  • Back in February I went to lovely Wales once more and visited the Begwyn Hills, then popped over the border to Hay on Wye and ended up going up Llangattock escarpment. This video covers the first two of those and Llangattock is in Part 2 which you can see at • Vlog 35: Visiting Brec...
If you liked the video and wish to leave me a tip, thank you!

Hate it when an oncoming car takes full advantage of your courtesy and makes no move to pull over a bit itself.

Just come over from your Cruising the Cut channel. My mother was born and bred in Hay. The family goes back generations (all resident in Hay cemetery). I've noticed a photo of my grandfather's old shop is used on the information board inside the Cheese Market. The shop was on the end of the Market building and was pulled down in the early 1950s. He set up shop across the road, in what is now an estate agent. The bell of the town clock holds a special memory for me. During the 1970s the hippies named Hay 'Way-on-High'.

While I do enjoy the van videos as well as the cruising videos I can not stop flinching as vehicles come hurtling past on the wrong side of the road. I guess if I make a trip to GB I will need a chauffeur and a blindfold.

David these campervan videos are brilliant. I've played them all took me about 2 weeks and have subscribed. The "territorial " photographs and slightly sardonic descriptions are superb I've watched ( again on mass) Crusing the Cut 200 odd videos over a 3 week period and really prefer the Vandemonium videos as you climb mountains and hills. Visi0t towns and show where you've been. On Cruising Cut you arrive in say Braunston , Stokw Bourne or Oxford but have never seen it. You are so talented in filming and commentary as to be compulsive please take your camera and visit the places you go to. Graham.

Cheers - yes with the boat, the videos are all about the canals and the boats and I don't really do any exploring. With the campervan, the travelling is often just dull roads hence the end locations are what makes the video.

@@Vandemonium It may be boring for you, but I've never seen roads like that living in the US. I really appreciate the road shots, because it's something entirely new for me.
The only think I could offer up to from here to you is M-39 Southfeld Freeway (Detroit). Speed limit is 88 Km, but everyone does about 144. It's move or die with almost no shoulder to pull off. Picture Mad Max on meth.
This is why I appreciate your calm Wale's road interludes.

You should have a potter around Northern Powys, my home area. Lakes Vyrnwy and Clywedog are very nice. On the west coast the small towns of Aberdovey, Towyn, Barmouth and Harlech all have beautiful beaches that stretch for miles. Out of season visiting means plenty of free overnight parking in lay-bys .

My brother and I went through both Hay on Wye and Ross on Wye one year. I can't remember which one it was now, but Noele Gordon's house was there. The actress that famously was in the soap Crossroads. I remember many decades earlier, when I was only a young boy and Crossroads was very popular, that we had to go there with my gran, whilst on holiday in Gloucestershire, just because she lived there. No other reason and it was probably a 30 mile journey from where we stayed. My gran probably found it out from her Peoples Friend or Womans Own magazines. We didn't see her anywhere though. 😁

I so enjoy watching your vlog. It has a much gentler pace than what you usually see, you don't change the camera angle every second thus letting me see, and take in, what you see. I'd tip my hat if I was wearing one, but you get what I mean, don't you.
If you ever take your van to the northern parts of Europe (you won't be sailing aways after this Brexit mess), feel free to come and visit us in Hälsingland, free room and board at our house (built in the 18:th C, but then they tagged on bits here and there, so an architectural mess, but we like it).

I always love learning about twinned towns and cities, sisters, its always fun seeing which places consider themselves sisters. I wouldn't have guessed a quaint British town and Timbuktu, that is fantastic! Twin cities, or sisters, are cities with a social agreement and relationship between both cities. Incidentally, my city, Windsor, Ontario, is the twin city of twelve different cities, including Coventry, England.

Books from hay that is a first for me, here in NZ we get milk from hay then make cheese and butter with it. Still trying to get my head around getting cheese and butter from books, I guess there must be a way.
Great video bro and was nice of someone to mow that hill before you went up to video. 28c here today and looks like will be for a few more days or even weeks yet. All the very best

Well David, aftrr watching a number of these videos I can say that I prefer the boat stuff. My reaction to these videos is, that while interesting, I was cold watching them. Rain, rain and more rain. Cold and blustery is an apt description of Wales. Of course I live in South Florida and consider 20c sweater weather and at 10c I drag out my parka. But you are doing a great job. Thanks!

Well, obviously it's not meant to be taken literally; it refers to any manufacturers of dairy products.

Great vlog. It was very intersting to note that whilst councle signs are in both welsh and english, making them very hard to read quickly, every privatly owned sign was in english. Intersting that and somthing I had never noticed before watching your vlog

Just like the canals, except asphalt instead of water and no duckies or geesies.

You've got a nice camera mount. You just need to invest in a cheap polarised lens filter to eliminate the dash reflection. ✌🏼

Yes, or get the damn thing closer to the window, which I have been struggling with :-(

I thought the sign to Timbuktu was perfectly reasonable even if there is no twinning.

Looks like a Delkin mount. I used the triple and a single suction cup version outside the Corvette all the way though Arizona for my travel vlog. And that's on a carbon fiber and fiberglass body. None of the suction cups slipped at all as long as I wiped the area clean with a bit of water.
I have an old GoPro 4 with a waterproof cover and a USB wire though for power that I taped to the glass and trough the door.

I tried reading that parking sign, it took me almost 1 hour and then I had to move on or I would get a ticket! :D
