So glad you guys enjoyed that! I should have mentioned though in my request that this song is part two of the Virtute saga. Plea From A Cat Named Virtute is part one. Her departure makes a bit more sense hearing part one first. I’ll preemptively explain part one…depressed alcoholic finds stray cat and brings it in, but can barely take care of himself so obviously doesn’t take great care of the cat either. Cat loves human anyway and tries to encourage him to get better. In part two, human unfortunately doesn’t get better and further neglects cat, so as much as cat loves human, cat decides to leave (half moon whispered “go”). Human realizes he messed up and wants the cat to come back so he drunkenly stumbles through the streets calling for it (for a while I heard you missing steps in the street and your anger pleading in an uncertain key) but it’s been so long the cat forgets it’s name and moves on (I can’t remember the sound you found for me). There are two other parts as well that wrap the story up. Part three: human goes to rehab, part four: human imagines Virtute forgiving him long after Virtute has gone and probably passed, and it helps him to forgive himself and overcome his depression and addiction.

it’s actually a five part saga:
      -confessions of a futon revolutionist
-plea from a cat named virtute
-virtute the cat explains her departure
      -17th street treatment centre
      -virtute at rest

Wow. Just got done watching the other reaction, and your songs made me cry. I'm glad you pointed out the cat didn't die in the song, but left, because I'm only part way through and am full of tears. My cat lost his ear tips as a stray, just like the cat in the song, and we saved him in the dead of winter. He's an old man now, and I am such a cat mama. I have no children, so he's my boy. Thank you for your song shares. Good choices. I'm as much as an animal nut as they come. Been vegan for a year and vegetarian since I was 15, and now I'm 40. So yeah, I really like animals. I'm definitely gonna check out more of their stuff.

The third song and final song is on John K Samson's solo album.

@@maruad7577 There’s technically a fourth song in the saga on Winter Wheat as well. 17th Street Treatment Centre is about Virtute’s former owner going to rehab.

To me, the closing lines “I can’t remember the sound that you found for me” mean Virtute has forgotten the name their owner gave them. It’s always been a heartbreaking song to listen to.

Virtute did explain his departure....It had something to do with the rain...

The cat tried to explain why it left... maybe it was the loamy dirt or the sounds of the alley... he remembers the owner stumbling drunk, yelling the cat's name. Now the cat is remembering these things while living in an abandoned building but it is mournful that it cannot remember the name his owner gave him.
