You kind of talk like the transition to DAW based workflows was a sudden thing. As you would know, early DAW design is based in, and existed for a long time alongside "analogue" studios (DAT machines, sequencers etc). It feels like your description of this transition ignores the role engineers played in this slow transition toward heightened fidelity, and characterizes an era of engineers as generally less competent at something they were actively involved in.
I’m sorry but what? Bro, if someone comes into the studio drinking, smoking, and carrying. Yes! Carrying. A producer don’t know shit cause some random street punk comes into the studio with a gun making them uneasy. This is why rap is dead, none of you motherfuckers are serious! It’s not about business and hustling to get anywhere, the studio is just a big clubhouse to act stupid in and rhyme the same word 32 times on 16 bars. If you act that way, every producer that is worth shit isn’t gonna waste their time with that.
Even my teachers on my music production course said to me certificates don’t do shit unless you want to work more in TV commercials etc but even for that is not necessary bolo is right
The successful mixing engineers I know who work in the industry over thirty years are not active on any social media. Their work speaks for itself and their agenda is full, they don’t seek attention 😊
It was for him, in other other words: he was venting his pet peeve of °know it alls giving unsolicited advice in a condescending way° to his viewers, it only seem that he was making a video for a specific audience, but he was really taking to his platform to express his frustrations.
7:43 at SUNY Oneonta there is a TA class with two tiers, the second tier you are teaching other audio students and working through their sessions with them it was common to have sessions going every hour of every day with even the overnight booked out. I feel that a lot of people want to get angry about something without understanding what it is they’re angry about, I usually like Bolo but this is a weird take
What he is talking about is actually something that I have heard allot recently when having discussions with different "Managers" or "Small Biz Owners" etc. They all are looking to hire someone with 2 or 4 years of Experience, and no degree, then someone fresh out of school. Which trust me, has not always been the case.
Apart from the music shenanigans, i am happen to be an IT guy. And in IT we have a shit ton of certificates. My personal take on this - mostly this is something vendors are coming up with to generate an additional revenue - to get one you need to pay, the price could be anywhere between 100 and 1000 (in rare occasion higher) smackers. I saw a decent amount of folks with the certificates who knew absolutely nothing, because the just memorized the right answers to get their exam pass. For me certificate is more like an ego boost thing.
All these people with half knowledge trying to pretend an education is wasted time smh. I wanna see Bolo record an acoustic drum kit or a horn section, then we can talk.
This guy just keeps on going it stupid discussions. Theres no single truth, having a certification is always better, but doesn't automatically make you good, as well as not having makes you good or bad. Prejudice is just prejudice, wether you go one way or the orher. This guy probably needs some certification on understanding shit.
@@shanehiggins4983 they think hip hop is just lazy and looping a drum break over and over again, but love and adore drum n bass when its literally exactly that. White people have some interesting takes about music.
The big benefit of having a degree and/or certification, given you went through a decent program, is that you know how to efficiently troubleshoot a variety of issues that come about while recording and mixing based on technical knowledge of sound, electronics, and recording software. Past that, real world experience is everything. Obviously they can't put you through every possible scenario for every different genre in recording school. The best engineers are the ones that know the fundamentals but aren't afraid to stray from them when the recording could benefit from that. A lot of recording school graduates are just a bit too rigid and are scared to take chances because, well, that's how they were taught unfortunately.
Schooling in general teaches follow through and the ability to complete things easier, only because you're thrown into the fire with deadlines. But at the end of the day, those skills can be learned with out schooling
I went to full sail back when they were not recognized as an established entity (in the industry). This was back in 2010-2011 back when you were laughed at if you went to school for audio engineering. I graduated and left and went to work under many amazing engineers in nashville and kansas city. I kept that full sail stuff under wraps boy did i ever! Until recently, i told a few of my close artist friends i went to full sail. They were surprised but still continued to work with me. Getting a degree in audio engineering used to be a laughed at, someone make it make sense.
Where does this idea come from that having a certificate and studying "under a great master" in a studio is somehow mutually exclusive ? I'm sure there are lots of people who have done both. I feel like his whole rant is built on a strawman argument and/or a rather hypothetical situation.
Yall don’t get it. You must never been an engineer in a studio. I know exactly what he’s saying. I didn’t go to school but I paid for many hours of studio time to study the masters. Most new engineers can’t even doing a session with beat stems. Pay attention to the man lol
Bozo is way too whiny for a grown man. Considers himself a thought leader in this space (on what merit, I have no idea) but still has an intro stinger. Also, side note, but no less important: Barry John's never shuts the **** up. Not just about protools. That man has been crying in front of the camera about how wealthy he is and how much insane gear he has and how unfair the world is to him since he started the channel. And when I say cry, there were moments where it was literally cry. Filmed himself blubbering over internet music producers. Then edited it. Then uploaded it. It may still exist on his channel if you feel like punishing yourself with unfathomable levels of cringe. Fina Thought: BusyWorks is completely delusional, perhaps even diagnosed schizo in real life, but damn if he isn't infinitely more tolerable than Bozo. He is like ice picks in my ear canals. A very long winded way to have the "Experience Vs Education" conversation
These same 'music experts' were the ones paid by unison to say how great their shitty midi pack was. 🤣

Problem with experts is there is always one smarter or thinking they have an edge which may or may not be true depending on the results they have
So schools teach you how to handle a session where someone pulls a gun? Ive been missing out Ha!!

The "on what merit" question should be asked more often.
I think this is more about an inferior complex than anything.
Certificates might not make you an expert, but being a RUclipsr doesn't make you a "full time music producer" either. Just sayin'
Dude has produced platinum hits. He’s not merely a RUclipsr.
The amount of times he said "I've had people who have came to my studio" stressed me out.
