfer your money to an additional account you have with say a high street bank, perhaps for branch service, a back up or for a better interest rate but you can do whatever you want and I understand just doing that if that's what you're and you don't want to fuss with contacting your employer to change your details, though you could do a partial switch, which changes all of your payments going in and out but doesn't move your balance over and you keep your old account open
Great video thanks. My partner is from france and needs to open a Uk account. Was thinking about HSBC but then saw this. do you recommend any particular account for transferring money from a french account to the app based banks. Also is there any major difference in exchange rates between the apps abroad? Thanks!
Andy great review. Used starling to pay a euro bill was a bit worried worked fine no extra charges. Also andy wise is looking pretty good also they could easily become another bank. Although you now have to pay for a debit card. But they do a virtual card as well which is free
I got a Revolut account. Yes they have lot of good things but Revolut customer care is awful. If you want to wait more than an hour to get an answer then Revolut is for you. Always keep your high street bank account as your main account.
