    What happened? An issue with the engine bleed air system on the 757 and we see a guy jamming in the oxygen cart, think it was his fault?

    This video was awesome and glad all was well. I know it gets worry some when the slightest thing goes wrong. I am a First Officer on a MD-88 and that goes on a lot with our aircraft, however when we get the warning signs we don't hesitate to stop and fix the problem BEFORE we move on.😄

      Benjamin Mills awesome! I really want to become a pilot, I’m from Scotland and I’ve always from when I remember, and from when my parents told me how young I was when I loved planes and wanted to fly them, I was around 5. It’s very cliche I know. Is there any advice on what I can do to become a pilot, I would fly anything. I’m just about to turn 18. Thanks!

    • @RSSUX
      @RSSUX 6 лет назад

      The MD-88 is my all time favorite airliner! How much longer is your fleet going to remain airworthy? And when they’re retired, what else are you going to fly afterwards?

    • @sbreheny
      @sbreheny 5 лет назад

      @@jetsetjoeone675 I'm not 100% sure what you mean - bleed air (from the engines) is used for a lot more than just heating the wings (for de-icing) but is also used for heating and pressurizing the cabin and even in some aircraft it is used to help start the second engine when only one is running. I also don't think any commercial airliners are made without some means of heating the wing leading edges to prevent icing/shed ice.

    The door was shut and the crew was checking our seat belt installation. Then the captain announced that he did not like the sound of one of the engines and shut them down. He continued, that he would pilot this flight with us onboard on a replacement. Some 90+ minutes later, the captain announced that all was well, and all was well!

      Maybe because not all airlines opted for the Rolls Royce RB211s

    • @VoraciousAvgeek
      @VoraciousAvgeek 6 лет назад +13

      Nope, I already know the answer. United's 757 are old, and as planes get older the engines start wearing down and not producing as "pure" of a noise. Therefore United's RB211 on 757's dont roar as loudly as some of the newer 757's. (FYI, American, Icelandair, and United all have RB211's)

    Sorry about the mechanical problems you experienced on top of the late inbound arrival. Nice how United offered a refund of sorts. Looked at a database for that day and says you had tail number N17105. Thing is pretty old, built in 1994, but interior panels (and obviously paint) look newer so quite impressive looker for an old timer. But an old plane is gonna have problems.

    • @StarAllianceMan
      @StarAllianceMan  6 лет назад +4

      @ecoRfan 6 лет назад +2

      Yeah. I just flew on N41140 built early 2000. Second newest pmContinental 757-200. You would not guess it's pushing 18 years old unless you knew its age by that registration. And flew on N19117 in 2010... was 14 at the time but seemed about half that age.

      All the major airlines would like to replace those 757s at some point, but there isn't a suitable replacement for this jet available (757s ended production in 2003). Boeing tried to market the 737 as a replacement, but it lacks the performance these 757s can bring.

    At 16:24 we can see a plane that is too close to the active runway, any dangerous mishap during takeoff and that plane could have been a little bit too close.

      its not too close. The entire aircraft is past the hold short line.

    It wasn't "just" an "indicator light". There was a real engine problem. They make it sound like a light just came on for no reason.

      They do that so that passengers dont panic

      Sounds like it was an air duct issue, which is used with the oxygen circulation system in the cabin. More of an HVAC issue. But of course the engines generate the power and the air has to come from somewhere.

      I know, right? Taking off from SF and landing at Newark. At least it was dark out so people couldn't see how crappy Newark looks from the air.

      Depends on the crew. But usually no. This was probably a former Continental crew with seniority.
