The park has a lot of other features when not in f1 mode. Golf course, football and cricket ovals, sports club buildings, the pit building is permanent, the track runs through a section that's normally a carpark for the Athletics centre and the swim centre where the major swim meets happen like Commonwealth Games. And it's a nice place for locals to relax and walk or ride.
It had 440,000 people over the four days this year.
Bust time in Melbourne with the Comedy festival on too.
Part of it is a golf course as well 😀. It really is a stunning place to have race.
Race on Sunday and drive to work on it on Monday.
You've got some comments about Albert Park below, and it was a big issue on siting the F1 there, without losing the Park. There's another aspect that is more interesting. Like you, I've run quite a few events over the years, and think for a minute about what this really means. No shoehorning teams, media, crowds into existing structures - it can all be sorted by reconfiguring the build. No problems with technology change, media needs, requiring re-running new cable over the old, or increased bandwidth or onsite studios requiring structural or infrastructural refits - it can all be sorted by reconfiguring the build. No patching or realigning existing tracks to cater for new surface, run off, safety barrier requirements - it can all be sorted by reconfiguring the build. You pretty much have a new venue every year! All of that is a sensational advantage for organisers providing a truly magnificent event, every year.
this sorta thing is normal for all "street" circuits around the world...in any motorsport category...just look at tracks like Long Beach, Nashville, St Petersburg and the new one coming to Chicago in the US they are all popups... the biggest popup would have to be Monaco F1 they do the whole country! (yeah ok its a tiny country! but still!)

Waste of money if you ask me. Should be The Mountain grand prix at Mt Panorama, that'll test the skill.
MtPanorama will never see a f1 race. It doesn't fit the circuit classification, the cars could never handle the dipper and it would break the drivers backs.
