the cap of the YC Onion hood on my X100V is covered with felt material on the inside, looking very premium. unlike in the video when that lid has absolutely nothing inside
I'm not quick to judge names, but if you look closely you'll also find the words "noface" on the base of the handgrip in one of the shots, and also on the thumbgrip. It boggles my mind, but hey 🤷♂️ its sticks right?
Somebody has probably already said it here - but the little screw on the side of that extra hand grip is probably more of an aesthetic/non-functional touch to give it that old school look of a shutter release cable coming out of a camera - Like older 35 mm rangefinders and SLRs used to have.
I find extension grips are essential to all Fuji cameras just so to improve handling. Made a similar video on my X-T30. Can’t imagining using it without one 😅
I have the MEKE MK-X100v hand grip and love it. It fits along the entire bottom of the camera and you screw it in with a coin. The bottom plate has Arca Swiss grooves and also tripod screw holes for other manufacturers' base plates, like Manfrotto. It is around $38 at Amazon. .
I thought about getting a square hood but ended up getting the NiSi UHD UV for Fujifilm X100V. I like that you can still use the original lens cap (love the lid) on it. I love the stock look of the x100v and this one is probably the best option given that Fuji’s recommended adapter ring + filter is too expensive frankly.
I agree, ideally I would have liked the x100v to be completely wearhersealed without any additional add ons. Here's hoping that the next x100 camera fulfils that wish 🤞
YC Onion. what a name. 😀 Good that you are honest when you test such products. The products look well made but somehow not well thought out. The square lens hood looks pretty good though. I do not even have an x100v. 😆
I won't say no to accessories for my x100v, but I'm usually not biased in my opinions... Unless I manage to somehow own a Leica MP someday, then maybe a little bit of bias 🤤😉
@@JayRegular I bet if you had an MP there would be no accessories from an onion company on it. 😅 I think it's kind of lost nowadays that people do unbiased tests.
Haha depends on the brand really, don't let the name put you off, they are very nice people who don't mind me speaking my honest mind. Companies that seek genuine feedback are always the ones that improve the most over time ✌️👌
I find it weird that the grip and lens hood have the same finish/metal as the X100V to match, but the thumb grip is much different. Also I think they should use magnets on the lens hood cap!
Haha I do think it's still in the product review trialling phase, if yc onion reads through the coent section in this video I'm sure they will have the feedback they need to make adjustments and improvements. As for magnets, I that might be a pretty cool idea 👍
I can't say for sure as I do not own the x100f, but my feeling is it wouldn't match 100% since it was designed specifically for the 100v which has a different silver finish from that of the 100f
The handgrip needs some work to. It would look much better if it would cover all over the bottomplate and it would be more functional if mounting on a tripod would be possible.
I would agree, but for the grip at least I can sort of understand what they were trying to achieve? (Sort of?) Weight savings is the main thing that comes to mind
Thanks, Jay. The hood and grip are appealing, and I would probably get those if I had that camera. Been thinking about it, but decided on the 35 mm f2 lens for an X-T3 instead. It surely does look tempting to buy the X100V, though.
Since you have the silver Squarehood for the X100V, do you think the YC Onion version matches the colour of the silver X100V better? I have the silver Squarehood and it didn't perfectly match the silver on the X100V. I know they have a new version of it that claims to match it better but I can't tell from the stock photos. It's also a different shape which I don't like as much. Thank you.
I’m really tempted to get the handgrip, but I really wish it covered the whole bottom surface instead of just half. I need more grip when using the WCL adapter and I really want to find a silver one.
Hi Jay, when using the lens hood plus filter, can you still focus the minimum distance object without the lens drum knocking the filter? Thanks. Love your video regarding the X100V.
Nice and honest review. The hood and grip look good but you're right, some points have to be improved. My hands are not that big but big enough so that Fuji's cameras without grips are hard to hold and I always find myself squeezing them to hold them. Wanting smaller cameras make me regret my ergonomic slrs. But hey, nothing is perfect. Adding a grip and thumb grip isn't a good solution for me, it's better but doesn't resolve the problem fully. Man, I'm watching your "old" videos and saw that chipped screen and came back to this video to verify. It drives me nuts :-D what happened??? I'm saddened for you, I would lose my mind.
I have a similar issue with ergo on the x100v, I got a big palm, short fingers, so not a lot of gross feel perfect for me, the only thing I can relay on is either a neck strap or wrist strap for safety. Oh in regards to the chipped screen, it's actually the screen protector that's chipped ✌️ I had the camera dangling at the waist and as I was walking, my keys knocked against the side at the perfect angle. Will replace the screen protector one day... It's still holding up well
