  • All of us have certain things in our lives which have hurt us in the past and/or are hurting us now. Our nature is to try to avoid these things-to run away from them and everything that reminds us of them. But running away only risks us getting twice as hurt when we face the same stimulus/stimuli again later on. There is a good reason for why exposure therapy is the preferred form of treatment for PTSD. Accordingly, I suggest that we expose ourselves to the things that trigger negative emotions within us, so that we may conquer these stimuli once and for all. Furthermore, exposure to what hurts can serve as a source of motivation; we can constructively use the anger that we experience to make our souls stronger and our lives more sensational. To support my argument, I have shared some personal examples as well as the poem, “To Youth After Pain,” by Margaret Widdemer. 🩶
