Oleg Sendetsky is one of the finest cellists I've heard perform. I was lucky enough to see the Mariinsky Ballet perform Swan Lake and will never forget his solo...truly breathtaking.
"and on his return, received the news about Tchaikovsky's unexpected death on 6 November [O.S. 25 October] 1893. On the same day, he began work on his Trio élégiaque No. 2, just as Tchaikovsky had quickly written his Trio in A minor after Nikolai Rubinstein's death. The music's overwhelming aura of gloom reveals the depth and sincerity of his grief."
Having listened to the Borodin Trio perform this countless times, I find this particular version drags in spots. Nonetheless, the music is beautifully performed by this talented trio.
Wonderful piece but no one seems to have commented on the video ending before the end of the Trio, itself. Is this a new problem? What's up?? First we're assaulted with Ads and now you conclude music before it's even finished.
I don't agree that the "2s" are the best! 3rd piano concerto is the best ever written and I love the 1st and 4th as well! The 1st piano sonata is better to my ears than the 2nd. And it goes on... Everything he wrote is amazing! The sadness of this music reminds me of Stravinsky's description of him..."A 6 foot scowl." He was anguishingly sensitive to criticism...but who has or ever will write such melody and emotion?! Thank haven for Dr. Dahl who hypnotized him out of his sensitivity or we would not have such music?

That explains the pathos from the opening bars.
I absolutely love the piano passages at the 9 minutes in.
A powerful and lyrical performance of this beautiful elegy.
I didn't actually know that this piece existed until now... :D I thought that the G Minor was the only trio!!!!!
I can't remember ever hearing A Rachmoninov chamber piece before.
Such an amazing piece...
Beautiful. Would love to see this in person.
Ah, the Slavic sensitivity...! Thanks for this upload!
EVER NOTICE ALL OF THE STUFF BY RACHMANINOFF THAT HAS A "2" IN IT IS HIS BEST STUFF - PIANO CONCERTO 2 - TRIO 2 - PIANO SONATA 2 - SYMPHONY 2 ETC. !!!
Well, if you take for example Prokofiev, everything that has a 1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8,9 and so on in is his best stuff
It's like the first was just for practice. I need to check this out.
Beautiful
The Beaux Arts Trio performance is still my favorite
The musicians play off each other very well.