lens hood looks good - everything else - grip and thumb grip might be replaceable with a third party design/option that made a better design/fit. nice video
Opening the door is easy enough, but good luck trying to get the SD card out with the battery inside. The thumbrest does indeed look out of place, and in terms of price, it honestly is well built and the price is actually quite in line with most products of similar build quality on the market
Hi, Jay. Should the Lens Hood be 49mm? There are different sizes on the Web Site, so I'm guessing the 49mm is for a lens filter. Probably wrong about that as I'm clueless about these hoods. It looks impressive!
Is the adapter part of this kit supposed to keep spinning? Just got mine and to unscrew it from the hood I had to put one finger on the inside to unscrew it. Just worried I may have a defect or that once it’s on the lens I won’t be able to remove it
Hi will this lens hood fit with x100F ? Also is there any issue while aligning the lens hood ? Because I had to spend so much time aligning the Haoge lens hood .
I think it will be ok to fit on the x100F, though I can't guarantee the finish will match. no issue aligning the lens hood, it just takes a bit of time to get it straight, similar to the haoge, but once it is on I don't really need to take it off so yeh
The soft shutter release button is a terrible idea. Fuji does not recommend them and I found out the hard way. There is a collar inside that can be broken if the shutter button is bumped at a certain angle. My camera fell from the front seat of my car to the floor of the car and that collar was broken because of the soft shutter button. The cost to repair it is pretty expensive since the replaced the top of my x100v. Just a heads up.
Thanks for the heads up! Is it just isolated to the x100 cameras or every Fuji camera with a threaded shutter? I had an XT2 for a good 2 years and had a soft shutter on it the whole time with no issues... Maybe I'm just lucky 🤷♂️ karma might bite me one of these days haha 🤣
@@JayRegular I'm not really sure. The funny thing is I was reading a post about a guy warning people about them and I thought he was crazy lol. I kid you not, the very next week it happened to me smh. Luckily Fuji repaired it under warranty, but when I looked at what the cost would have been without the warranty, it was around $800 usd. I had an x100 and x100t and I never had an issue. I either got luck with those cameras or unlucky with the x100v lol.
Also if the plastic collar breaks, you can still use the camera, but you loose the ability to half press to focus. The shutter button just goes all the way down and the camera will focus and take a photo. It also makes the shutter button feel really weird when you press it.
I kind of understand their reasoning to keep the form factor and silhouette very clean and simple. You can always add things to make the camera more functional but you can't take things away to make a camera more beautiful as a product if it is already baked into the hardware already
They should have made the grip full width with a tripod mounting in it too! Looks stupid cut off like that. Thumb rest is rubbish. Hood looks good! Just sayin!🇦🇺👍😎
The design of that grip is terrible. It needs to extend the entire base of the camera and loose the allen wrench requirement. That thumbrest is even worse. It doesn't fit within the hot shoe, it hinders button access and the lack of a snug fit is troubling. I'd skip these products personally, there are too many other quality options.
I think for the grip it's a very specific use case scenario item that most people wouldn't settle on. And yes I do think the thumb grip needs a bit more refinement. I always give new products the benefit of the doubt, as thats what keeps the market competitive and interesting 😁 as long as companies take the feedback and make the changes then it's a step in the right direction
That lens cap is perfect. It fits squarely on the lens and the lens cap is perfect, cannot get knocked off accidentally.
That lens hood is very tempting! Totally agree about the lack of tripod mount. Was thinking exactly the same thing.
Yeh that's the biggest issue I had with it, but for specific use purposes, it's fine I guess
Great video man! I don’t even own this camera but love accessory videos.

The x100v is nice but you really have to commit to the 35mm focal length to want to buy this camera 😁
Good advice. Right now, just keeping it on hold until I have a better grasp with what I'm doing. :)

Yes the YC onion hood matches better with the x100v, the squarehood is nicer form factor but colour is indeed a bit off, only slightly though

how’s the lens hood affect the OEV? and does it affect flash?
How did you turn your camera shutter button change to red?
It's called a threaded soft shutter release, you can buy it on eBay or Amazon
What brand/type of filter did you use in this? Do you know if Tiffen bpm will fit properly?
the tiffen bpm can fit, confirmed

It should mention that the hood is for Fujifilm x100v, I don't think they say the thread sizes for hoods, only filters
Thanks, Jay. I checked again and the 49mm is for the adapter ring.

once you attach it to the camera, it shouldn't spin freely once tightened.
What lense filter do you have? Does it need to be specific? Or any lense filter can go with the lense hood!?!?
I use a black pro mist filter from tiffen and that seems to fit well. Otherwise I would look at filters that are marketed as slim
